If you are not patient almost any place that sells sewing supplies sells them. One question, I know Mennonite women are expected to be modest, especially in public. But do they have to be modest with their husbands in the privacy of their own bedroom? I have a relative who lives in Lancaster PA and he informs me that a Mennonite woman slapped his face when he attempted to flirt with her. Do married Mennonite women wear anything different from unmarried Mennonite women to let men know they are not available or does one simply ask? I know some cultures wear wedding bands or other symbols indicated marriage but I heard that Mennonite women do not wear wedding bands.
@peggyharden87935 жыл бұрын
Dear Nunya, there are many, many variations of Mennonite. I was raised Mennonite Brethren. Our core beliefs of the Bible are usually similar, but how that is lived out in the way we dress, talk with others, modes of transportation, etc. is very different. I would probably never slap someone’s face, as I see that as a violent act, but perhaps your relative’s flirtation was seen as abusive. Every part of the world, every religion, every community, and every family has their own cultures, and own responses. One type of Mennonite can never answer for all Mennonites anymore than one person with red hair can answer for all others with red hair!

Because it was wool it lasted me many years & we moved alot before we settled, so it was always complemented every time I wore it. I hated giving it away But I had plenty of clothes & my sister had lost weight & it looked good on her. To show how much this outfit is loved my oldest niece now owns it after the loss of her mom. I began to sew my clothes 3 years ago and I became addicted. It's money saving and you have clothes which really fit you. Buying a sewing machine was the best investment I made. I don't make my own patterns, but I bought some versatile ones (in PDF it's cheaper) , who allow me to sew t-shirts, sweatshirts, blouses, dresses, with short or long sleeves in wooven fabrics and in jersey. My next challenge is to sew a pair of jeans. As I've been knitting my socks, jumpers, scarves, hats and mittens for years, I only buy coats, underwear and until now jeans from the shops. I love the dress you made in your video but my favorite is the dusty pink one, especially teamed with the white cardi. It's gorgeeous.

I am a reasonably experienced seamstress and I love creating clothing from historical patterns in particular. I loved your video! I think anyone learning how to use a sewing machine for the first time should steer away from fitted patterns for a while and have fun with your style of dress. I started just like this, with forgiving, slightly stretchy fabrics and synched waistlines. Not only did i get to concentrate on learning how to use the machine without stressing out over how to figure out the patterns, it taught me a lot about how different fabrics behave and how to choose them for a certain look. Which thread and needles to use, which settings on the macine, etc. Not to mention learning from all my beginner's mistakes like broken needles, stretched seams, bottom thread looping into a bird's nest that gets tangled around the bobbincase... Starting with these kinds of dresses (I also made simple loose tunics with a keyhole neckline, with four seams like your dress from thin, non-stretchy cotton or linen) gets all those sewing mistakes out of the way before trying to sew from patterns. I hope that people who are just starting to learn how to sew, and perhaps are daunted by all the technicalities of sewing, stumble across this video and get motivated to try this. It's a great place to start. Leave those collars, pockets and attached sleeves for later, start with this!

Modesty is not just what you wear, it’s how you speak as well. If it’s in the heart it’ll be visible in all areas aside from clothes, such as personality, etc...

So true, Had a little trouble listening to this video

Whats wrong with how she speaks..she is not a robot, she is allowed to have personality. This underhanded judgemental comment shows lack of humility, modesty, and common sense.

@@glendau8688 Why did you have trouble listening to her? Not hating, just interested!
@Laggin65 жыл бұрын
@@BooThing14 You should not make an assumption without understanding. I don't understand Glenda U's comment either, but it could be something such as her being hard of hearing and having difficulty hearing certain tones, or perhaps the sound coming through her computer was full of static, for some reason. Her comment isn't necessarily meant to be rude. Personally, I know several people who have loss of hearing and they all have difficulty hearing me because of the tone of my voice. It just happens to be one they can't hear easily.
@ivyhernandez25265 жыл бұрын
@@Laggin6 It might of been the echo in the room...I have hearing loss, and that is what made it just a little harder to listen to her for the entire video because hearing aids amplify those higher frequencies.

Oh my gosh, ur channel 😍😍😍😍😍 I'm in love!!! I'm mot a Mennonite, but I have worn nothing but dresses for well over 20 years.... I really get treated and looked at differently because of the way I dress. I know it's not popular these days, but I really like being treated like a lady. Your dresses are so cute and really look easy to work in as well ... th ty ty for this ♡♡♡♡
@tamarakoehn63055 жыл бұрын
I agree! I like to be treated like a lady, and it seems like if you are wearing a dress, people will always hold the doors for you and be polite. That is something I wish every woman could experience. I make sure to hold doors for the ladies who aren't wearing dresses so they can feel a little of that voluntary care and kindness. Throw it around like confetti every chance you get.

NewEarthWellness : I would love to wear a regular length dress but I have really bad scars all over my legs that look horrible so I wear pants a lot. I do wear long skirts or a long sun dress from time to time but sundress’s are usually sleeveless which I don’t like. But I agree, wearing dresses makes me feel very lady like.

@@g-bgcg i love to wear maxi dresses but find that the top sections are not modest enough for me as a catholic so i have lots of tshirts in lots of colours mainly white and black to be honest and i wear them under the sundress style tops i call them my modesty tops !!! Modesty tops can be worn with spagetti style tops also to transform them into modest yet pretty up to date outfits !!! In England where i live clothing is generally VERY IMMODIST i wish i could sew as well as Megan so that i could create my own outfits maybe i will give it a try however i bet it isn't as easy as Megan makes it look 😁🤣😂🇬🇧

@pollyjetix20275 жыл бұрын
I love the bows on the sleeves! Another very fashionable option would be a 6"wide strip gathered to make a ruffle. I also love the look of the top-of-the-bodice accent, like those stripes or the floral. That is something I definitely will use, b/c I am a lot smaller up top than below the waist. It would be a good way to draw the eye up and away from my "problem area!"

Well, I am out of the baby stage, I am a great grandparent and just want simple but cute, easy fit dresses that require nothing for upkeep. No dry cleaning, just wash and go. You have saved me a lot of frustration and well, FRUSTRATION! Besides that, what a excellent teacher and so easy to follow. Thank you so much. I loved sewing years ago, you never get too old to try something new but the EASY got to me. PS, I have had my Gingers or however you spell the brand for over 50 years and they are still like new. ;)

I hope you did start sewing. This is the very best idea and such a clear video on how to do it! One thing she didn't mention (or I missed it) is that you need the stretch of the material to go side to side and not top to bottom on this dress. She might not have mentioned it because many materials today stretch both directions. But even then, it is best to have the stretchiest direction be across your body.

Hi TheKapuahi I live in New Zealand and I'd never heard anything about Mennonites either. It's really nice learning about different beliefs and in a sense different ways of living. People often tell me my beliefs are old fashioned but I dont think a bit more modesty and having community minded people is a bad thing. I wonder if there is a mennonite community in Australia or New Zealand. Xx
