Nicely done! Just made my first homemade battle mat about a month ago as well! Gonna do another in a different setting soon, Im curious if you're worried about your edge fraying? Inhavent finised my edges yet. I just left them an inch or 2 long. I was thinking of folding over and sewing but haven't done it yet, but they might not fray since the caulking is embedded in the cloth. Thanks for the video! 🤙👍🐙

Thanks for the great feedback! Since building and playing with it weekly and rolling the mat up after each game, I’ve not experienced any frayed edges, most likely due to the caulking and you mentioned. Sewing the edges is a great idea to give your edges that extra layer of protection though. Good luck with the next build 👍🏻

Could you make these back to back? I.e before you cut the size then one role would have 2 maps on it.

Thanks for the question! If you’re using a poly-backed canvas, you’ll struggle to keep the caulking stuck to the ‘poly-side’ as it won’t have any of the fibres to cling onto, but my work well for a non-poly canvas. Just make sure to have a protective layer on your work surface to avoid any leeching. Hope this helps!

Great video, thanks for sharing. Def going to try this. You had some creases that didn't look like they came from the packing of the sheet. What do you think caused this.
@ForTheRoll2 ай бұрын
Thank you 👍🏻 I believe extra creases were simply down to not pulling the canvas tight enough initially and then become more apparent when scraping the excess chaulk. When I do it again, I’ll make sure to take more time when securing it down. Hope this helps with your attempt 👍🏻

Looks great! How heavy does the battlemat end up being once dried ?
@ForTheRoll2 ай бұрын
It’s a little heavier than a neoprene mat. Would also recommend a strong cardboard tube to wrap the mat around when storing in order to keep the shape 👍🏻

@@ForTheRoll that’s cool. I was thinking of cutting some magnetic sheets into strips. To run along the short edges that don’t get rolled, and applying a strip on tin onto the chipboard /MDF board to help keep it held down during gameplay, or would that be a bit overkill?
@ForTheRoll2 ай бұрын
Great idea, not sure it’ll be needed though. My mat seemed to fall flat after a few seconds of rest. But still a great idea if you do find that the short edges are raising up.
