You are a genius. Last night I was desperate for a root quick fix. I usually have my hair done at the salon and pay a pretty penny each time. This was my first ever attempt at doing my own hair and your way is fool proof! My hair looks amazing and the colour is better than what my hairdresser does. It cost me 1/20 of what the salon charges!

Silvia, I love your videos! I had been paying way too much to leave the salon feeling like I didn't really get what I wanted since going blonde. After the last bad appointment with hair that was way too yellow I started watching your videos. I was able to put some low lights in and tone the yellow out at home for a fraction of the cost that my stylist would have charged. Well, now it was time for roots and I was very scared to use the higher volume developer but after watching this video I did it and it is FABULOUS! No orange/yellow mess! Didn't need to tone and it looks way more natural than what my stylist had been doing. Thank you so much for all your videos!

Its just to soften the root everyone. The original root was darker.she's saying she does this to root color then does the highlights to get her overall color.

You are beautiful! Great technique for a little in between salon visits touchup. But as a professional I would suggest to any viewers that you try to understand this concept. In layman's terms we hair stylists say that 'hair color does not lift hair color' meaning the 12N being using is not intend to significantly lift natural or previously colored hair. The end result we see here looks a bit brassy and not as cool toned as most viewers would probably like to see. So instead of using a hair color cream, I suggest you look for an extra high lift cream that tones the hair as well. Many brands have their own versions (I prefer Redkens Color Fusion Extra Lift series), and most come in tones such as V (violet tone) , N (neutral tone) , B (blue tone) , T or S (titanium or silver tone). Mix this type of cream with 20 - 40 volume developer depending on your natural level and process it for 30-90 minutes in open air or covered with a plastic cap, depending on how much your scalp can take. I know the timing sounds crazy, but all professionals know that some rules can be broken. In the case of having a dark natural hair color and trying to get a lighter cooler result this extended timing is necessary. Best of luck!!!

I tried this, but I am using 12AA - thanks for demonstrating your technique. I am a natural blonde whose color seems to have faded! I get brassy quickly. I had colored my hair about ten years ago and use Loreal lightest ash blonde and found the ends became dry and tended toward blue. I have been successful using the Wella products and am now adding the violet toner to the mix of color with developer. It seems to work!

It's so refreshing how you're not all into yourself. You call it shy. I call it refreshing. Especially since you're so pretty. I love the ymms, and looking away. Here's a KZbin tip. Do the same videos over and over again; we don't learn very fast, and miss things you said, but we might catch it again in the next video. Like even though I watched all of them, I loved the one on developers only, which was a total repetition. You could do one on semi permanent vs permanent. Lots of us are gray so there's that. You could do one on just colors. What's Wella N or W, for example? And I'm glad you share your color, since it looks so much darker on camera than the color looks on me, so it gives me perspective. Thanks a million!

This worked amazingly well. I wanted a change and thought about just coloring my face framing blonde pieces dark then saw this tutorial. It made my root hair color a nice cool ash blonde, a bit darker then I expected but it blends well. I went with Ash Blonde, HiColor Hilights from Loreal and the tone looks fantastic, no brassy/orange like I would have had with my wella bleach. It's now a great toned down blonde for fall, so I'm happy! To mix double, use a food scale. My really light blonde got a little color on it and went a little blue (she mentions that this can happen and to be careful) so I stress not getting ham with brush, which requires lots of practice. Great tutorial!

I used this method with one bottle of wella 12N high lift and 2 parts 30 developer. My roots are amazing!! They are a cool blonde color. I only left on for 20 minutes and that was plenty long enough. I started with a root color of a 5 brown which is dark. I am so happy with this it is all I will do from now on. Thank you so much I love your videos!!!!

Lupita G My color is dark brown. Don't leave on very long or it goes to next level which is more towards blonde. This just makes the brown easier to deal with. I was just looking for a lighter brown. I left it on 20 minutes.

Cynthia, i did this exact method...it turned out super bright....I feel like a total blonde :) I might need to put some dark low lights in next processing. My under part of my hair is my natural dark brown...so there's some contrast that looks nice. Thanks for your advice. I left it closer to 30 min. Next time I'll try 20-25. With 30 developer it did it's brightening that's for sure. I have thick fine hair. Guess it lightens pretty quickly.

Hi Cynthia! I'm surprised and shocked that this worked for you! I'm very tempted to try myself but wonder if it's worth the hassle. I do my bleach regrowth around every 8-10 weeks. My natural level is around a 4 (guessing!) and I always was told by hairdressers that high lifts will not work for me. Roughly what level would it take me too in your opinion? Not sure whether to try or not and if this is actually drying for your hair anyway. Joan

This worked perfectly for me. I did leave it on for 20 minutes. I would say I'm a level 6/7 naturally. It did come out perfectly toned and blended well into my already lightened hair. This is definitely becoming part of my hair lightening regime. Thanks! 😉

This worked great! Roots were level 4 and this lifted to 8-9. I used One 'N Only Argan Oil Hair Color Hi-Lift Neutral Blonde (11HLN) . A pro handled the initial lightening from a dark red-purple to my current light blonde with low-lights. It took 3 visits and some major $$$. The bleach did a number on my hair even with her being very careful, so I'm hesitant to go that route just yet. This was much kinder and I love that it's so reasonable.

I'd use the CHI developer for the CHI product. My salon uses Goldwell (I recognized the developer bottle) and it's usually smarter to use the dedicated brand with the color. For instance, Goldwell just reformulated the colors and developers for better conditioning, but with other color lines, it may render the color impossible to develop. Just some info! You're hair is gorgeous btw.

OK - I typed the below part before getting to my question, which is long so my question is, since you now use the high-lift root touch up, what is your schedule & formulas for keeping your hair blonde now? Have they changed or just the root touch up technique? I've watched all your hair dying videos, several times each. Studying them. I'm tired of spending too much money on getting my hair done. And then I'm not completely happy with it. If I was it wouldn't be so bad. I like it at first, but then it goes brassy. At least that's what I learned from your videos. A few months ago I did break down and buy a box kit. Ended up orange. Called the company, they told me to get another kit and do it again, then tone it. They told me what to buy and how to mix it to tone it. It was fine, but what I should have done was tone it again or get a really good blue shampoo like you suggested. Anyway, I love your color and from all you've said I think we're close to the same natural color. You maybe a bit lighter, but I think I've learned enough from you that I can adjust. I've watched several video's on how I went from Brown to Blonde, and some of the video's are way out there. I've seen orange hair and they thought it was blonde. Or it's someone with no idea what they are doing, fumbling around and get lucky and reach blonde, but after they have destroyed their hair. You video's are very well done, very professional and the icing on the cake is you have cosmetology schooling. Thank you. I will be trying this and I'll let you know how I make out. If it works, I'll owe you one.

My hair is naturally a level 7 and I used high lift color (Loreal Mega Blondes) to get the result you see in my picture. During my last process, I used highlighting bleach safe for the scalp to fix my roots instead of the high lift color because I felt it wasn't lightening as much as I wanted. I now want to add more dimension to my color (it is now just allover blonde - no highlights - my hair lightens more in some places than others so it looks like I put highlights in but its just a one process color job.. - anyways I am afraid of going too dark/ruining my color. The technique you used in this video would most likely make my hair look 2 different colors (horizontally) right at the root line. Your color is perfect for your complexion and I was just looking for some tips specific to my pale and prone to redness skin in terms of a more dimensional color. I apologize for the long post but would love your feedback!

Balayage VS High-Lift roots confused Hi Silvia, first I know you most hear this a lot, but let me start by saying thank you, for taking time to give us the woman out there advice on how to look and feel better about ourselves. Silvia my level color is 3-4 and I did some highlights and they came out pretty good, that was for Christmas but when I got home I saw that my roots were like kind of orangey / brassy so I saw your video and I went running to Sally and bought the T12 toner and I was super happy to see that that ugly brassy color was tone down almost 70 % . Silvia the thing now is that it is going to be almost a month and I know that in the next week or so I need to re touch my roots, years ago I used to do it with L'Oreal Excellence hair color 9 light ash blonde. But now I hear a lot people saying that if I use 20 V I don't need to use the Ash but others tell me the Ash blocks that brassy / cooper color and now watching your videos I see you do Balayage and high lift in both video you did the roots. I wanted to know if its true that Ash kill the orange/brassy color? and from this 4 colors which one do you recommend, 8A- light ash blonde, 8n- light blonde, 9A- very light ash blonde or 9N very light blonde? the thing is that if I go for a medium blonde then its going to come out to dark and I want to go lighter. Please any advice I will greatly appreciated. Is that here in Miami to do a touch up is like $35.00 and that's with out blow dry or anything and at this moment I can't. Sorry for the bother and thank you again . In your messages I sent you a video of more or less the color of my hair .

Please help me!! My hair is naturally dark blonde I'd say a level 6-7. It gets darker as I get older. I was under the impression from my stylists that they HAVE to use bleach to lift my hair when highlighting because my base is just too dark. Also, I have tried a high-lift color on my roots before (at a salon) and it definitely did not lift high enough and left me with very warm almost orangey roots. So, I assumed that high-lift was completely out of the question for me. Now I watch your video, and I hear you talking about how high-lift is a better result than just bleach... Are some people just too dark for high-lift? I love your color, and I am BEYOND frustrated with never finding a good stylist who knows what they're doing and can never seem to give me what I want... Can you please give me some advice? I am so tired of going to countless stylists only to have them damage my hair more and not even give me the results I am wanting!!

I have a level 6.5/7 hair, and this turned my roots orange :( using 30vol. I followed all packaging directions. I noticed they turned orange right away as it started lifting, and stayed there. I am going in to the salon for color correction now. I feel like I ruined my beautiful blonde highlighted hair trying to do something that should have been left to a salon. Ironically this was meant to extend my trips between the salon, but his has made it necessary for me go in sooner than my typical appointment. At home color is definitely not for everyone. Count the costs!

So this is a replacement for hair color?... And it's better because it automatically leaves you without brassiness? And will it work for level 5/6 brown roots that I want to match (or get close) to my ends which are like level 9-10 if I use 12A? My ends are a little silvery after toning with purple shampoo and I want that silvery blonde to start higher up Thank you so much your videos are so helpful!!🙌🏼 🙏🏼👏🏼

Hey Silvia! Quick question... So I have blonde hair at the moment maybe a couple levels darker than yours but I just did a root lift using 8N like you used to do to lift my regrowth a tad. Do you think it'd be okay if in a few weeks I do the highlift? Or will the highlift not lift my natural color (level4) and the 8n color to match my level 8 blonde hair? I just want to avoid two different color roots lol. Love your videos btw!! You were my inspiration to go blonde!

Hello, is it possible to just use this method every few weeks along with the occasional toner and avoiding getting highlights done at a salon at all? I'm pretty fair already but have the occasional bleach and tint highlights done.. I was hoping I could just use this process alone and perhaps get highlights just a couple of times a year rather than every 13 weeks. Thanks for your time :) Lisa x

Hi. Really excited to have come across your videos. We have similar hair and I'm about to follow your routine. After watching all of your videos over and over, I have three questions. 1) do u high lift roots and then bleach highlights on the same day? 2) following highlights are you toning with wella over the 12n too? 3) I've made the mistake of bleaching my highlights from root to end so that hair is very porous. Do you think low lighting with the 8n will be okay? Can I do anything to prep the middle section? Thanks for any help.

Hi beautiful, I did my first set of highlights last Saturday, to later have your full color. Anyways, my questions are the following: I have a lot of gray hair, should I be doing high lift instead of coloring on my roots? If I could do high lift instead of coloring, would I still leave it 15 min? sorry but what is the difference between high lifting and hair dye color? Last but not least, what is the purpose of high lifting when you do your next set of highlights? Is it for bleaching to react faster and have less brassiness? Thank you so much!

Hey Silvia. I am a platinum level 10 blonde. I want to add some lowlight but like you said in the "DIY from Brunette to Blonde & how I maintain my color " video theres no point in putting dark over blonde and having it fade. I was going to have my roots grow out and start the routine you started to get some natural lowlights in. (the 8n on roots then 4 weeks later 8n on roots and highlight roots, etc) but wont it look like I have cheetah print on my roots with the blonde? also, in this video "DIY highlift) you said you used a 9n before, not a 8n. so im curious what exactly you were using in the DIY from brunette to blonde video. cuz I loovveeee your color. I like it better with the color than the highlift, my personal opinion. pleaseeeee answer my question cuz ive been dying to know! if it was the 8n or 9n and if it looks like cheetah print at first? and if it does is there anyway to get around that. thanks!

If you are using hi lift on dark hair even if you choose the colour with ash your hair will still throw alot of orange and red regardless of the proxside you choose . And you will still need to tone your hair . Alot of people think hi lift is not as damaging as bleach . It's not the product that damages the hair it's the oxidation process that damages the hair and both products are equally damaging.

hey silvia i'm from switzerland and i love your hair colour. i'm a level 5 and i coloured my hair three times with wella 8/1 and used a 20 vol developer. now i'm something between 7 and 8 maybe a 7/3 but it's very gold (for me orange but my hairdresser says gold). what would you recommend me? do a lot of highlights? or a highlift like in this video but on my entire hair not just on the roots? i'd be so happy if you could answer me. it would really help me. thank you! :)

My hair is a few shades darker than yours, with a lot more golden yellow tones. My roots have grown and they are a dark brown color, i did not want to bleach my roots, and i want to try this method of yours, but i also want to lift all of my hair to a platinum blonde with purple/blue undertones. Is it okay to do my roots first and then apply the rest to my hair?

I know this is comment is old, but for anyone looking for the answer to the question: foil the growth in thin slices as close to the scalp as you can to incubate the lighteneer, process for the full time, then apply bleach to the scalp, again processing for the full time. You can wipe the bleach in between these two steps if you wish but it's not necessary as the bleach will dry in the open air. Go for a 2nd or 3rd process if needed, depending on your banding situation. Make sure you criss-cross section the hair as you apply - i.e. if you section horizontally, go back in and section vertically to resaturate and ensure all your hair is covered in bleack. Process for the full time, per manufacturer instructions but if in doubt (rinse - leave alone - reapply when your scalp is ready) or just go to a salon. Happy lightening!

@@JaneSmith0709 No, it should not, especially since when you do this on yourself you can't get your slices thin enough and you always have about 1 cm of dark hair sticking out of the foil. Of course, it depends entirely how high you want to lift AND you need to tone at your level.

@@JaneSmith0709 being mindful of elapsed time. Regardless of the product you're using to lift your hair, you *are* supposed to check it often. And, again, you're not going to be able to get the foil all that close to your scalp on yourself.

Your videos have been very helpful! i attempted a highlight retouch and was happy with the results......on the pieces I got right. The very front however got totally ruined, I used a horrible brand of foil that had the see through part and it kept coming undone and sliding down my hair, spreading the bleach everywhere. Beyond frusterated I rinsed it out. I had previous highlights and wanted more all over blonde anyways. The problem is, there are some sections in the very front that have a line of brown still, and the hair in the front is still very much orangey/darker yellow. The other pieces are the nice light ashy blonde I wanted. How do I fix all the spread out splotches and orange highlights WITHOUT overbleaching the already very pale blonde highlights? I'm very afraid of overprocessing the blonde sections to where they pretty much disenegrate, as I've had a pricey salon do to me before ? HELP!!!

I will need help! I am a new blonde! After 35 yrs of being a redhead (naturally medium brown) my daughter bleached and colored my hair last weekend. I've already had to get rid of the "baby duck" yellow tones with wells T14 that I put on for 15 minutes. But...since my daughter lives 300 miles away...how do I touch up my virgin medium brown (and 25% gray roots) without bleaching them every time? Can I use a dye with a 30 or 40 developer?

Hi!!! My natural hair color is about a 2 or 3 and my hair is about a 10. The hairdresser I have been using has ruined my hair pretty much and I want to go back to doing my own hair. I love you Balayage dark root video and this video. What would you recommend for me blending my dark roots into the blonde Balayage style? I'd like my roots to be an 8-5 4 at tea darkest, and my overall blonde to be anywhere from a 9-6. Just wanting something that allows me to be a blonde with roots blended in Balayage style so it appears natural and my roots don't look so drastic as it grows. Needing something that I can do and not use bleach and give my hair time to repair itself. I also went to cosmetologist school so I have a good amount of experience. My license is expired though. I love the tones of your blonde and dark blondes in your hair in this video and that is what I am wanting as well. I know you are super busy but any advice would be so so great . I just need advice. You can also email me at sarah_ashley2222@yahoo.com if that's easier to respond to. Thank you so so much.

Is your natural color darker than hers? Usually if youre a level 5 or darker, a highlift will usually pull brassy and i would recommend lightener instead. But everyones hair is different, a formula for one person could be completely different for another based on if you have cool or warm undertones in your hair or how porous your hair is, etc.
