in this test just an extra 1S 450 mAh battery on top of the Raspberry Pi, but I'll tear down an Anafi battery and connect the circuit directly to save some weight.

Do you know how I could just stream the output simply to an LCD and then place a reticle on the screen? Or just the right direction to find that out?

not streaming but via VTX like in this video and receiving on a mobile VRX screen like a Skyzone M5 (expensive). But there are also much cheaper screens available.

Great work! Will the 2.4 ~ 5ghz signals be interrupted by the Drones running the same frequency?

there will be interferences on the same frequency band, but you could try higher or lower channels on the FPV VTX, i.e. from R1 to R8 (Raceband) to minimize the interferences.

Awesome, about to do this with my Mavic 3 but mount the camera on the gimbal (it's more than strong enough) so it's rock steady... will be running a 1w VTX 5.8 and 2.4 on the drone. Will post a vid if I get time!

The PI's have a component out pin. The VTX is directly connected to component out.

Can this be done on devices other than Raspberry Pi? The availability of Raspberry Pi is somewhat tragic, considering there are now many alternatives with greater performance and similar sizes.

yes, anything that runs Linux. The install script probably works on different Debian targets too.

What would be my options if I need to transmit (possible digital) higher quality video data, like the HDMI out of the SBC, or a stream from a HD USB or otherwise connected (MIPI-CSI, serial, LVDS) camera?

OpenHD can transmit digital data, but it doesn't make much sense because of the low resolution of thermal cameras. The only advantage would be an encrypted signal (if OpenHD can encrypt the stream).
