Hey guys and welcome back to another video on the conversion. After changing my mind constantly I finally decided that laminate flooring would be the best option for the car/van. DIY flooring is defiantly something new to me but it was great to try and get the basics of 'woodworking' and was very enjoyable once I got it all in place and looking nice.
How do you think the flooring looks? I was very happy with it even tho it took me a few days to get it down! One thing to bare in mind is that with this flooring you need to make sure that your floor is 99% flat and even otherwise it wont work so well.

Silicone caulking. Get a caulking tool- little plastic slab with angled edges and a little cheap hand garden spray bottle. Apply silicone, spray with water with a tiny bit of washing up liquid. Use angled tool to drag along. Wipe excess onto paper towels. Neat finish and not stuck to your fingers.

just one problem. that last bit of flooring covered the access cover to lower the spare wheel from underneath so a puncture means pulling the glued floor up :)

Great job Will. Floor looks great and silicon can be tricky. Have a roll of paper towel handy. When you make your bed I would put some storage underneath it if possible. You’ll need to use every inch of that van.

Nicely done but just a thought, laminate expands and shrinks so it shouldn't be siliconed which is why it gets tucked under the skirting or beading is added at the sides nor glued down :)

Did you start right away or first let those boards acclimatise in the car? They can react to moisture quite a bit. If you do a whole room with them you need to leave an inch or so free all around. In your van I would at least keep 5 mm free on all sides. Oh well, by the time I see this, it is already in. Why did you glue it in place? Wouldn’t it just stay in place without?

Looks Great!!! Such a good idea to cover over that carpet in favor of a surface that is easy to clean and also to easily slide your gear in and out. The trim strips on the 2 sides and in the rear areas is definitely a good idea to help keep crumbs and debris out. You may want to put them up front ahead of the first plank too (again to block out debris). Just a tip - and you've probably already sorted it but since the silicone is so messy you may want to try a thin flexible molding strip such as you would normally install in a shower/bathtub or possibly weather stripping. It will not be as "pretty", but sealing the area from debris is most important, as you're already on the track of. I'm constantly re-purposing materials myself, so I can't wait to see what's next!
