I am new to distressing wood. I have watched countless videos that did not have what I wanted. Although not exactly what I am looking for, this lady has shown me techniques and ideas that I can use for my specific projects. Thank you!

Love it! By starting with white paint and using the stain on top you show how you can make any piece look like an old beautiful antique. I have an eighties cheap armoire that I’ve chalk painted white and is totally dull and boring that I’m going to do this to. Thanks so much for the great tutorials! Looking forward to more. 😊

Big fuck'n word asshole! Lol...That is what I sometimes say to myself after using a, "High Vocabularic Word." Normally though, the word I use goes with the rest of the sentence. Maybe I'm wrong here. Maybe I just haven't been awake long enough and haven't taken enough narcotic pain killers for my brain to function properly. Long story short, I don't think that, "intuitive," is the word you were looking for. Perhaps, "Innovative," would be more appropriate. Just trying to help. That's what I do. God bless and keep up the great grammar.

I’d love to try this on a coffee table. I’m not sure how I would do that though since the stain would raise the grain and require more sanding killing the effect you achieved on that door. Looks awesome
@frankcanales22704 жыл бұрын
Use an oil based stain. I've never had a problem with the grain raising. It only happened when I used a water based stain (grabbed by accident).

Love this. I don't know how the stain made the wood grain come through when it was painted white to begin with? Looking at it again maybe it wasn't painted white. But still how did the stain get the wood grain to come through the turquoise color?

Hi, I've never painted any furniture before and watched your video with inspiration , you really are very good, I like how artistic your work is, not just a coat of paint then a rub off, . Thank you for sharing your experience, .im looking at getting a few bits of wood to try different techniques before I have a go on a piece of furniture, can you tell me what paints il need ? Wanting a distressed look , I see min wax provincial, and for stains vanthane? What would I need as a white base to start with ? Thanks Lynne
@rusticduckfurniture47447 жыл бұрын
Hi Lynne first off thanks for the kind words.!! You don't need a white base this effect is done on bare wood. I use the term "white wood" tonrefer to a group of woods that are light in color naturally (pine / spruce / maple / ash etc) so there's no base white coat! The three stains I ALWAYS keep on hand for different techniques are - Minwax Classic grey / Minwax provincial / varathane (rustoleum) dark walnut. Another 3 which are great for mixing are Minwax weather's oak / Varathane (rustoleum) Kona and Minwax red oak. With these 6 stains you can pretty much do anything! As for the best paint to buy - if you are doing a distressed look (is staining a piece and then painting over the top and sanding off to reveal the stain underneath) you need a paint that sands well. Many modern trim paints don't 'distress' well because they are latex hybrids (water based that act like oil for the hardness and would be advertised as alkyd enamels) so that's why the chalk paints have become popular. I almost always use Beautitone cabinet and furniture paint because its hard wearing / levels (smoothed out) well / has a hard finish when completely dry / takes glaze wells yet sands beautifully for distressing. A decent inexpensive paint that you can buy anywhere would be the Behr interior semi gloss paint and primer in one.

Thank you, I was looking for a DIY video like this.. This style of painting is getting popular all around! I would imagine you would use the same techniques on a wood table if you wanted to color it with multiple colors and seal it, stain it, etc..

Thanks so much for this helpful video! Beautiful work! - is it possible to accomplish the same with water based paints and stains?
@rusticduckfurniture47447 жыл бұрын
the paint is water based - I've not used water based stains on an effect like this but I would say it is possible - however the effete is gained by the fact that the oil based stain doesn't totally adhere to the paint below (it just taints the colour somewhat) so a water based stain 'might' give a little too much coverage and change the paint colour a little more. and for the clear coat yes absolutely you could use a water based clear as they are formulated to go over anything so thats fine. I'd be interested to know if you tried this with all water based products and how it turns out!!

Connie Brandt hi the paint I used for this is any type of latex paint you can buy at a big box store and the stains are again the standard oil based wiping (such as Minwax or Varathane) stains you can buy
