Congratulations! Now you have a workbench almost exactly the same size as your workbench that has a wooden workbench top that you parked underneath, but this new workbench is about 2 inches higher! Nailed it!

Nice handy horizontal surface to gather things....lol. I need more of them too. Great way to store the tool box and gain access to other things. It's only us Canadians who know the beauty of a deck screw with a Robertson drive!

Jim Dockrell you bet! Robertson drive is the only way to go. I used deck screws because thats what i had. I built the whole thing from materials i already had

I buy 50 lb boxes of them when I can....I have them on hand too and they are cheaper in bulk. Besides, I have another deck to build.

At 2:40 you can see it's about 25.5 inches depth (which, I'll admit is a bit odd). At 1:43 you can see it's the 4th stud in width - so most likely 64 inches in width (but he has a slight overhang - so probably like 68 inches or so). For the bracket, it's obviously 2 feet (depth) * 2 feet (ok, if you want a perfect isosceles you want to make the vertical part 1.5 inches shorter - so 22.5 inches - not necessary though). Now you have an inner isosceles that is 22.5 inches * 22.5 inches - courtesy of Mr Pythagoras we can figure the brace can be up to 31.8 inches - but i'd go at least couple of inches short (that way you're not right at the edge); at 2:38 you'll see he's actually about 6 inches from the edge - so it seems like he used a 2-foot long brace - which is smart because it prevents lumber wastage). It also seems like he's used 2*4s for all parts, but the angled brace is a 1*3. Lastly, there's the cleat - if the center of brackets are exactly 64 inches apart, the cleat has to be 60.5 inches long (assuming these are 2*4s). Nice build :)

great job, tho i would not bother with the decorative trim and I would have taken 2 pieces of plywood attach it to the vise and clamp with c clamps so as not to have it fixed if you need that space to work on the bench

How far do you think you can span? I picked up a 77" tool box and want to do something like this but worry that's too wide for just 2 end supports, but if the box is against the wall, the isnt enough space behind it to have a support with a gusset in the middle

Mr Hamstra. You did exactly what I want to do. Is there any way I can get a list of size boards you use and would this work on a shed? I want to mount a small vise and compound miter saw to it. 67 Woman in Texas.
