I do wheel repair as well, if you don’t have the money for a CNC Machine cut you’re going to have to live with the new polished out part, it’s noticeable but won’t take away from the look of the wheel unless done sloppy. The guy in the video imo is pushing it on sloppy due him cutting off being right before the spoke goes down center

Currently sanding my rims too. Sanding aint the issue for me but the painting afterwards. I rlly suck at it, its a mess, expensive and time consuming. Gotta do it tho, aluminium also "rusts" (react with oxygen)

Only aluminum rims can’t do that on chromed rims cus if u sand too much it will rub through and chrome will be gone ..well u can it depends how deep the scratches are.

What if after using sandpaper there is no first layer of silver paint? Should I wrap the rim and apply spray paint and then a clear layer or can I paint it over with a brush? (I have silver corrector in a tube with a brush)

What about the little groove lines that are shown in the beginning? The whole rim will have those lines except the part you sanded down

Machine marks will be eliminated leaving flat polished spots but still better than a big scuff imo.

Yes you’re left with a polished section but it shouldn’t be too noticeable when back on the car and it’s far better than a big scuff imo!

Protect them with something afterwards. I used a ceramic coating here but anything you can use on paintwork you can keep the metal topped up with.

These are diamond cut, you’re left with a flat polished finish which does contrast with the factory cut and lacquered finish a bit but still better than an unsightly scuff.

Yeh the final sanding marks were an option but decided to polish and blend, doesn’t look too bad overall.

Very coarse to start (the paper was so old it didn’t have a grade lol) and finished with 1500 before polishing which seemed to work well.
