Holy crap! I went to the hardware store, got what I didn't have, and got back home to tackle this. Amazing! Before, I've scraped with a razor blade, then spent hours with cleaners trying to get the glue off. This just very smoothly peeled back, taking the all of the glue with it and left my rear defogger lines unscathed! I know this video is almost 8 years old, but I need to tell you there are still people that appreciate it. Thank you very much!

I just tried your method to remove the tint from the rear window of a 1996 Accord LX and it worked perfectly! No glue on the glass and all the tint came off in one piece. Thanks for showing the world how to remove tint.

I was told that this process would take 2-4 hours, and at LEAST $50-$75 at the exact same place that installed the tint initially. So....... I youtube searched and voilà! Your video pops up. Unwilling to part with my hard-earned $$$ I will try your method. Thanks for making it look easy enough for a 40-something working wife/school mom to attempt.

Followed this guide exactly and it worked exactly as demonstrated. Thanks so much for posting this! I was worried bad about how to not F up that defrost grid trying to clean up the adhesive.

This worked perfectly! All the tint came off in one large piece (besides the bottom where the glass was coolest). I really wish I would've watched you vid before I already took 1/3 of the tint off. There was barely any glue leftover with your method. Tip: denatured alcohol works great for glue residue.

Had to remove my tint yesterday, was stubborn and used the hair dryer BIG mistake BIG BIG mistake. Had adhésif stuck all over the damn window. I tried this method for the passenger side 🙌🏾came off clean. I used the same method on the adhésif itself and it wiped off so easy. Great video thanks!!

Works great! Removed the tint on my car and this method worked great for the back window. Had a few glue residue on the upper defrost wire that's it. Used Windex, there is no 409 here in Canada... Didn't work for the sides tho... Had to do an hour of razor blade + Windex...

Awsome! I recently bought a suburban that someone had put very dark limo tint on the rear glass. I was really concerned about removing it and possibly destroying the defroster lines. It was so dark, I couldn't hardly see shit out of it through the rearview mirror. Annoying as hell! I'll be using your method here. Thanks for the time and effort on the upload. Much appreciated.

Can you do this process to remove the tint with also using a heat gun? Like removing tint during winter/colder seasons.
@DopeTintings12 жыл бұрын
Some tint shops do not know about this technique, but it all depends on the condition and age of the tint. Some vehicles do require a new back window or the defrost to be scraped but we do try to avoid that at all cost.

Hi Im trying to take the rear window tint off to put a darker one that match my other windows but I was wondering if this would affect my rear defroster. I went to a couple of places and they said that the process of removal would take appart the degroster. does this process do the same? thank you

@mobility638 жыл бұрын
you can use water or window cleaner. it must be a hot sunny day. between the liquid and heat, you are in effect, steaming the tint off. the plastic bag must be the large smooth BLACK type. slit it so it's one huge piece, then cut it the shape of the window, but bigger so you have extra to shove it underneath the plastic window surrounding...that and the window cleaner helps to keep it in place. I can't stress enough, it must be black, because black keeps the heat in. let it marinate in the sun for 20 or 30 minutes. it's important to have the back glass directly facing the sun. leave the bag on when you pick at a top corner to start to peel it. it should come off smoothly and quietly. if you hear a ripping sound, it's not hot enough and is probably leaving the glue on the glass and taking off the defroster elements. note that if you old tint is purple and bubbly, it's an old 2 ply film and probably will not come off easily. in fact it could take hours if that's the case, because the bag method will take only one layer of the film off, leaving the second purple and bubbled layer. it's not fun. and it's smelly too. at that point you might as well throw a brick at it and claim it on your insurance!

i tried this metod, it took of a plastic fil over the window, but other layer of tint remains! we tried to scrape at it, and some pieces did come of, but not even a little piece to take hold and pull. how do i remove it?

I know you said a sunny day. Does it have to be a warm sunny day? I only ask cause you mentioned that you used the rear defrost and heat in the car. So with those on, does it still need to sunny?
@DopeTintings8 жыл бұрын
+Ryan Kingery yes warm and sunny.. the defrost helps a little

argh i live in Uk son wants tints off to give back car to company for exchange 👍 no sun here.... maybe a hair dryer? u suggest
@mobility638 жыл бұрын
as for side windows and roll ups, just use glass cleaner that has ammonia in it, heat gun and razor blades. the bag method is too difficult on those windows. keep in mind no liquid is absorbed thru the film. your just using the humidity effect, ie moist heat.

Did you turn on the defroster before peeling of the tint ? Thanks
@deseremere6 жыл бұрын
And with the tint goes your rear defroster, especially for the older cars where the defroster metallic coat is soft and brittle. Ask me how I know... That's the main reason tint shops do not want to deal with it - you have about 50% chance to end up replacing the rear glass because of the severe defroster damage.

I like the steamer method better because it aleviates getting 409 (chemicals) all over the upholstery. You don't have to have a sunny day for heat, and it takes all the glue off too.
