DIY YARN (WOOL) SPOOL WINDER

When my wife told me she wanted to buy a plastic yarn spool winder, I said I could do better… so I had to put my money where my mouth was and started googling as I did never see one in my life…
Basically only using rubbish out of my tool shop, it all ended well…
Join me in building a wooden (and a bit of aluminium/Teflon) full ball bearing yarn (or is it wool?) winder (as a spinner is something else?)...

El contrapeso es para balancear el giro. Sin contrapeso, el giro rápido del mecanismo causaría fuertes vibraciones que lo gastarían prematuramente, si no lo destruyesen. Nunca vio usted qué pasa cuando se desprende un aspa de un ventilador, o se mete un ladrillo en un lava/secarropas centrífugo? Se destruyen solos debido a la falta de equilibrio.

@@sanjaymatsuda4504 Hola, entonces el contrapeso sería en iguales no ? Perdón, pero tengo 72 años y quiero hacer las cosas bien, por acá, en Argentina, las cosas están muy caras, y quiero hacerlo yo, mi hobby son las artesanías. Perdí mi trabajo y quiero ver si puedo tejer prendas para vender.

@@norma8282 Sí, el contrapeso debe pesar más o menos lo mismo que lo que está balanceando. Para poder ajustar el peso durante la fase de diseño y pruebas, yo usaría como contrapeso una bolsita llena de arena o clavos.

These are rubber O-rings/sealings I salvaged from something... I am sure you should be able to find them quite easily online based on whatever size you need...

Please tell us that the ways on your lathe are not rusty and it's just the white balance making them look that way.

I can formally confirm that the ways of my lathe are not rusty. Although it's a 1950/1960's lathe, and it still has the original paint, it is in good condition.
