@Mas-ud Al-hassan yes but the war was over 50 something years ago. The Igbos cannot be punished indefinitely. Besides are the Igbos being punished today the perpetrators of whatever crime their fathers or a minute few committed? Truth is, if the rest of Nigeria cannot trust the Igbos in ALL aspects of being a citizen, then they might as well allow them to leave. Its a disaster waiting to happen holding someone against their will. Rather than provoke another war which will most likely have catastrophic effects on civilians, it's better to let them go

I think Bamaiyi planned a coup within a coup, he played 3 faces. If the coup was successful, he would also dispose Diya. He already had his people in charge. If the coup fails, then he played along Abacha. Bamaiyi was the wisest of them all, he played everyone.

Even though Abacha was paranoid, I think there was a coup. Diya may not hv initiated it.

The Diya coup is actually complicated. There was a coup: so I think what is in contention is whether the idea of the coup was sold to Diya or he was the initiator of the coup. Thank you for this detailed video..

From the testimonies, it seems there was a coup. But Diya wasn’t the mastermind. They played on the fact that he was already disgruntled with Abacha, and their relationship wasn’t how it used to be. So they sold the idea to him, and he went with it, as long as he doesn’t participate in the warfare but gets crowned in the end. I feel Bamaiya planned it with Abacha to trap Diya. The dilemma of this whole coup is, Did Bamaiya have plans of taking out Abacha, using Diya as a smoke screen to distract Abacha from the supreme plan? This answer might never be known.

Watching extensive sessions of Oputa panel on this subject, Ive come to believe Gen Diya plotted the Coup, But the likes of Bamiyi and Sabo only played him a fool just to rope Gen Diya in.

It was a yoruba coup against President Sani Abacha. Oladipo Diya, Adisa, Tajudeen Olanrewaju are brothers from the same ethnic group. Not only Nzeogwu carried out igbo coup .

@@Omooloola my dear, there is no need to proof anything to you. History is a fact based narrative and not an emotional story... The video is not even my opinion, it's Bamaiyi's. Notwithstanding, Diya never denied the Coup. All he said was that bamaiyi and his agant provocateour should have been arrested as well. That is not a good defense. I can't fine-tune the facts to suit you or any group of the country. If I may ask, why is it that from Diya, Fajuyi, banjo, Taiwo it's always an attempt to rewrite history

@@HispleMedia firstly, you weren't asked to prove anything. Secondly, history is a fact based narratives... which implies that you have to provide legitimate evidence or guaranty that the narrative of your source is certain (or true).. You haven't fulfilled this. Thirdly, the "anti-yorubaness" for a lack of better term that reeks out of you in your videos and comment sections is just glaring. For instance, what does "why is it that from Diya......an attempt to rewrite history" imply? That the yorubas are always attempting to rewrite history to suit their narrative. How is that a fair statement. You should be balanced.

Diya was guilty, yes!! His only concern or argument was that Bamaiyi should have been convicted as well. Because, according to him, Bamaiyi initiated the coup. Since Bamaiyi was left out, it became an issue of whether Diya was set up. Thanks for watching.

Having listened the two sides of the story! Do you actually think this was a set up or an actual failed coup? Also, do we have any side of the stories from General Adisa and General Olanrewaju?

General adisa is dead. The coup was real to Diya, but not to abacha. Abacha planted bamayi to trick Diya into plotting a coup in order to get rid of him. Abacha knew every detail about the coup and told everyone to play along

From available info, Diya plotted a coup. Even though it appears to be a setup, he fell for it. He provided money for the coup, some meetings held in his house etc. How else can one plot a coup? My personal opinion is that Abacha knew that those who were inclined to support Abiola presidency may wish to remove from power,that is why he targeted mostly Yorubas in his own plot and they fell for it. Diya is lucky to be alive.

@@HispleMedia from available information, and even from the short video you show us here,l Diya did not plot any coup. the plotter actually plotted a fanthom coup to implicate him, and he foolishly indulge himself in the nonsense
