I'm a professional detailer and I can tell you...that is NOT a deep scratch. You CANNOT fix a "deep" scratch that has gone beyond the clearcoat into the base coatby buffing. Only scratches within the clearcoat and not compromising the base coat can be buffed out.

I've used this method often, it definitely works. Spot treating scratches like this instead of sanding or heavy compounding of the entire vehicle saves valuable clearcoat. Our job as detailers should be to improve the appearance to the customer's naked eye (not a detailer's trained eye), without compromising their clear coat. When it is your own vehicle, do whatever you want...as long as you know the risks.

That was pretty impressive I’m not gonna lie but depending on how deep that scratch was you basically just reduced that one small area of clearcoat which minimize its UV protection which is all fine and dandy for someone who doesn’t know better but if I were to look at that panel when you were done I would be able to see the unevenness in the clearcoat due to you just removing the scratch and not reducing the entire panel to make the entire panel match.
