My detailing routine in the winter is to first prespray DIY Spot Remover and let it sit on the paint for a minute or two to react with all the salt and crud. Then, use my IK Foam Pro 12 with Rinseless (if you don't have an IK Foamer, a garden sprayer is a pretty good substitute) to prefoam my car. After a minute or so of encapsulating, I have 5 gallon jug I filled with warm (but not hot) water from the shower/tub that feeds through a 15 foot or so hose to my cordless Worx pressure washer. It is no where near as powerful as a tradition 110 Volt AC pressure washer but it does a pretty good job of knocking the big stuff off. I will then refoam for lubrication during the touch wash for the road film. If there is still some salt on the paint even after the pressure washing, before refoaming, I will apply a second application of DIY Spotless and then refoam Rinseless over the Spot Remover and the touch wash with the second application of Spotless and Rinseless will remove the salt every time. Here is where I may be stepping into DIY Detail Heresy LOL. With a bucket full of Rinseless, to keep my hands from getting wet and freezing, I use a paint safe, boars hair brush on a pole to wash the paint instead of the Legacy Sponge/wash mitt/or other normal wash media. Even when wearing water proof gloves, dipping my hand in the bucket, my fingers would still freeze and be white and numb by the time I was done. The boars hair brush on the pole had been tested using the CD test so marring has never been a problem. The problem with a boars hair brush is that the more paint safe it is, it takes more work to get the crud off the paint. I would generally wash the paint in one direction (for example, up and down) and would then wash again a different direction (for example, side to side). That would generally sufficiently clean the paint but every once in a while would notice a streak of crud on my drying towel so a drying aid is particularly important. I even spray the towel on both sides before washing with the drying aid. For those not fimilar with the CD test, if you want to see if a form of wash media is safe on paint, take an old CD and wash the CD with the wash media and your wash solution. If it doesn't scratch the CD, it GENERALLY won't scratch the paint. The boars hair brush I use is so soft, I don't think it will scratch anything. LOL. Curious to hear Yvan or Nick's thoughts on this cold weather outdoor washing. Any improvements they could offer would be greatly appreciated. On a side note, didn't Nick or Yvan say Water Spot Remover would be offered in gallons eventually?
@diydetailofficial Жыл бұрын
Great technique, one possible improvement is when your boars hair brush starts getting tired, a flag tipped nylon brush is actually safer, and hold more liquid. Yes we should have gallons of all products soon.

@@diydetailofficial Thank you for the reply. Would there be any benefit to using DIY Waterless in place of either foaming?
@Sovrakha2 ай бұрын
@@bluegrasskid4835 I realize your comment is over a year old, but winter is coming so I thought I’d add my own 2 cents! Great idea, first of all. And Yvan (or Nick) made a great point about moving onto a flagged tipped brush once your boar’s hair is ready to retire. Your question about the waterless wash: no, I don’t think you’d see a benefit to using waterless over Rinseless for your pre-rinse, if I understood your question correctly.

3D Mats. The best investment I’ve made for my interior. They’re so much more aesthetically pleasing than Husky Liner or Weather Tech and in my experience they have much better coverage for your carpets. They have a Velcro like bottom that keeps them from moving around and with this brand of mats it takes me all of 10 minutes to vacuum the entire interior of my vehicles. I can’t recommend these mats enough to anyone that wants to keep their carpets clean and easy to maintain.

How long will the Ceramic Coating last on the Windshield and Glass, will you have to reapply every year? How much will you charge the customer for this type of job?
@diydetailofficial Жыл бұрын
Coating a windshield has no stated durability for several reasons. A coating is removed through abrasion. Some people despite the coating, still use their wipers. How often does it rain? How many miles are driven? How often is the car washed? Most professional Detailers charge $100 and up.

A bit technical question. When applicating DIY 3 year CC, the red foam pad gets dirty. Is it because of the graphene or am I picking up rubber from the moldings (4 year old car never coated) ? Is this bad or ok? Other question how do you know when a foam polishing pad needs replacing? How many cars approximately?

Not a problem, mostly rubber from moldings. A pad will start to fall apart when it’s time to replace it.

A stupid question I suspect - but I see you often decontaminate with the PSDT and Iron remover. Then spray on waterspot. Can you combine Iron remover with water spot remover when using the PSDT for decon? or would that cause issues? Hey Ivan. I’ve learning from you. I am a weekend warrior looking to turn my hobby into a little side hustle. I live in California in the sierra foothills we get lots of snow here in the winter I live at the 2800 foot mark but I have to go do snow removal for the department of transportation which I’m over 6000 feet where all the snow comes in Last winter I had 3-D Poxy on the vehicle for paint protection. It didn’t seem to last very long, especially after the first one or two snows. That’s what’s currently on the car. I was thinking about stripping it off and using Jescar Ultra power lock +. I like ceramic coating for its life. What I don’t like about ceramic coating is it seems to take the warmth of the metallic paint away. What is your opinion of Jescar. I know you have your own product line. One thing that I do have available to me at work when I’m up in the snow is that we have a steam pressure washer that I’m able to blow the snow off before shift starts and wash underneath the car and get rid of the salt and the sand. As far as the interior goes, I have the factory all weather floor mats they are OK three seasons of the year for the winner. I have the WeatherTech all weather floor mats and I like those because they’re much deeper than the stock ones cause they kinda go up on the sides I do have some of that turtle wax ceramic spray. I will do my windows with that for sure. I never thought about using waterless wash such as yours or P&S absolute. I think what you could do when you put that note windshield washer tank you could add a little bit of rubbing alcohol to it that will keep it from freezing. The vehicle is a 2015 Acura MDX all-wheel-drive and boy you see a beast with snow tires on

I would just get the 3 or 5 year ceramic coating so I don't have to keep reapplying and get the interior ceramic too it helps a lot
