I just built my half rack combo!!! I'm so stoked. I've been watching this video over and over, waiting for this moment. I got the pressure treated lumber a few weeks ago, then the parts. But I couldn't find the plates and the "unions" (or couplings). Lately, there have been lumber shortages out here in the Bay Area and Central California. But I finally had time to cut the 10' posts into all the sections. In the video, he skips the shorter floor beams, which are 21". But you can see them in the diagram. Then, I assembled the parts with a little help in my backyard. So, far so good. I already have the adjustable bench. Now, I'm just waiting on my new 45 lb Olympic bar and some plates! Woo hoo! Thanks, DIY Duke!

I'm surprised with some of the negative reviews. I was so impressed with the kzbin.infoUgkxMwYg0MOXR4M-oGeyBsNSYe1aPOUoRH6D cage that I got the lat pulldown attachment that goes with it. It is equally outstanding. I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B

Was your design similar to this? Did you use 4x4 beams for support? What was your hole spacing? @DIY Duke uses 3.5" spaced holes, but to accommodate both my wife and I I would need some holes to be 2" spaced, and I'm really hoping that won't jeopardize the strength of the setup

I built this as a DIY novice, so I just wanted to say thanks Duke for the very accessible & (mostly) complete video! A few things: A) the video somewhat skims over ALL the locations for the nail plates (namely at the junction of the main mast and the base), but you can see them in shots toward the end of the video. B) I needed more than 1lb. of deck screws (at 1 5/8 length) to complete the project. Buy 2lb to be safe. C) If you play it right, you can get the holes in the two plates to line up so you don't have to screw through the metal (e.g. at 13:47). Not a big deal but if you are slightly OCD like me it feels good. D) I built mine higher so I could dead hang without touching the ground. I'm 6'2", and I cut the vertical pieces to 97". For this I bought 2x10' and 2x14' pieces of lumber (hardware store was out of 12 footers) This adds mass obviously, but hey why not get BUFF just moving your rack around? Thanks again!

@@darianmccoy6433 I remember spending about $150 on this project at my friendly local hardware store, but I had to buy a couple tools, & I doubled up the plumbing in order to have two sets of rack pins. In raw materials, you can probably land around $100-$120 at a big chain store.

@@thevoid5117 Hey! Pretty good, I acquired the material's necessary and began measuring/cutting the wood. However, I decided to amend the Buff Dudes plan if ever so slightly. Personally, for back exercises, the constant resistance of cable machines superior (for me). After watching a video by Eddy Concepcion, who included a lat pull down on his rack, I've decided to incorporate some of his designs (for my own rack). Here is the link, good luck! kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJy2domYps2ci7c

Muchas gracias por compartir de muy buenos videos!...Saludos desde Chile!

This is great and I thank you so much for putting it up. I gotta say one thing though and that is, that in the beginning you say "Make your cut exactly 76 inches" for the tall beam. You should say something about catering this to your own height. Because i did just that, cut it to 76" inches. But im 6 ft 3. And when its all said in done, the things too short and its quite an operation to take it apart and get new beams. I tweaked it and jerry rigged it to be higher but doubling the base beams and adding another beam to go across on top, but its still too short. and now its really hard to move. I know you can bend your knees, but i like the military pull ups where you kinda have to jump up a little. Its especially awkward if your using assist straps so you can get in high reps. Just a hint for the next guy. If your 6 ft 3 or more, i'd go for 84 inches at least on those tall beams. Maybe even 88'. Just saying. if you do that you may need an extra 10 footer 4x4 from the store. super tight though, i got mine in the front yard. Much love! Best DIY squat/bench/pullup set ive seen.

thank you for posting this i just built mine and it works great. two differences in mine: 1. i didn't screw through the strong ties when they overlapped, i just lined up the holes from the second plate with the first plate and filled in the empty ones. i don't think my drill was strong enough to go through the ties. 2. i bought a 6in pipe and put the flange on the end and then used electrical tape to wrap around the part where the bar goes instead of buying a connector. i have some left over wood and im going to build the bench next!

Awesome! Seriously considering building these! If I did build/use it, it would be on concrete, those plates and screws being on the bottom would be an issue... also just an fyi to anyone who makes one, keep your body in between the bar and the supports (so you will be facing the rack with the bar on your back) just in case. If you dump it facing the way he was in the video, those angles will send that bar into the back of your legs in a hurry! Ouch!

If you use those metal plates like he did, make sure you round over the edges with sandpaper and file the corners nice and round. Those things will shave the skin right off you leg.

Good ideas for when I put mine together. Especially the threaded pipe. I plan to cement 2 4x6x12's 4 ft. in the ground then a rod across the top for pullups. The pieces you used to rack the barbell look great. I'll put a set for squat height and for bench as I have an old bench outside already. I have a rack in the basement but unfortunately the ceiling is only 1/2" higher than my head. Plus outdoor workouts are more fun.

It would be very interesting to see you do some sort of construction which would allow for cable cross. I mean, you have already blessed us with a half rack, a power rack, a bench and a power rack cable attachment. We're almost home, man!

Wow. No way I could build this, but the explanation, starting with showing all the elements, all the way to the end is just fantastic.

Suggestion for build: PULLEY SYSTEM. Also, one can just get a longer galvanized pipe and avoid the nipple, just put some pvc pipe over the metal pipe, between the flange and the wood post, so that it doesn't slide back, plus the pvc protects the knurling of the bar because it's metal against pvc. BTW, I did the power rack... that thing is solid! it's the best diy power rack out there! Thank you!!!
