Keep moving forward and don't allow yourself to become distracted by the whold project. Just work at your pace. We enjoy your videos and love the progress you're making. We lived in a 1986 14'X80' mobile home. If we had some of your talents, muscle and strong backs we would've replaced those windows and doors too. Our windows dripped black stuff in the winter months when condensation built up on the glass. It was the strangest and most irritating thing about those windows. It sure has been enlightening watching you gut your mobile home to see just how little is between the inside and the outside of the home. God bless you all and thank you for sharing it all with us.

Those silly termites aren’t particular, they’ll eat all things wood. Poor tree. Means it was a good thing you cleared around the mobile home that helped reduce the risks. It’s coming together nicely.

Always remember no untreated wood under home.This includes wedges .I was in the mobile home industry for 20 years.I have seen termites tunnel up a block and eat untreated wedges.Remember clean out all wood including paper out from under home and remember no wood connecting ground to home.A lot of people use it to support underskirting and also build access doors.If you must use wood make sure it’s treated.

As an exterminator once told us, "God created termites to clean up dead wood. Unfortunately, that is what we build our homes with." We had our foundation sprayed when we built our house 20 years ago. We are under contract with the exterminator. They inspect it every year for termites. If they find any damage, the exterminator is responsible for repairs. So far the little buggers have left us alone. (Southwest Alabama)

When we lived in Washington state we had a large Douglas Fir tree that had carpenter ants that were starting to come into the house. We had a professional take the tree down. It left a one foot hole along the ground where it fell. Watch the mobile home carefully as those termites will be looking for a new home. Your progress is our entertainment. Thanks for posting.

Termites are a big problem here in Queensland Australia. Probably due to the hot weather and thick bush land. We treated our house with a termite barrier. Our house is built on a cement slab so they drill holes in the cement right round the entire perimeter and fill it with a termite treatment. They come and check it every year and top it up if necessary. They told us that the termites are attracted to moisture and will burrow underground to get to moist spots. They recommend not having a garden up close to the house because of needing to water it. They check inside the house for any moisture in the walls also. Nasty little critters.

The lunar lander was constructed with aluminum foil (wrapped) 😅 and that made it 248,000 miles in a 10 to the minus 17 torr vacuum and an extreme hot/cold environment and still returned astronauts safety back through the van allen radiation belt and home 😅. So I think your 80s space capsule held up pretty well considering the termite alien s hadn't breached the radiation belt (Raid) 😅

you might need to eradicate the termites and get that three in chunks and off the propperty as fast as possible so they dont end up in the mobile home a forst i figured with the amount of new material you added to the mobile home you mightve been better off just tearing it down to the frame and start over from allmost scratch , but the amount of old material still in the home (mostly the roof and rafters and large parts of the floorbeams ) theres just about left of the old structure to make fixing the old a good choice m that said the scale can still tip toward more cost than gain if there are going to be problems witrh the roof

I rented a mobile home years ago. The owner put a new floor in as well as some framing he would come by every so often and spray around and under the home. About a year later we noticed the bookshelf had fallen apart as we removed it we saw termites. Seems the subterranean type made mud tubes inside of the block supports under the frame and devoured the floor and some wood furniture. Quick treatment should be your next action.
@smarthome266011 ай бұрын
The key to stop mud tubes at block foundation piers is a metal bug stop plate covering the entire block. The outer edges need to overhang and be turned down at an angle. Example: 8" x 16" block should have a metal plate 12" x 20" Galvanized 16 gauge. You can also spray on a long lasting sticky bug solution similar to what a mouse trap sticky pad is made of.

When my Dad would build a home he would build a set of shelves in the garage for the homeowner out of 2X10s.at the bottom rear of the shelves he would notch in a 2X10 vertically that would set flat against the concrete block foundation on the house. The reason he did this was to place a sacrificial piece of lumber for the termites. Also a way to tell there were termites to be able to treat them. The house I grew up in my Dad built. When I cleaned it out and removed the shelves that board worked as planed. The was some old termite damage to the board but not to the house.

I'm glad to hear the tree was the only damage from the storm. Hopefully the termites don't migrate your way, but I'm sure you have a plan in place to prevent that anyway. I guess the rain was a good thing so you could see and fix where water was coming in. Hopefully it will stay drier during this next rain today.

Those subterranean termites will make mud tubes up foundations until they hit wood. Easy to spot if you're looking for them. Just keep an eye on those block pillars for early warning signs. May want to consider blocking under any future wood posts for decks you plan for ease of inspection.

One day you need a parka, then day or 2 later, you're thinking it's a good day to run down to Galveston and go to the beach hehe. Almost a blessing y'all had that weather, so you could find the extra sealing needed to be done on the roof. Maybe the tree falling was a blessing to reveal the termites living in it. I’m not sure how it works with a mobile home, but for a slab home you can dig a 6” deep trench around the home and pour a termite pesticide in it. It’s supposed to last for many years. It just creates a barrier so when they burrow through the soil toward the home, they die. My husband started the process on our home but doesn’t really have the right digging tools.

Doug, please allow me to speak some advice into your life. I am in my 70's and have spent the last 14 years in much pain and been hindered in ability to work because of injury. I ask you to take time to go back over some of your videos and take note of working outstretched on shaky ladders and other questionable actions. Less hast more speed. Your health and adjility is essential to what you are trying to achieve. Also your family life style and enjoyment will be much better if you are in good physical condition. Maybe consider selling Stan and buying a good staging platform on wheels. Please slow down and consider all your actions. Sorry if I seem to lecture but I think we all need a mentor at times. Your family love you, look after yourself.
