A common trick is to leave your new bearing in the freezer overnight... It will give you a bit more clearance to push/tap the bearing back into the pulley.
@alexlai2580 Жыл бұрын
Actually, I’d suggest using a small piece of 2x4 to start hammering in the bearing. Even with the closest sized socket to the new bearing, I managed to damage it. Luckily I bought spares. With the bearing a portion of the way in the pulley, use the socket with the non-fastnerer face side contacting the new bearing, and use the 2x4 piece on the other side to hammer the rest of the way.

The replacement alternator belt I ordered (31110-PCX-505) was way too short, yet I believe it superseded the older belt. My guess is that it's an aircon delete belt... strange considering I ordered the part using my chassis number.

I'm about to replace my pulley bearings as per this great DIY, I have 2 x 6203-2RSH as per your recommendation (I believe the H denotes heavy duty seal), however it's rated at 12000rpm limiting speed... forums suggest that at max rpm, these bearings are hitting 15000+ rpm....have you had any issues with yours since you replaced the ebay items with SKF?

what kind of noise was you hunting? and if it was bearings what was it?
@DIYGuysvideo6 жыл бұрын
It sounds like a whirring noise at about 5K-6K RPM. Seems to be coming from the front of the car. It might be the clutch release bearing since that is directly correlated to the engine RPM, like the pulleys I replaced.
@c0deye16 жыл бұрын
DIYGuys whirring like a turbo sound? changing tone with rpm up and down? if so i also have that, it used to worry me but i spent many hours on forums and a lot of people just said its normal sound from gearbox on s2k

It’s sorta sounds like clutch buzz (cha Cha cha sounds) not a turbo whistle. Only happens between 5K-6K as well.

When you do serious work on a car DISCONNECT BATTERY GROUND ! It neads cleaning anyway.
@russelloppenheimer39702 жыл бұрын
Um, this is pretty routine work. No need to remove ground. Remove ground when doing anything electrical, or whenever there is a chance you'd short + to ground (like using wrench nearby any exposed terminals).

Some additional notes. The pulley that uses the reverse thread has a handy arrow embossed on the pulley showing direction to remove. Righty loosey. The cleverly chosen socket sizes that are used as bearing drivers will fully press the bearings flush. The bearing can't be pressed too far, and only the outer bearing ring will see force, protecting bearing. Even if you use a press, use the stated socket sizes to support, and to press the bearings in & out. If the specified sizes for pressing in new aren't available, make sure whatever size you use presses bearing outer ring only, and be careful not to press the bearing past flush.

I kind of cringed at the hammering on the bearings rather than using a press. Anyhow, if you do use a press, I wonder if it's necessary to have that mega socket to support the other side of the second pulley?
@russelloppenheimer39702 жыл бұрын
Old I know, but for the next guy, yes, still need to support underside of pulley to prevent pulley cracking, even with press. While a press is certainly better, not everyone has one. Hammering is fine SO LONG AS ALL THE FORCE IS ON OUTER BEARING RING. Hence socket sizes he used.

Hello DIY Guys, nice video, great content, I have question for you and maybe you could help with this. I have a Mazda Tribute 2008 4 cyl. I lost the serpentine and noticed that the top pulley was loose, so I removed it and say that the washer behind it was damaged (it's for the power steering pulley) according to a diagram I found online. The pulley is still good, not damaged. Would you know where to get that washer part without having to change all the pulleys? Many thanks, John

Fantastic video. I've ordered the bearings but they sent me the c3 version of the bearing. Should i return it and get the 2RS only bearing or should it be ok? I assume you don't need any high temp grease on the shafts when re-assembling the pulleys? Would love to see a video on how to replace or rebuild the common sticky starter motor grind on the s2000 in cold weather :)
@DIYGuysvideo6 жыл бұрын
Pictures make it seem like there is no cover between the inner and outer race so I'd say its a no go if that is the case. No grease necessary. The start motor grind is a very very common request. I'll likely do it this winter.

@russelloppenheimer39702 жыл бұрын
Tons of people have done this, including me. Zero reports of bearing separating from pully. I have over 60k miles since doing this service. Mechanic is assuming the press fit surfaces of pulleys will be worn as old bearing pressed out, and new pressed in. Like many things your average shop mechanic assumes, he is wrong.
