Horseshoes is one of the most popular games out there but oddly not many people have pits at there home. With our tutorial you can build Horseshoe pits and be hosting your own tournaments in no time.
The objective of Horseshoes it to throw your shoes closer to the stake than your opponent or get a ringer by hooking your shoe on the stake. Competition heats up as players block and eliminate their opponents points.

That is absolutely correct! We originally were going to use the same specifications for official tournament play but after talking with a lot of do-it-yourselfers we found that people tuned out after hearing how technical the stake had to be. So in tradition with our motto, Your House Your Rules, we decided to make it as simple as possible and make the stake straight. Thank you for posting this to reassure people that our rules are not aways "OFFICIAL"

On the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association it says to use a 36 inch x 1 inch smooth solid iron rod at an angle of about 12 degrees from vertical until 14 inches remains above ground so each leans toward the opposite stake......

I never mix dirt in with the sand. This is just asking for weeds and an impacted landing area. And you need sides and a back, not just a 2x4 level with the ground. And the stakes should angle towards each other as others have noted.

Drive the stake into an 8in by 8in block of wood and there should be a 3in lean.
