Very good video that really gets you to thinking. I will be 60 next month and I'm not in any kind of mood to "bug out" anywhere. I will be bugging in and that quite frankly will be my last stand if need be. My wife and I both are in decent shape and a couple of tough old birds so for sure we can take a few marauders down. We plant a garden every year and I am just beginning to start prepping for the worst although we do keep a stockpile of emergency supplies, generator and water. I am very tempted to build an underground bunker on my 3.5 acres and really go all out with the prepping....I'm talking like a year supply of food and necessities and a solar powered water well. That's a big decision to make and I will probably get there slowly but things are not looking good right now. There is a different feeling in the air. A feeling of doom like the end times are getting nearer. Does anyone else feel it.? I know I can't be the only one. This is a good channel and keep the videos coming. Thanks!

@10:04 was the discussion of your house being lit up like Ft. Knox...and everyone else's house is pitch black. For us, we keep several cans of black spray paint on hand to paint the INSIDE of all our visible picture windows and front facing windows. Curtains won't get it as there is always some light escaping. Of course, not foolproof, but combined with heavy curtains or shades it gives us a much better chance of not being 'busted' by the neighbours. Old WWII blackout procedures. Good vid. Good video - has got me thinking. I live in a small village in the british countryside - which sounds ideal , but the reality is that you can't even put the bins out without people seeing you, as I have two horribly nosey neighbours who seem to spend all day watching everyone else on my street. If there was a blackout (and there is a risk of this in the uk this winter) , simply locking the doors, drawing the blackout blinds and getting all the preps out will raise eyebrows as I would have disappeared. I will have to think about how to not stand out in an emergency.

Make sure some of your goods are WELL hidden, on the off chance that someone breaks in because they think (or know) you have goods. Basement? Upstairs? Make a simple safe room. Can you build tall fences? Or grow tall plants to give your hard/home a bit more privacy? A food garden can easily be disguised as a beautiful flower garden ;) Make friends with those people. If you don’t want friends, make “nice” regardless. Bake some cookies or make a batch of jam or pickles and share to be neighbourly. This may lead to discussions about canning, which could lead to talk about the importance of preparedness. Have plenty put away & a full full pantry so you can possibly trade with others to stay on everyone’s good side.

Just a tip. During possible winter power outages I always fill my bath tubs. I found one of my tub plugs is no longer holding water. By the next day my tub was empty. So do a test run if you are planning on using that method

@@aprilcapps4564 typically rainfall washes chemicals and airborne particles from the air, I've seen some reports of rainfall being polluted with everything from E-coli to heavy metals (mostly around major population centers) fwiw I have and use a clone of the Berkey and British berkefeld countertop water filters because of low quality water in my hometown, you can get OEM parts and filters for a fraction of the retail price of the brand name systems 🤔 even a carbon ceramic filter candle in a clean food grade plastic bucket can give you almost pure drinking water.

Plus side, the weather is never too bad, and I'm pretty well prepped. Security as a lone woman will be the most difficult. A few years ago I was gonna buy a life straw for water (I am surrounded by water sources) then I learned about the Sawyer so I just bought the big expensive Sawyer for like 30 bucks since it says online it will filter a million gallons of water so I should be good awhile lol. Just remember with all these filters make sure you use a bit of your clean water to back flush it after each use or it will get clogged.

The thing I'm most worried about not having is clean drinking water. I have about 6 months worth of drinking water, and I bought a Berkey filter system, so I can put rain water into, and purify it. Then, there's creating distilled water on the stove, if the stove is usable.

Tip for apartment dwellers or those with older houses---if you have an older bathtub/shower like me, check to see if you have a working plug for the drain. Mine came with a generic plug that was supposed to fit several sized drains but didn't create a seal that kept the water in. I spent $2 and got a plug that fit. Now I'll have secure water storage and I was glad of it when they shut the water off for a day to do repairs.

Our first hurricane after moving we tried the fill the bathtub thing. It was one of those pop up ones. It did not hold water well, but was great for trapping hair. Replaced it with a old fashioned plug, and a hair screen, which works well.

I have a Bug Out location in mind that is an operational Scout Camp, not far away, that has multiple beneficial aspects to it (including bows and arrows, a water source & water tanks, generators, etc). I just have to figure out how I can get my preps there if necessary (minus any operating vehicles) & without anyone else noticing! I think I need to build up my strength so I can carry tins etc there and improve my fitness...the camp is uphill from my home! I will be 60 this year but that's just a number! It means I am wise, aware and willing to do what I must!

While I have 5 gallon buckets of dried beans and rice for long term I also have canned beans and 90 second pkgs of rice for very quick preparation. I also keep jars of salsa to top them for flavor. Another thing...figure out what kind of beans/rice you like. I prefer jasmine rice so if asked for assistance they get the plain white rice. As far as beans go I like quite a few but there will be a few I will gladly share such as limas, not a fan. Also if its harvest time from my garden anyone I don't like gets okra, I hate it. My prepping plans are simple. I will stay and defend my home in the city. It would be too hard to pack up all of my stuff and take it somewhere else, plus I don't have anywhere else. Recently I started to get a bit of a prepper mindset, but I realized everything is just too expensive. My new plan is "prepping on a strict budget." I was thinking I need to design my own mini-stove but alcohol is too expensive and dangerous to store in large quantity. The best fuel would be wood, but come to think of it, I have lots of obsolete computer books and cookbooks I could burn if I needed to, though the fumes would probably be toxic and need to be properly exhausted. A few years ago I threw away a bunch of old books, but I guess I should have kept them as potential fuel.

@@shirleyh9020 Yeah I have a good one with a PPM readout. It's good because it sounds the alarm at a lower level than most detectors that don't have a PPM readout. It's called "Nighthawk". The only thing is that it was manufactured in 1995. I think it still works though. Actually, I just noticed the one in the description looks good too and is battery powered. But now they have ones that also detect explosive gasses. Maybe I should buy a new battery powered one like the one in the description, when I get the money.

Check out a stick stove if you are considering open fire. You can find knockoffs for around $20. Only need small sticks to cook. You would need to be proficient on starting fires though. Not overly difficult. Just need to recognize any issues you might be having.

Maybe, an oil lamp would be good to have. Might be able to find one cheap at Good Will, and the lamp oil can be bought at Walmart. Some heat will come from the oil lamp. Use a couple of them. And then, there are candles, which can also be found at Good Will, fairly cheap. It might be a great idea, too, to have a fire extinguisher.

As someone that lives in the city in a real situation not just a bad storm or something I’m getting out of town asap. While the people are still waiting for the government to help them and panic buying. Best to be gone before the looting and desperation starts. Pluse you can then work deep into the woods farther then most will be able or willing. A late retreat to the woods will have you crossing others hide outs which could prove deadly as they will not be happy to see you there. Cities are not good places to survive desperate people are extremely dangerous

Mini 1 burner butane hiker stove with the propane adapter. Amazon sells a few different ones .. get 2 1 spare ..it can use multiple types of fuel . Because versatile. And a propane tank adapter hose from torch tank to grill tank ...1 20 pound grill tank will run a little backpacking butane stove for a couple of months fixing food and heating teapot .. baofengs don't reach very far . They're used to dock barges etc.... Put angle iron around the doorframe if you can it's cheap and maybe 3 hours of a good welders time

If you live in a high rise, always be prepared for fire. A fire blanket is cheap ($20) and useful to easily lay over a fire or as a shield. Or keep an extinguisher handy. Practice an evacuation. Know how many minutes it will take to get down the stairs and out. Were you dressed warmly enough when you got outside? What did you forget? You might be surprised...

Grey man probably works better if you have family and kids with you. But I am teaching to be both. How ever it's going to happen, it's going to happen fast. A 20-minute drive could become a three day bushwacking exercise if roads become blocked. Be sure to prepare for that possibility. I can't remember the novel I read where the family was prepared to drive their van as far as possible, then use their bicycles, then backpack if necessary. It was a fairly good dystopian story and the survival ideas were plausible. Wish I could find that book again.

I experienced 2 typhoons in one week while in Okinawa. First the power went out. 2nd no water. I was able to "catch" water from the downspouts rain and fill the tub. Seems the last thing people think is how to deal with body to waste. And that will become the biggest problem when SHTF.

You can fill your place with all the food to last you and your family years upon years. But, What happens if you have to bug out. You're not gonna be able to carry all that food. Also if your place gets raided and someone takes it all. Are you prepared to sacrifice your family for that food? The best preps you can do is Knowledge on how to gather food, Natural resources or grow your own. Never put all your Food in 1 basket, (House) Store food in other places. If you can afford it. Get a climate controlled storage unit. Or bury it somewhere. There are many videos out there on DIY Root cellars. You can even do this if you live in an apartment. Find some state property. And dig. Make note of where you've buried your back up plan and tell only who you trust. Your immediate Family in case something happens to you Once you feel confident in your skills of survival. Anytime extreme weather is upon you Go out in a primitive way and survive it. You can take your gadgets just in case, But don't use them as long as possible. If you use them consider that a Fail. Try again later. Go out and survive primitively for more than 24 hours. Get a feel for what is to come. If you can conquer it now You can have the confidence to conquer it when you have to. Learning how to survive in all climates as well as every season in a primitive way has given me the confidence that it doesn't matter what happens, My Family and I will be ok. Here are some examples That may help you get started: Desert, How do you Keep the sun off you, or Get water, When is the best time to move across the land, What can you eat. All these things you need to learn for yourself. I know what I am capable of doing. You need to find your way Mountains. How to get food, How to walk across the terrain safely, How to make medicines, How to stay warm. What to do when a storm comes. Water is usually fairly easy to get. But knowing how in your possible area of being stranded is a must know. Cities, How to scavenge under the radar, How to filter water. (this applies everywhere btw) It's easy to find shelter this way. Food will be limited. There is a bigger threat of running into psychos. Islands, First thing make sure there is fresh water on the Island, If there aren't there are tricks to getting it. These include, Sweating green non toxic leaves. Learn the difference. Draining bamboo. If that island has bamboo you are gonna live like royalty. Looking for edibles. Learn edibles from around the world and how to define the difference between what is poisonous and what is edible. You never know when one of your crazy friends has a wild Idea. Oceans: How to distil water, How to collect Fish for food without getting eaten yourself. How to keep the sun off you. How to navigate your way home. There are many different ways to survive. Some take a lot of work some not so much. The key to survival is to be able to beat the weather, Keep your immune system up, Eat and Drink, If your in a longer term survival situation and the winters are Cold You need to work spring, Summer and Fall to collect wood, Food and water (if there is not a natural Source of water close) and build a shelter to survive the winter. Medicines. Many roots and plants can be made into medicine. Extracting root is your best friend this is a Wonderful Knowledge to have. My bug out case has a Knife, Axe, and Stainless steel Pot. Jacket extra clothes and a custom starter med pack. and a Foldable shovel. I also have a way to carry water. and a home made filter, Sorry for the long comment, I tried to keep it short.

Stash 2 gallons of water for the flushies. No electricity means no water pumps for the bathroom. If its yellow, let it mellow. If its brown flush it down. Put the water in the TOP of the tank, not the bowl, and it will flush like usual. Keep a batch of water containers in the bathroom, in the shower or tub, behind the sofa... anywhere there is airspace to do that. We'll have a different kind of winter this summer.

If we ever get to this point, before then check out some natural ways to power a generator like if you have a wood burning stove use wood gas, running low on Kerosine for heaters gas and oil mix can make a sub for kerosine and other fuel sources.

I did get a few survival books, have my rifle and pistol, made a good bug out bag, and some seeds. Can’t get a good sleeping bag right now but bought a few space blankets which are cheap.

Most police have went to digital frequencies that regular police scanners will not receive. Also many of the digital systems are scrambled so digital ready scanners will not always work and there are several different protocols for digital systems. In my area the Sheriff’s Department and Fire Departments are still analog but State Patrol and Tribal Police are digital.

Just one caution: window solar fails!! I tried it. I have a solar electric generator (i.e. an inverter and battery) with solar panels. I'm an engineer and tried several configurations to make use of windows but could not get adequate power generation at all.

If you have a vehicle and/or gasoline powered generator, keeping plenty of ethanol free gas in Jerry cans is a good idea. Add fuel stabilizer to make it last up to 2 years. It's a good idea to use it up within that range and then refill and re-stabilize again. Older gas may be fine in vehicles, but may not work in small engine equipment.

Nice video, well thought out. Here in the UK, some items in an EDC could be illegal to carry, such as a pry bar, that may come under the law as "Going equipped" and put you down as a potential burglar, etc. Also, we have no real rights of self defence and most firearms are not accessible to the public and sidearms are banned (even though the criminals seem to have no real problems getting them !) We are not allowed such things as pepper spray, etc. nor a knife in public with a non-locking blade of longer than 3 inches, also ANY knife that is locking, butterfly, flick knife, etc is automatically illegal in public, regardless of blade length, basically we can only carry something like a Swiss Army type knife (multi-tool) on our person in public, some of the more expensive multi-tools can be also illegal to carry on your person because of a longer blade length (unless it is for work purposes, and being used as such) otherwise it has to be away, in a tool box, etc. As I said, over the years, we have been gradually disarmed, by various laws.

I would say everyone needs to try realistically asses kind of urban environment they live in and what are the main risk there. In USA in suburbs people maybe be able to store much more stuff than people in not so big appartments in europe (where the urban development is NOT restricted to single family houses so most live in multiple family appartment buildings). On the other hand small appartments dont give people that much space to loot the stores. During the pandemic i only saw ONCE that store would be out of toilet paper. And that was a smaller store possibly just rearranging stuff ;).

Tip for success: The #1 thing to do when SHTF...check on the people in your neighborhood to make sure they're ok and have everything they need for the immediate time being and if you can help them, then do so. The best way to not be forced into defending yourself is to make that potential enemy into an ally as early as possible. This isn't humanities first rodeo with disaster and we've always faired better together than we ever have alone. If you haven't already introduced yourself to your neighbors and know each other by name, you are not being the best prepper you can be. Gear is great, but extra manpower is priceless

my friend, all these videos on stockpiling goods for bad scenarios are ok and relatively easy to accomplish. You just need the will and some money. The biggest problem is to build a Mutual Assistance Group! I know a couple of prepared guys in my town and I consider them friend, but in reality they always mind their business and don't even remember to ask me if I am still alive. Today adult people live among others but not with others: they do their life, they just need their house, car, wife and sons. I wonder how these people could act in a bad scenario! I know a lot of people feel alone for this cause. I'd really hope preppers feel the need to unite and really consider others, maintaining good relationship during quite times to be strong together if times get worse
