How to mod an AIO water cooler!

This is a video on how to modify your computers AIO (all in one) water cooler! I mostly show how to change the tubes on them because that is a process the majority of AIOs have in common. Having clear tubes means you can see the water in the system, and if you dye it a cool color then you've got something unique and interesting showcased inside your PC.
You can also change the look of the radiator and pump, but the way to do that is different on every AIO so I can't show how to do it on every one. I do have an example of how to do one of them, so if you've got the same one then you can copy it! Otherwise, you'll need to experiment. Don't fret though, taking apart the pump is much easier than draining and refilling the loop.

It's good to use tubes that are specifically designed for this purpose, if you get lower quality ones they will tend to degrade over time and get gunk in your liquid.
Some places you can find coolant and anti corrosive water treatment! I used Mayhems in the video, but I also suggest Thermaltakes P1000 coolant as it has that nice anti corrosive quality. Mix your coolant with distilled water if you need extra liquid.

@@Dougline_ hey yeah definitely the basics are the same I was looking at the video cuz I want to put hard tubing on my nzxt aio because I like the screen a lot and the radiator doesent really matter and I want to put liquid graphene in for cooler temps but I am not sure if the nzxt z73 has barbs at the cooler part and not wanting to take it apart before I know it works properly it won’t be super hard if it’s actually had a proper fitting so it looks nice

If the cooler is old I suggest checking the barbs for galvanic corrosion. If you see any signs, disassemble the CPU block to check it for clogging particles of aluminum & super carefully clean the fins then put it back together before proceeding with the rest of the video.

Thank you. One thing you might want to mention if you update. Most hoses are permeable to a limited degree. Over time they all lose water and eventually the pump fails when it starts pumping air. By doing what you've recommended, you can extend the life of the pump, maybe not a lot, (I have no science to back this up) but better than just letting a pump die after a few years. Really like your channel for the ideas. I'm using this one to extend a loop that was too short for little $$$.

Look, you went straight and easily solved the problem of the presence of air in the pressure line of the liquid, I watched many videos doing repairs on this hydro and none of them used this method of plunging the suction line of the pump into the tank! Congratulations I'm going to do the same thing on my H100i Corsair!!!

This video is old. Anyone finding it in present time. You’ll want to know how much liquid the OEM puts in. Some air is required, water expansion under heat is a real deal. With zero air and all water. Thermal expansion could be a serious issue causing leaking/cracks/etc which would damage the air or other components. So leave some air but better just find how much liquid the oem puts in w/e aio you have. That’s the key.

Would adding a reservoir solve this issue? Im planning to daisy chain a few old aios to make a gpu cpu loop and my plan was to use a reservoir to solve any filling issues as well as thermal expansion.

Lovely performed man! I did this last year to two different AIOs, can approve it's easy and encreases performance and looks. For all those people who havent't allready an AIO to do so I would suggest buying an AIO such as Eisbear (LT) which is acctually designed to be modded. I loved to mod mine twice allready.

@@finndann6686 I had it for 2 years and recently cpu was 50 on idle so I opened the waterblock (copperplate) and it was gunked up. I used oven cleaner to clean it and refilled with water instant 15 degrees difference. the water in it was brown by the way. by the way didn't mod it, I just refilled it from the block and it worked like a charm.

Totally did this on my cooler master ML240L. It worked so well that i did it to my h60 as well. Heres a tip. Crayola makes these color tablets for kids baths, there designed to not stick to or diy and surface they come in contact with. So now you can color the aio water now

I was surprised at how little water came out of that radiator when you had the pump on when you were burping the loop. I thought the flow would of been quite a bit stronger but instead, it literally dribbled out! I suppose the default pump speed is on like a balanced setting. I was looking at my Corsair H100iv2 and instead of it having that sort of shrink rap black rubber, mine has plastic. There is really nothing to cut unless I really take this thing a part it seems. I'll probably have to go find a teardown video of my aio to get started. Love your mods man!

It is possible to use your AIO block as a CPU block on a complete custom loop, if anyone is considering getting a custom loop and is coming from an AIO out of warranty it might be a dumb but fun idea just for the uniqueness of it, of course you would also need a Pump/Reservoir combo if the Block pump is actually damaged or for redundancy for when it goes bad in the future.

Radiator liquid tubing has a heat rating so be careful when choosing pipe.

There is only one fault in this whole thing. Loops are a really meant to have a small amount of air. It is for expansion when temps get extremely high which can happen. If the loop is completely filled. It can cause pressure and make a leak. That's why deepcools new coolers have leak pressure valves. It's just something to watch out for .

I found a coolermaster aio with 14cm radiator for 8 usd. :D It is working. I allready own a 24cm corsair. I am going to build a dual cpu system in near future. I am planning to combine the two aio. :D This video has been very helpful. Thank you very much. My plan is: Cpu block, 14cm radiator, cpu block, 24cm radiator. So I will have two pumps working. :D First I should check wether it is going to become a problem or not. But if it does not become a problem, than that is it. :D 38cm radiators for two cpus should be enough. If not, then I can try to hunt down broken aio's, because generally their pump dies out. When my pump dies out, I can use aquvarium pump (1999 style. My first water cooler system was consisting of tupperware as water tank, aquvarium pump inside tupperware, car heater radiator, cpu block, gpu block and northbridge block. :D )

I think that it would be dependent on strong the pump is. You'd need to be able to power through not just two, but four hoses.

I could see that with an open loop setup and using the CPU as a pressure booster if you intend on cooling a lot of components or have a bunch of radiators in your loop.

I would have made the hose's a lil longer, plus I would have added a 360 radiator plus kept the 120mm radiator. Ive done this with a raijintek aio and i added a 360mm radiator to the existing 240mm radiator and the temps were practically lowered more than half the temps.

Question: If I got myself some Alphacool NexXxoS RXP-1 RAM-Cooler Black, it would be very straight forward to connect them up to a modded AIO like how you showed in this video, wouldn't it? Just add tubes and tighten them, and add them to the loop. Right? My PC already has a good AIO for the CPU, but I found an old 240mm AIO in my PC parts box and I was thinking maybe I could try out water-cooling my RAM.... 😅 Thoughts?

Antifreeze is the liquid to use water it down to 30% concentration and make sure its ethylene glycol based and advertises low or no silicate content and use ZMT/EPDM rubber tubing with it because itll react with certain clear tubing making it brittle and prone to failure. You dont want clear tubing anyways since itll leach plasticizer into the loop and gum up in blocks and radiators

I took my Evga 3080ti hybrid kit took off the 240mm radiator and swapped it for 360mm rad way better performance. These companies should customize these aio with clear tubes

tubes are usually 13/10 mm. I believe that the bigger the radiator, the bigger the pump should be.

I have to do this because the ML240R tubes aren’t long enough for the Lian Li o11 mini. I’m re sleeving the tubes with braided chrome Mylar and using heat shrink tubing to reseal it like it was before. Thanks for the tutorial

Well this is good info, I was planning on an m-atx build for my son's gaming PC and was put off that I couldn't use my old H100i as the hoses are too long, and even easier for me because I don't need to replace the hoses, just trim them down and maybe sleeve them to a different color.

Just came across your video and I thought of a question. Is it possible to switch the connections from the barbs to some other more secure and professional looking connection like that of the compression style? I just found a water cooler for the Raspberry Pi 5 computer, and a company has made a small water cooler for it. The problem that I have is that the lines are flexible and I would like to take a crack at using actual rigid acrylic pipes for the cooling lines. However, these are not conducive to Barb style connections. So I wanted to switch them out. Do you think that's possible?

@@DIYTechTube That's alright, didn't expect you to remember :P The video is already plenty helpful! The only AIO i've ever modded was my first AIO, the Fractal Design Kelvin S24. Vinyl wrapped the shiny part of the CPU block with black carbon and added an EK res, EK fittings, some clear tubing and Mayhems red premix. Made it run through the VRM heatsink on the Z77 Maximus V Formula but didn't add a drainvalve or flush it beforehand, so the tubing ended up green on the inside haha

@@-timosflight Hi, yup I did. Just make sure that the liquid cooler you are using is exactly the same as the one in the video, as this is quite an old model im not sure if there are any revisions to this model if you got yours recently. the soft tube that works for me would be (ID 3/8, OD 1/2)

@@-timosflightsince its 6 years old, you may consider opening up the cold plate as to clear out any debris that may have accumulated. Youll need a triangle precision tool though (fixiit has it). Im not sure if I can give any useful tips.. An extra PSU and fan controller with cables will be nice to modify your cooler away from your main system. And remember to always check and confirm no leaks before installing it back in your main system

ive got a sensor in my radiator that detects air in the loop this is normaly used in racecars if it detects air it turns a light or opens a valve specialy designed to remove air from liquid, it can be modded to shut the system down, its cheap and usefull as it detecs temp and pressure too with a 8mm hole if your pump fails it will off the system. i think motec ecu company has this too
