I didn’t see the other “steps” about removing all filters from GE; GE’s instructions: remove pre filter 1st, membrane filter 2nd, & post filter last, then replace new filters in reverse. Then purge system for 24 hours; replace the battery (supplied in pre/post filters packet). That’s it. I got mine in 2021; perhaps, GE has a newer version that requires the process you used in your video; however, I downloaded the instructions today from GE’s site and instructions were the same from 2021. I replaced all my filters today using GE’s instructions I mentioned above here.

I've had mine for 4 years and just replace the filters as per the instructions. Pre and post every 6 months and center every year. No issues. I don't even purge for 24 hours after changing the filters. I just run four 5 minutes to let the air out and then let the remaining air percolate out after that with the tap off. Why waste all that water and lose 24 hours of filtering. That seems like a month of water use maybe. I'm drinking the water, not doing surgery with it. I also discarded the battery. It's just annoying. Instead I write the dates of install on the cylinders. Simple.

Good morning ☕️ we really appreciate you watching and sharing your experience. We continue to enjoy this system, it has been great for us. GE tech mentions to purge 24 hours for a few reason’s including removing air, properly priming membrane, and removing any chemicals remaining in system as the new filters and membrane are introduced to system and begin operating. 😁👍🧰

Is it absolutely necessary to purge the system after each replacement? How many gallons of water am I losing when I purge? Could that water be used to water plants or is it truly toxic? Thanks for your videos. You're the only person on the internet that makes this look easy

Thanks for watching, according to the manufacturer, it is. We have had that same question for sure, not as much water as you think since it’s a trickle. Kinda like letting your car warm up in freezing cold temperatures…you won’t get heat until the engine is warm. Same goes for the filter and membrane, if you don’t allow the system to purge (warm up), you won’t get to experience the quality of the system at its fullest and best. As far as using water for watering plants, we haven’t tried that…🤔…that will be personal preference.

How often should the system be purged and how often sanitized (bleached)? What does purge do, and if not purged after changing filters does that mean you’re drinking stuff you shouldn’t be drinking because it hasn’t been flushed out? I’ve even got an extra set of sealed filters.
@DIYwithMichaelBorders

Copy and pasted from your comment on our other video. Thanks for watching, great question. GE recommends system to be sanitized once a year during the time you’re replacing membrane. Purging will ensure all air has been pushed out of system which in return, will allow your filtration system to perform properly, efficiently, and as designed. 😎👍

I have the older version of the GE profile RO, is this basically the same instructions for that version as well? Or is there a different video? Ive had this filter for a few years and ive been happy with it until recently it stated gurgling a lot and spilling water out of the overflow hole in the faucet. Ive searched and looked for a solution but not sure what to do. Ive changed the filters as well but it just gets worse. Could it be that something is clogged in the system? Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks

@@willb.3787 Thanks for watching, any update? It’s very possible that the Black drain line is clogged. We would open faucet and allow tank and system to fully drain. Once drained, we would disconnect the drain line and check its condition. If clogged, it will need to be cleared. Keep us posted.

Good morning ☕️ By chance did you replace the internal flow restrictor? This part has the tiniest little hole in it and if gunked up, can lead to your exact issue. You brought up purchasing a new system. Honestly, not a bad idea when comparing price of new systems against purchasing new filters, membrane, and flow restrictor. We talked to a viewer recently that did just that. He purchased the exact GE system and he mentioned he was very happy with his decision.
