Thank you so much, I was getting this burning rubber smell coming through my vents with the heat on, figured it may have been a coolant leak. Followed your instructions as best as I could and so far, the smell is gone. Got the part off amazon for $40 and did thr labor myself. You may have saved me hundreds of dollars and I was able to do it while the temp is at 30 below. 😁 Now here's hoping I didn't give myself pneumonia or frostbite. 😅

My thanks is not enough for this great video, Michael. Two of the lips broke off in my Chev Cruze LS 1600. My fan was going beserk and upon opening the bonnet to my shock discovered that one hose was completely loose off the longer narrow lip and spurted coolant all over the eng. block. Long and short of it was that the coolant resevoir had emptied amd I was a few miles away from a total engine seizure, which I would not have been able to afford to redo. I bought the car brand new and two years after I had a leak in the bottle. Again, by luck I opened the bonnet to check something and, by miracle chance saw reservoir almost empty. My car was still under warranty at the time and the mechanics for GM dealer said unfortunately that's a problem with the Cruzes. Now that was two years old. My car is now 6 years old - in fine, fine, nick with not much mileage - but it's the SECOND time this has happened. I love my car - it's reliable takes me everywhere - BUT Just cannot understand how a big multinational like GM can insert a very important part of any vehicle - though it might seem innocuous - into their product. Such an innocuous part could cause a huge engine failure and result in turmoil for Cruze owners. Exactly, we are not supposed to check every day whether a reservoir is intact. Shouldn't they have been recalled when these cars were brought out to remedy the issue. A big big negative. Anyway through your expert advice - I'm not technical - managed to get the sick part off its mounting and now off to the spare parts shop down the road. I am NOT buying the GM part, for sure. I will watch the how to drain part when I get back to fix up. But ... do I have to really drain it? So a million thanks Michael. Really appreciate it brother. I am extremely lucky. I could have been minus my wheels today - and I can't afford to be without a car. God Bless. Go well. Mark from South Africa.

Literally almost passed out from coolant fumes the other day while driving with the a.c. on, got the Dorman part for 20 bucks at AAP and the dealer wanted 160 to fix it (40 bucks for the gm part and 120 for labor), did it myself for next to nothing thanks to this video. I watch both the Chevy Cruz & Sonic 1.4 liter Turbo vids. Your step by step is better than most if not all. I did a DIY on my Sonic when the spout on my cheap plastic water outlet part failed. However I was more fortunate than most. I only had the hose slide down & didn't know why it was leaking until I had that clamp off. On the top there was a quarter sized hole & toward the spout cracked down both sides. I took a tin snips & removed from the top to the bottom of the spout @ a 45* angle. I then put a hose clamp that I can easily tighten & loosen easily. Below that clamp I attached another clamp on the opposite side for integrity. Then there is a heavy metal bracket with a machined out portion. I was able to wrap paracord in an arborist configuration for self tightening to that metal bracket. The wrap on both clamps will not loosen & the angle will keep it from sliding down that spout which has no nipple on it. I also run a 75/25 % Dexcool coolant cuz Chevy knew after 1 year that these 1.4 liter Turbos were running hotter than they expected & that many plastic parts were due to fail. I wouldn't buy that water outlet part from GM for even $10 😄. I will buy a Dorman & put it in when weather permits. I only drive this car in the MN winters cuz it has a great heater & since my older Toyota handles summer well. I will also be getting a new Dorman overflow radiator tank cuz of the design & my old tank had alot of heat during this event.

Hello, I just replaced my 2012 Chevy Cruze coolant reservoir thanks to this video 🥳 however, the part where the clip goes doesn’t fit. I got the same one that is in this video, do you have any suggestions?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching & we appreciate you sharing this. You will want to ensure that the hose is properly installed onto thermostat. Unfortunately, if you push the hose on too far... it will not be properly aligned for the clip to slide down in place however on the opposite end... if you don’t push it on far enough it will also not allow the clip to shift down and lock in place. We recommend taking a few minutes & carefully adjusting hose onto thermostat & finding its sweet spot.

My daughter's 2012 Chevy Cruze ran hit today. When I lifted the hood the coolant tank was completely empty. I added more and noticed it was all leaking back out. Could it be the tank or is that the water pump?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Have you pinpointed the exact location it’s leaking from? Dave Mcclure Thanks for watching Dave, that’s an overflow or pressure relief vent. If the system over pressures, coolant will leak out the vent.
