Thanks for sharing this. I just did the water pump on my cruze and I noticed that there was air trapped in the top of the radiator. Open the white plug on the passenger size radiator tank with the engine off and the coolant cap open. You can hear the air escape. Then you can see the coolant drip out of that connection. Air in the coolant will cause the system to run hot causing additional wear and tear on the gaskets or crack the plastic pieces.

Thanks! I wish I had seen this plug would have mentioned it too. Just pulled mine and air also escaped! Now it should be fully bled. Thanks for watching and the tip!

Excellent video. ONLY thing not mentioned is that you MUST AIR bleed the radiator with the WHITE hex plug on top of the radiator thats on the passenger side in the front. Its tucked under the cover and you can use a philllips head screw driver or a 13 mm socket. Also run the heater through a few cycles to clear any air bubbles trapped in the heater core. Besides that AWESOME video. Thank you again.

Good video, informative. fore warning: had the identical slow leak on my 2012 with 90k mi. Being a gm tech for over 40 yrs I assumed the same part on the leak. after replacing it - it still leaked! Found the real issue was simply the large hose clamp on the gooseneck had insufficient clamp load. Could of saved some money & grief by simply using a pressure tester to begin with. 20/20 hindsight never fails.

I’d replaced two of these on my wife’s 1.4l cruze, due to the the summer temps destroying plastic components in the southwest US and then by the third time, I got an aluminium one that had clearly used the plastic version to make the mold and then had it’s sealing faces machined later. Touch wood, it’s been great so far and I’d definitely recommend it.

I’ve come to realize that the reason why these break and leak. Most of the guys in these oil change garages tend to lean on these exact parts when changing the oil filter. If you notice, under these parts being replaced in this vid, you can see the oil filter cap and nut. Well, since there’s not much room to changed the oil filter, these guys start pushing over the coolant hoses and the plastic housing and dont realize that their fracturing it. To much much push and shoving over these coolant parts can cause cracks and leaks and also on the uppers hose coming from the reserve tank. So now, when I go have my oil changed, I warn them about that are and to take it easy.

I have a 6 speed 2014 Chevy Cruze and it has been phenomenal! I ONLY started experiencing problems when I let the oil get to 7K before replacing it. I have been changing the oil every 3-4 thousand miles, and have roughly 160,000 on it now. I really like the car, but started experiencing this exact issue in the past few days. I hope I can repair it with some quality parts and have it go for another 7-8 years. I have since resumed the 3-4K mile oil changes. I don’t think this car does well with used oil, I’m not sure why 🤷🏽‍♂️ or maybe it is simply coincidence. Thank you for the upload!

I just repalced this water tube on my daughter's car. Be very, very carefully when taking out the old bolts from the old water tube. The top bolt snapped off just behind the dead of the bolt. Car has 90,000 miles. After a small amount of heat and some small wiggling in a counter clockwise direction, it came out. Piece of cake for a experienced mechanic. 71 Inch pounds on the new bolts, and good to go!

I have precisely the same problem on my 2013 1.4 turbo Cruze. Thanks for posting this video. I stopped watching a little past halfway, since "installation is the reverse of removal", as they say in most manuals. Changing one on a 2012 that someone used screw on clamps. The plastic appeared to have expanded at a different rate than the clamp could causing a perfect straight crack under the clamp. The original clamps would expand and contract by design as the motor heats and cools. FYI

Hi there. I am going to replace mine soon, so your video is really helpful! One comment: at 1:58 I can see that you inlet turbo hose (the one with the PH3 written on top) is quite dirty. Well, I had the same problem (there is boost leak there as well), so I removed my bumper and I removed this hose and replaced the rubber o-ring that's placed inside. Pro tip, if this happens to your Cruze don't wait to fix it. It will destroy the water pump before long. I and my family own the 1.4 and 1.8 ecotec in various cars and my aunt waited fixing it. She now needs a new outlet and water pump. Fix this ASAP, it's cheaper than the new pump.

I wanna say it's for the 2012-2014 Cruze. I fixed one for my aunt with the water outlet leak but she let it get to o far like this and the water pump gave out. These 1.4l require a very attentive owner or they struggle to stay running. Little repairs get bigger with time. I work for Honda and see this alot. It's just a valve cover leak until you run the engine dry and score the internals, then it's just a new engine. Chevy should warranty alot more than they actually do. I love the Chevy brand but they have room to improve.

I just had the same problem you describe-" plastic becoming brittle, and breaking off inside the return hose" -did those broken pieces inside cause other problems with the engine or radiator?

you should check the pcv system, if it's faulty it will break all of the engine gaskets

just replaced this on my car. Old part has an O ring and new part does not. It is still slightly leaking, We put old O ring in and it is helping somewhat. Any ideas from you would help. (The O ring is part of the reservoir hose.) Thank you.

@@SOMETECHTUTORIALS man this car is a real piece of junk. I purchased it with 30k miles & it now has 97k & I’ve put $3,500 into the cooling system. I fixed the issue that lead me to this video just to have it overheat on me months later again from elsewhere. I’ve had it back from the mechanic for approximately 6 months & the check engine light came on last night. It runs well for a few months & then it’s onto the next problem.

check your sensors, theres one that clips right into the engine and its only in there by a little o ring gasket and a small clip you pull upward. its a ten dollar sensor, replace that one and the one on the passenger side radiator with a clip. also ten dollars. id check those first

There totally is a drain plug. You would cause a huge mess if you don’t use it and do what you instructed to do when draining your coolant.

Thanks for the video. Can I skip emptying the coolant through that tap below the car? If I skip that part, then I guess when unclamping the hoses I will face with some coolant pouring out. Is there any problem with it?

Coolant will pour out of the engine block if not drained. Better to drain before then clean up a bigger mess during.

Take the turbo heatshield off.. Just behind it, facing the RAD, there is the eng block/turbo drain plug! If U can park downhill it is even better (drain from the bottom of the eng block). Refresh the DEATHcool adding new (or the $ame U drained) OR flush with soft water and fill with G12+(plus) as a replacement(non-us). It is cheap, widely available & compatible. My 0.02$
