Just did the rear calipers and got crazy bleeding over and over. The first part made me think and sure enough, I had the calipers reversed. Just swapped them and waiting for a partner to help bleed again. I'm hopeful now. I was careful with the part numbers and markings on the box, but neither caliper had a right or left marking of any kind. I double checked when I swapped them over just now. Uodate, bled then good and working great now. I almost paid a shop to figure it out. That would have cost me if they had to move them to the correct side. So glad I saw your video. Thanks Bud!

Understanding all the components better now, thank you. ‘05 Prius, had a hole in the hard brake line just before the soft house at drivers side rear. Patched in some new line, tried to bleed, but very little fluid coming out. Other side is normal. Brake pedal doesn’t depress, it’s too stiff. Disconnected the union to the patch, but no fluid leaking out, so I’m thinking the problem is master cylinder or the proportion valve thing. Guess I’m gonna try the master cylinder hack you showed next. Let me know if you have other ideas for me? Managed to leak the whole reservoir out the original hole in the line before I started working on it, kinda funny it won’t pass fluid now.

I’m having issues with my front passenger side caliper, went to bleed with an air compressor and all was good at first and liquid was flowing, then all of the sudden nothing. Replaced the brake hose figuring that’s where the clog may be as it was pretty old but still having issues, when disconnecting the new line some brake fluid does come out where it connects to the caliper.. could a new caliper be needed? Reason for bleeding and inspecting in the first place was my brakes would go in and out, when they were out it would require the petal being nearly pushed to the floor to apply breaks (and would pull to the left- like the right side wasn’t engaging at all) that would go in and out maybe about every half hour Bleeder screw was cleaned and inspected, no rust clogging inside the caliper, and when trying to bleed manually the pedal never firms.. any ideas what could be the issue? Tried loosening the lines like you did in one of your videos with no luck

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders the failure to be able to bleed ended up being air in the abs module where the fluid just couldnt push past that, my brother got it figured out after a frustration break in working (lol- the fix always comes after that one more try i swear). Did end up having to get new rear calipers because they're old and seem seized, but the bleeder screws snapped when attempting to bleed the rear and broke screw extractors refusing to come out, definitely still some air in the system but did end up needing to replace the master cylinder as well which hugely aided the issue as it holds pressure now. hoping to nail the coffin in this issue with replacing the rear calipers which just arrived today and complete bleeding the system of air c:

@DIYwithMichaelBorders Жыл бұрын
Good morning, just poured a cup of coffee and am sitting down to answer any and all questions for the DIY community. That’s no fun. It’s very possible that the cylinder inside the new brake cylinder is stuck/jammed. If the inner cylinder is jammed, it will never shift back and forth as you apply pressure to brake pedal…thus never allowing fluid to flow or bleed out durn the air-bleed process. Some will recommend a few gentle taps with a hammer on the master brake cylinder itself in hopes of breaking inner cylinder free so it can shift back and forth. So, I just replaced the calipers and steering gear on my 13 silverado 3500HD. It has the hydroboost on it and I refilled the power steering pump and cleaned out most of the old PS fluid and then bled all of my brakes from rear passenger up to the driver's side. They all get an equal amount of clear brake fluid coming out, it's nice and clear, and no air in the lines. The pedal is pretty firm with the power off and the power steering reservoir is also full and it turns just fine. However, when the engine is running the brake pedal can be pushed to the floor with almost no effort and then it slowly springs back (maybe a second to return to full position). Soooo... All air has been bled out, power steering has been bled and seems to be turning the wheel just fine, the hydroboost seems to be functioning (clear brake fluid shoots out 10x as much when I open a bleeder screw while the truck is running). I'm at a loss as to why I don't have any brake resistance and I assume it's something proprietary that has to do with the hydroboost. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
@DIYwithMichaelBorders5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching, any update? Do you see any signs of brake fluid leaking underneath car along the entire brake line system that feeds from engine compartment down and back to rear tires? A properly bled system that still allows pedal the allowance of going to the floor is almost always due to a leak. Again, that’s if the system is properly and fully bled of all air.
@MyFortressConstruction5 ай бұрын
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders That's what I figured too so I went back and bled the master cylinder by disconnecting the line a quarter turn, pressing the brake down and then tightening again before releasing. That made a huge difference so that the brake actually functioned, but they still feel spongy, so I did some emergency stops so the ABS might activate, but that didn't seem to do anything. I took it to the alignment shop and they said the pedal felt normal to them, but I don't think it's completely bled yet. Can you think of another area air might get trapped? I've gone through a gallon and a half of brake fluid clearing out the old and trying to find air in the system. For now the brakes work, but I'll probably bleed the master again after I've driven around and maybe do the back passenger to see if any more air comes out again...
@DIYwithMichaelBorders5 ай бұрын
@@MyFortressConstruction We appreciate the follow up. You may need to perform additional bleeding…however you mentioned you did. An additional area to consider is the ABS module that all the brake lines feed into. By carefully loosening one fitting at a time until brake fluid gathers on the fitting, may also help any last bit of air to be moved so it can be bled out during an additional bleeding process.

Interesting, currently I’m working on a 98 Honda I just did the master, booster, full front brakes calipers included an FR + RL bleed weak. I changed the prop valve today an same results. Maybe my pedal/booster is adjusted incorrectly causing 1/2 of the master lines to not fully supply the prop valve when pressed (no abs system) Going to have to look into this tomorrow some more.
@dimrocksosabby2553 Жыл бұрын
When I bench bleed the master both outlets were supplying fluid back to the reservoir so I doubt the master is fucked. It’s the outlet towards the farthest end of the master that supplies those wheels if that makes a difference when it comes to piston travel.

I get fluid coming out but still won't bleed

Hi there, it may take a bit longer to bleed. After about 20 minutes or so and still weak brake, you may need to bleed all 4 wheels.

Did a disc conversion on a 64 Mopar and brakes would not bleed, tried gravity siphon and reverse bleeding and nothing. Set up a bleed bottle and pumped the crap out of them and nothing so replaced the master cylinder with a Wilwood 1 inch and still nothing. So i started researching on line and there it was sure as ---- get a bigger hammer, no kidding beating on the new calipers while having someone pump up the brakes. They burped up a bunch of air like a baby being burped and started working.
