This vid is awesome. But, if you set Ableton to 100bpm then you can have everything matching up with the record revolutions exactly, since, as he says, 133.33 is just a close approximation, and it drifts slightly further away over time. At 100bpm you can then set the time signature to 12/16, and this gives you 12 beats per revolution - which will match up exactly with the clock visualization. Your grid lets you put samples at 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock, etc. This means you're able to place samples every quarter or every third of a revolution without having to mess about going back-and-forth with the time signature like he does here. It also avoids having to bounce the sounds together, so you can still move things around later.

at 13:38 in this video you reduce the bpm and the sample shrinks down to 1 bar, when I do that the pitch changes but the sample stays the same size?

Thanks again my friend, and I'm looking forward to learning more, and checking out some more cool videos and advice that you have, right now I'm an open book, and trying to soak everything in, as much as possible, awesomeness, talk soon bud. :)

Thank you for this video. I am just having a go in Ableton and having consolidated my samples from audio files using audacity I have input them into the software set at 133.33bpm and some sound faster than others. Is there any way to have them sounding consistent (apologies if I have skipped anything in the video regarding this). Also, having looked at the bpm of some of my battle records they seem to be set at 83.33bpm @ 33rpm - in what way would this relate to setting samples on the clock face? (or would this not work at all?) obviously 83 would be 20bpm quicker than 66.66bpm for having the two spokes on the wheel that you speak of.

very nice tutorials in general thank you so much. I'd like to ask you something. I tried this last tutorial myself without a prob. However when I export to audio and play in tractor I got a very flat waveform... :( As I know quite nothing about live I was wondering if you knew about a way to optimize this... I tried to add a compressor but did not reach the expected results? Alternatively do you know any auto that would be able to help? Thanks heaps mate. Have a good one.

Hi, Angelo, I have a question. Is it on ultrapitch style, I mean... recorded on 45rpm to be able the slow down the platter like the scratch science LP at 133.33bpm? But when I export, the pitch stay on normal speed and it pitch the voice when you slow down the platter. How can have this kind of effect? Like slightly speeded but enough to not ear the warping when you slow down the speed? 200 BPM? 266.66BPM seems too much... Thanks!

Hi DrWatson, would this math help my issue which is trying to get a 180bpm drum & bass drum loop to be a skipless loop? I've tried all sorts including exporting the track as various multiples of 33.33 and 45 i.e. 45, 90, 135 and 180. It just won't work, any ideas please?

I'm looking into picking up a Maschine Mikro Mk2 soon, would that work well as a tool for making "scratch tool" tracks? Thanks again for this video, had to come back and watch it again...LOL

@isaiahfurrow741411 жыл бұрын
got my mikro mk2 with 2.0 Friday, this thing is going to take a while to learn to use. I hope to make mashups, remixes, and assemble scratch tools for now, and make original music later on down the line. I have a friend with Ableton that might be of some help with parts of this, and I have been dabbling in Audacity just for compiling scratch sentences and such. I have 3 kiddos and will be trying to not let the Maschine take away too much time from DJ practice, so it will be slow going. Thanks for the reply, and keep shining.....

DJ Angelo ... I love what you have done here and I was considering getting Ableton Live to mess around with but it comes with a pretty heavy pricetag (~$500). I saw that Sony's ACID Music Studio 10 is going for considerably less (~$50). Are there significant advantages to Ableton over ACID that I'm just unaware of? Spending $50 for a software I am only going to mess around with is much easier on the wallet than $500 ... especially since I'm not a serious user yet. Thoughts?
