on the mixer you set the crossfader to play out of 1 side and on your headphones channel selector you pick the other. then when theyre matched you throw the cross fader in the middle and they both play out of the speakers.

about the 4 hands, they do sometimes use remixes, commercial or their own. about MIDI: as far as i know, you can't sync up regular CDJs using midi, you have to use a virtual vinyl solution.

cool, an aussie listening to someone playing in Belgium :p What the CDJ en your mixer can do is send MIDI signals. These can control MIDI software. A CDJ won't send a MIDI signal with the tracks BPM. I don't know much about MIDI, but it just sends signals when you press buttons. There's one extra thing called a MIDI clock, this can send a metronome-type signal, which is used in producing to sync loops with other MIDI devices, but regular music and their players aren't made to do this.

when you are using pioneer's cdj 1000 then remember if you are gonna have a perfect match on the beat. push the master tempo button when that is done you not gonna get the speed up sounding when using the wheel. then push the tempo button that it stands on +6. when you are + up the tempo/bpm, 1bpm higher is 0.80 on the bpm. 1lower is -0.80. cdj 1000mk3 is quite right on the bpm counter:) try it and you see:)

I think you just get to know your cd player and recognize the offness of it. So when you are beatmatching you can overshoot accordingly. I'm a newbie to this but I have had that problem with other things in life.

To an extent I guess. That's definitely how I learned to play guitar. So people say that's impossible to do, but I think most people can learn. It just takes listening really hard to a lot of music. And having good speakers. :)

When tracks are made in the studio, quite often the audio will get cut and pasted to make sections longer or swap bars around. Different tunes are edited in different studios by different people, so when you try and match two songs together, the small timing imperfections in each one can be enough to throw things off.

Easiest way to beat match on CDJ's or any other equipment is to know a single BPM is 0,8 % on the CD player. If you want to match songs playing 128 and another one 129. The 129 song will go out of beat if you just put it to 128, because it wont be in time. In order to avoid it getting out of beat, use 0,8 % on the CD player. Its right next to the BPM counter. 0,8 % is one BPM.

What I would do is try one way (slow down or speed up, have a guess) to correct, but only slightly. You'll then hear whether it was correct, and it gets closer to beatmatch, in this case continue in the same way. In the other case (if it gets worse), immediately counter your first move and continue the other way. You can do this with both the pitch control (slider) and pitch bend buttons or jog wheel.

Could you elaborate on that? Do you mean like it has to do with the cd player itself controling the pitch? Sometimes it happens because of the track itself or a problem with cd but I'm not talking about those scenarios.

Does anyone ever come across times when during beatmatching, you have to suddenly adjust the pitch even though the beats are in sync? E.G. - You bring in the second track and theyre beat matched so you start messing around with the eq and channel faders to ensure a smooth mix but suddenly the beats go off and you have to adjust the pitch. Like the beats were in sync for like 20 beats and all of a sudden it starts to go off. Can anyone explain this?

if you really have beatmatched the 2 tunes you won't have to correct anything, but actually this is nearly impossible... there is nothing bad about adjsting the pitch or using the pitch-bend buttons...it's just a question f what you like better: doing everthing on the pitch, pitchbend-buttns or touching the platter...it actually doesn't matter when you'r able to achieve a smooth mix

Try beatmatching something like drum & bass. House and such is WAYYYY easier. In dnb the beats can go all over the place instead of being your typical 4x4 beat. When you have two tunes with totally different beats its VERY hard.

this is kinda off topic...but when i read the bpm that my cdj gives me on a track, it tends to go up and down. like, it will start at 127 and then go down to 125.6 then up to like 138.2....its really weird. so im kinda forced to detect it with my ear, which is good :D

a cd player is as steady as its engine, if th eengine of the cd player slows down just a fraction of a second then the tracks will go offbeat if you know what i mean

Actually it happens every so often. I find that I constantly have to switch from eq to jog wheel, eq to jog wheel just to make sure that they stay beat matched. I would like to use more time on the mixer rather than back and forth. Do you think that it may be the brand of the cd players? Im using Vestax CDX-05s right now.

Why do you and the others who make Dj's tutorials keep saying that we have to listen ONLY the second track in the headphones if we can hear both? probably it's a problem with the tracks you are using. bad recording or even pitch change during the music (it's extremely rare in dance music but it could happen).

not really. if u spend ur time to get a perfect beat match first time round, you shouldnt have to touch the pitch again after that... what J is showing is how if u only vaguely beatmatch them at first, then they will go off after a short time
