In my opinon, "more details" headphones not always respect the overall tone and intention of the musician. Take for example a low mega pixel camera with the right lens and the right colors processing of the sensor. I think the m50x is a lower pixel camera, but it sounds natural. I was gonna buy the HD25 which I thought sound superbs in mid and highs, but the 50's is a more complete headphone in spite of some lack of details. The 40's and many headphones sound shifted towards the highs. BUt I liked your insight a lot. Thanks

I've had the Sure 440s for over 8 years before it broke. Great sound, imo. I bought another 440 this year. I am about to get the 840s and choose one to be my backup. However, I am a small guy (5 foot 6). So, maybe that's why they lasted so long for me. I've had no issues with them breaking on me. With that being said, I've also had Pioneer and Sony headphones and they used to beak on me all the time in the 90s and in the early to mid-2000s. Finally, a friend told me about the Sure headphones, and I haven't looked back ever since. :) I am wondering how the 840s will compare with the 440.......Oh, and I DJ trance, too. :p (Or, I used to, at least....my last rave was in 2009 in Atlanta....I still DJ for internet, radio stations whenever someone calls me up...)

I'm around the same height as you and so far my Shure 840 is still holding up just fine doing weekend broadcasts up until now. Sometimes, the leather cups twist and fall off if I'm not careful, but they're easy to slide back on. It would suck to lose them in a dark rave though. It's happened maybe... 2 times total. Not a huge deal

@@DJFeelsGoodman Have you tried the SRH840As? I can hear EVERYTHING. Plus, they are lighter than the original SRH840s. The 840As DOES have more bass to it, but I can still find the beats easier on them than even on the original SRH840s. And the original SRH840s are indeed better than the 440s. I even ordered another SRH840As for back up.

I was using M40X's before but they were just too flat for my liking as I like my bass punch, and I mix primarily trance and techno. I just got the Pioneer HDJ-X7s a week ago and it was a noticable difference. I am keeping the M40X's but only for producing now, where I want the more flat sound.

i need a closed headphone, but can't decide between ATH-M40x and SRH840a, because precedently i got the srh440a and my ears and head would hurt (i have a really big head), what do you think in terms of comfort?
@DJFeelsGoodman
@DJFeelsGoodman 6 ай бұрын
I think the SRH840A might fit similarly to your SRH440A. One thing you could do is try an ATH-M40x and return if it's no good. Believe they have some available on Amazon right now with free 30-day return. If the M40x do end up fitting your head, then you can further upgrade them with softer ear pads. I've got "Geekria Elite Sheepskin Replacement Ear Pads" on mine from Amazon, and the overall experience feels much nicer compared to the stock pads.

wonderful video bro, Which one has a better build quality for long-term use? M50x vs Srh 840? My head is quite big and I have had experience of breaking cheap plastic headphones on the side my temples.

DJ Feels Goodman I know the M40x came out in 2014, & you made this video a year ago, do you think the M40x still worth $100 or should I spend the extra $50 ($150) & get the M50’s?

@@Elevated805 I had my M50 headphones simultaneously for about half a year after I purchased the M40x. But I decided to sell the M50s (while keeping my M40x.) I personally felt that they were more useful / more accurate for DJ'ing out at gigs. The one thing I can say about the M50 is that they felt a bit more comfortable. But not enough to make me pick it over the M40x.

I own a pair of 840, nice headphones but for me they are so uncomfortable, I always have headache, maybe is because the weight. I was considering get m50x, are they comfortable? (I have a small head hahaha)
@DJFeelsGoodman

The m50x feel lighter, but they squeeze my head a more tightly than the 840 (just a little bit). Between the 3, the M40x feel the tightest but the least heavy.

Between M40x and M50x, if you plan to use them for entertainment, I would say go with the M50x. If you want more balanced sound and you plan to use them for DJ'ing or careful listening, go with the M40x. I haven't tried the HD25 yet, although one of my friends has it. Maybe I can compare one day.

What about the bad build quality of the shure's? Any concern about that? Im really consdering getting the srh840 or srh940's

I've heard about that. But i haven't experienced any of the things people say about it. Mine are still in basically the same physical condition they were in when i bought them. I dunno if maybe all those other reviewers just have big fat heads and stretch the bands a bunch or maybe i have a small noggin lol. But that's been my experience 😂

I would skip anything Shure altogether. If you have a slightly larger than average head, they will be too small and their build quality is worse than any headphone I've ever seen, even $10 generic brand models have better quality plastic. I could hear them cracking just trying to put the band behind my head. Most music was enjoyable on them. They have a lot of extra upper mids and treble so don't even think about mixing on them and some metal sounds pretty harsh but other music sounds like you're in a large auditorium listening to the natural acoustics of the room.

@@DJFeelsGoodman I've listened to a lot of headphones; DJ's often use the HD25's - I did own the slightly updated HD25-1-II version, the sound was not good at all, only if it was essential to fold an ear-cup to the side while wearing would they be worth considering. Sonically the MT5 just do so much right - powerful and tight, strong mids, wide stereo, easy to drive and their build is simple, solid, lightweight & comfortable. When not gigging on the road the highly detailed open-back DT1990's (with fuller sounding B-pads) are my go-to for mixing and mastering, but they need an amp. In fact the only headphone missing from my 'research' is the SRH840 - so I may have to try them sometime!
