I have been doing electronic music for over 20 years and I just recently got Traktor. Now I am watching all this DJ world and is like a "gear overload"... so many possibilities! way too many! And last night I went to a club here in Miami to listen to a "famous dj" and what I was listening too was the sort of experiments I used to do back in early 90's. They have this track and they just move the EQ and loop something and that is it. And this is not the first DJ I see doing that. They are not using the equipment at all. Because I am an actual musician I can tell what they are doing. A week ago I had this guy in my office telling me "the world of electronic music is growing, this is the new thing", and he played a track of minimal techno. I asked him, is that new? he said it was from 2010. And he came up with another track. I was like "what?". He was telling me that was the future of music. I told him: all that was done 20 or 30 years ago already. We were 7 people at the office and I told him: fin me any one of those "new bands" and I will find you that same song made 15 years prior. I started to do a search in KZbin of all the songs he never heard of. Pet Shop Boys remixes, Erasure remixes, even Boy George remixes that are beyond of what Armin Van Buuren is doing. Lets not talk about Depeche Mode remixes prior 1995.... 20 years ago! But well, that is evolution and that is how things are.

this is music to my ears - i really loathe having to muck behind the mixer changing cables whilst another dj is playing (and after) - this so much easier and less intrusive to the dj before and after you. Can't wait to actually get a chance to try this. No more RCA cables - bonus!

In the pioneer settings utility located in Applications / Pioneer / DJM 900 Nexus, click the "Mixer Output" tab and then choose timecode Digital as the USB source

My ideal setup is using 3 CDJs as controllers in advanced HID Mode, and using the DJM 900 Nexus or Xone DB4 mixer as the soundcard. That way if the CDJs come unplugged or turned off the sound won't stop

You can save the Audio settings in Traktor by going to Preferences - Export. So lets say I made a template for the inputs and output routings and even had custom layouts made and all my preferences configured, I could export these settings and send them to you.

@ 3:26 Actually is 512 samples. 512 milliseconds would be a very big delay. To all the DJs and musicians out there - Protect yourselves from continuous high noise levels. Do not exaggerate when setting the monitors's level. Keep them at the right distance, not too close to your ears. It can damage your hearing!

Yeah, the DJM 850 is also Traktor Scratch Certified so you have all of the same options as the DJM 900, minus maybe a few features on the mixer itself.

According to Pioneer the DJM 750 has DVS capabilities so it should work almost the same but I've personally never tried it. With the CDJ 850, the setup should work almost the same as well, except you can use HID mode. Check out my other video on the Dubspot KZbin on using HID mode with the new model of CDJs w/ Traktor

To configure the inputs and outputs you'll need to have access to a DJM 900 to initially configure everything. Once its all set up, all of your settings will stay the same each time you plug into another mixer.

If you have CDJ 2000, 2000 Nexus, 850's or 900's you can use what's called HID Mode. Check out my other video on the Dubspot youtube on how to do this. Its really the best way to use the CDJs with Traktor. With this mode you plug in the CDJs with USB and don't need timecode CDs. For older CDJ models you will need to use timecode CDs

If your using CDJ 900's or CDJ 2000's (or CDJ 2000 Nexus) you can use whats called HID Mode where you plug the CDJs in via USB and you don't need the timecode CDs. Check out my other video on this on the Dubspot youtube. If your using other models of CDJs then yes, you will need to use the timecode CDs

This may seem obvious - but how does this affect users on non-dvs systems - i.e. usb sticks or cds. For example someone djing b2b. I figure changing the channel selector per channel (from usb to cd/line/phone) will link to the appropriate device, but does disconnecting the computer from the mixer while someone else is mixing disrupt the signal at all?

I guess maybe you could use someones setup template if they were available. Traktor should perhaps make templates for each kind of setup on the pioneer so it's all done when you arrive.

One of the great things about the mixer is you can switch between different mediums really easily, for example you can switch between USB (Traktor), Digital (CDJs in Digital Mode), Line (Ableton, CDJ, Audio 8), CD, and Phono so you can basically have 3 or 4 DJs all set up on the same mixer and be able to switch seamlessly just by flicking the input selector switch

For time code - do you still need to load your time code cds into the cdj? If not - what mode do you use the cdj in to mimic scratch control?

the only problem, big problem, is that you have to reconfigure all again when you are just using with the s4 or s8 ... so maybe use record box for pioneer equipments and remain tractor for native instruments equipment

Hey Endo, great video! Been using Traktor and CDJ/DJM for a long time however a problem has always been bothering me, curious if you have a solution for this.... The DJM900 Beat FX can never stay within time/beat with Traktor tracks and quickly slips out. This happens whether I auto detect BPM and TAP manual.... have you had this issue as well? Thank you!

Actually its really not when you get in and set it up. It only takes one time setting it up, then everything is ready for each time you play. I made this video detailed so you can get all the facts without missing anything, but its really simple to set up.

I'm trying to get the DJM900nexus work as an output device with the newer OS X 10.10 Yosemite but it seems to be incompatible. Under mavericks everything still worked fine. The device is listed in the Audio MIDI Setup but all 8 channel are disabled. When I try to play a Track it does not start. I installed all latest driver and firmware but without success. Any suggestions?

Please help! I have 2X CDJ2000 connected to traktor, they work fine.when I plug in my DJM900 NXS the setting utilities shows up.when i go into traktor it will show DJM 900 in the audio setup, but nothing in the input or output routing. I am using traktor Pro 2 v.5.6.5 which is the latest. what am I doing wrong? Or Do I have to be using tractor "SCRATCH" pro?! Thanks in advance!

This is a bug actually that pioneer needs to address. You can't switch back and forth between the DJM 900 soundcard and CDJ soundcards. What you need to do is quit Traktor and relaunch it then it will work. Thanks for watching!

Yup! You would use the DJM 750 as the sound card and use the X1 as the controller. Just plug the DJM 750 directly into the computer and the X1 into the computer or USB Hub.

You do not need scratch pro to use the 900 as a soundcard.

You only need scratch pro if you want to use TIMECODE (Vinyl Scratch Control or CD TIMECODE control). If your using the CDJ as HID controllers or MIDI controllers and using the DJM 900 as the soundcard you don't need Scratch Pro. Traktor Pro will work just fine. :)

Endo hello Dj Endo thanks for the great tutorials and all the useful videos. .i have a couple of questions. . just got the nexus 900 and I'm having trouble setting it up with my traktor pro 2. i also have an x1 mk1 controller but I'm not quite sure how to sync it with the traktor and the nexus. . ill like to be able to use the nexus as my mixer and the x1 as the controller. . when i plug the mixer USB to the laptop the mixerfaders on the traktor dissapear but i can see the audio device as pioneer 900 nexus. i also tried updating the firmware but it gives me an error message . . not sure on what to do next. . any advices . . really was planning on this for a gig. .
