Yeah, I agree, his earlier roles were more oscar-worthy than The Revenant; all he did was crawl around in the snow for two hours and get into fights with animals. But this scene is just full of such presence and everything.

That's how Academy Awards work. Voters have no idea what they're doing so they just wait until the fans get pissy and they finally give the guy an Oscar 20 years later just because they have a new movie out and the voters "owed them one." Just like with Al Pacino in Scent of a woman

I've seen Leo's entire catalog several times over. The fact that he won the Oscar, for hands down his worst performance, bothers me so much. Truly does. People say the movie was good, im like, yeah, sure, he's never been in a bad movie, BUT compared to all his other work, it's the worst of his work by a mile. Leo wasn't gonna win any wards for this one as waltz having considerably more screen time and also having a hell of a performance, plus literally every other character in the film was spot on down to candy's accountant.

neon no, nor was I implying that in my opinion. As I am comfortable (still learning new things daily) in the entertainment industry myself, I’ve seen many incidents where actors may not like or wasn’t comfortable with the role itself but they make it work. DiCaprio stated that he was not comfortable playing the specific character at first, did he make it work? Most definitely, anything beyond this though in regards to how he felt with the roll I’m not too sure about( if he eventually got comfortable with it)
@KF22TV

neon I do understand what your saying, I was only making a point that I recalled DiCaprio speaking on the role in an interview & him saying at first I wasn’t too comfortable with it. Yeah of course he may have been willing to do it, but making those adjustments to get in character etc. may have been difficult for him is what I’m saying (going from the interview) . Regardless he did an exceptional Job like always. No issues with me on the film.

The acting in this scene is even more exceptional considering that Di caprio didn't mean to cut his hand, but when he realised he was bleeding he just went with it and Tarrentino decided to keep the scene because it worked so well. That piece of glass he pulls out of his finger at the end is really a piece of glass that was in his finger.

Partially false and true. He did cut his hands and they did decide to keep the scene, however, between cuts Leo did get his hand fixed. Leo's hand is fixed in the cuts after Broomhilda enters the scene and does not have any (real) glass in his hand or finger.

It's fake blood after it cuts away from the wide of the table to when Kerri is brought in. But he was in character during that wide shot. While I appreciate that he was in character all along, aren't actors supposed to do that? Hell, if I am not wrong, actors in Stanley Kubrick's films underwent way more agony to give their career-best performance. While I appreciate Leonardo's dedication, nothing to go gaga about. For instance, Weird Al put up one of his best performances immediately after the death of his parents and he responded stating that if his performances brought happiness to those suffering, maybe it would help him get through the dark phases too.

This is easily the greatest Acting performance by every single actor in the scene in the scene. You have Leo DiCaprio DiCaprio who despite severely injuring his hand never breaks character, then you have miss Washington who unprompted gets blood wiped in her face and again never breaks character, Christoph Waltz just being a master at his craft, and Jamie Fox putting his best foot forward in a tough role. The blood that he wiped on her was fake blood. He did legitimately cut his hand when he slammed it on the table and he stayed in character, but Tarantino called a cut before Kerry came into the room so that they could treat Leo's hand, at which point he suggested smearing blood on Washington's face, to which Washington and Tarantino agreed to, so they got some fake blood. He wasn't going to wipe real blood on her face due to concerns with infection and the glass shards that may have still been embedded in his hand.

I would say, even Samuel L. Jackson did an exceptional job with his character. When Django blows him up in the end, you are actually happy to see him get blown to teeny bits and roasted in fire at the same time. Throughout the movie you grow to dislike his character, and think that he could undermine his own people just to get something else for himself. He was greedy and didn't care if another black person was hurt if it meant he wouldn't get treated like he did by Calvin. His role was just as chilling as Leo's. I agree that Leo really outdid himself in this film. He and Samuel were as bad as you could imagine, and then would surprise you more with their self serving behavior. Fine piece of work for them both.

I have seen this scene tons of times and each times i am in awe about the AMAZING acting skills and talent displayed by each one of the actors here, simple spectacular, Leo should have got an oscar for this! so perfect acting, could not be better, Samuel is awesome too, same as Foxx, Ms. Kerry Washington and the fantastic Christopher Waltz, all under the baton of Quantin Tarantino. Such an amazing talent in just 1 scene is in itself incredible. we love this scene, enjoy it enormously, BRAVO!!!

The calibre of actors in this film was insane, so too the acting. Di Caprio is one of the greatest actors alive, Titanic, Inception, Revenant and this. I know I'm missing loads more but that was just off top of my head and some actors will dine out on a performance of 1 of those movies for their entire career while Leo has multiple.
