As someone who hunted Ducks in S.Louisiana( Cameron Parrish), this area is considered, "Sub-Tropical" which is warm compared to the rest of our country but water is a Killer ! Yes to the waders during the winter & the human body temp is 98.6 degrees so if ya are put into 90 degree water you'll have core temperature problems after 18-20 hours. A lot of people die at 24 hrs when water is 85-90 degrees so "cold" is a relative term & people who fell overboard die from exposure in water we consider warm but is lower than our body temp = we go into shock BUT hey, that cooler winter water keeps the alligators lethargic so they don't bite our arses...... stay safe/warm >> peace

Rule of thumb for MOST boat trailers. It goes in until the fenders are JUST under water. Most of the time, that's perfect. Not all of them follow this rule but every boat I've owned, this has served me well. And for F's sake, don't leave your props engaged and walk away from the controls!! Had an argument with my wife about how far the trailer goes in once.....had her watch your channel and a couple others and haven't heard a word since! 🤣

You are right, bigtoyota. The only time it is acceptable to leave the helm while the drive is in gear is if you are power loading alone. You must be centered on the trailer, and the engine must be at fast idle, max. Then you can go to the bow to hook up the winch strap.

I've left the helm with the boat in gear a few times, when you solo it you sometimes need to. I don't like to do it, but I don't know why some people freak out about doing that.

You should offer a "hands on" class to these folks teaching 1. Backing up a trailer 2. How far to back into the water 3. How to load the boat onto the trailer 4. Teach the concept of how much space it takes to steer a boat (purpose/ function of the keel) You could make enough money to buy that second camera! Great videos.

Big Dan! These occasional pleasure boat slippers are horrible when trying to trailer their boats in windy conditions. They don’t realize that they have to make their approach from the upwind side and let the wind push their vessel across while lining up their vessel when pulling up onto the trailer. When they approach from the downwind side they will always fight the wind and end up being cockeyed on the trailer. It’s a wonder that they don’t have even more gel coat repairs. The term “Cockeyed” originally meant “Drunk!”Thanks for posting! 😉

Alabama rule you only need a 12 inch winch so if you dont succeed power loading all the way to the keel stop you back up and try again and again and again, forget what most do trailer in to the fenders, center the boat on the bunks power load if needed then winch the rest of the way. I dont see any of them doing this. They all have to power load all the way to the keel.

This comment is for new boaters. When loading your boat, the trailer tire fender covers should be just under the water. Any deeper than that and you'll never get her out of the water. You should see part of your front bunks sticking out of the water. This not only allows you to see where to be aiming the bow of the boat, but also aligns the ass end when you get the front on the trailer.

I sware they need alarms on trailers that go off when you go to deep if your rear end is floating off the trailer your to deep bunks serve two perpeses one to gide you on and to hold you there i follow the rule bunk's 1/3 out of the water to start with then go from there sometimes there is an exception to the rule with some boats but learn your boat and trailer so you don't make the same mistakes each time i get in the each time i load my ski but i follow that same rule and pull it on as far as i can and wench it on the rest of the way and its straight every times if not i would say your bunks need ajusted now if i was not by myself i would drive the ski on or i had a boat i would Drive it on because a boat is bigger and is not as easy to pull on and off !
