Never stop learning. I've been DJing for over 15 years and I'm always learning from the DJs that came before me and the ones that came after.

**About requests** I used to DJ at a popular club, and a nice way of taking requests was with a pen+paper for ppl to WRITE DOWN their requests on. 1. It doesn't interrupt your mixing by having to talk to drunk ppl 2. You can easily sort out which requests are good or not 3. It allows you to keep the paper after the event to review which requests worked well.
@NonnyStrikes
@NonnyStrikes 8 ай бұрын
EXACTLY. You can add spice to it by having a light up magic marker board. I usually put "requests here, love you guys! Try to keep it to 1 song per half hour for my mental health" etc. You can do anything... just be creative. Even promote future events, like the upcoming new year party!

'Take some requests' saved an event sometime... drunken guy comes around and asks for a song and since no one was dancing, I played it for them...and boy oh boy... the crowd raptured into dance...didn't leave that genre for hours and the crowd didn't stop dancing for hours.

a great dj takes request, those request make my gigs easier and with over 10 years in the business I have maintained a 5 star business rating across the board.

When I DJ I use my phone for one thing - finding and playing tracks that aren't in my library. Just make sure it's set to Do Not Disturb.

Love this post. And I love and do everything you mentioned on your list. Something I’ve been seeing with DJs in my area and even myself at one point, is we fall into a runt. Playing the same songs, doing the same thing at every event. You get boarded with your DJ job. That’s when you need to step back and start changing things up for each event. Make it fresh and new every time. Using your 11 suggestions is a great starting point. Keep putting out the content!

Everything you've said in this video is facts...as a open format DJ myself if someone comes up to me requesting ABBA Dancing Queen (100 BPM) when I'm playing Dancehall like romping shop (86 BPM) I just let them know politely that I'll work my way up to that BPM range then I'll mix it in & play some 80's hits... or if you want me to play it next... it's £100 to mix it at the end of the song I'm playing now!

BRO I discovered the cutting method of scratching by watching DJCarlo. I kept wondering why he was using the crossfader to cut while cutting. When I finally got it...the world changed. That's part of the practice of anything..... until you get it. Never over-complicate it. Especially for a club you are in-house dj for. They'll pick up on it quick asf. I have become known for my stutters. I use roll's in a lot of these 80bpm songs you're talkin about.... and they love it, same as myself. My favorite trick I've done.... was 100% a risk ha. But instead of playing the intro regularly, I slowly turned the disc and right as the end of the intro happened, I reversed it all the way back so the intro played clean. SUCH a crazy reaction!

On the Open Format DJ note: if you're playing music that you're not passionate about, won't that affect your mix? Like how do you know if it's a good mix if you're not feeling the music in it?

i try and post something every day either a full length mix or a mash up or remix of a track i like but absoloutly everything i post on yt gets a copyright strike at best at worst the full thing is taken down, atleast soundcloud have stopped doing it they havent taken any of my stuff down in a couple of years. but what pisses me off the most is other djs filing copyright claims against my channel, its almost like they dont want me playing their music too the public just incase i make money out of it and its not like i'm trying too pass their work off as my own i always tag the artists of the tracks that i'm using and usually put the full names of the tracks in the description. with speaking too other djs i always make a point of talking too the djs when i'm out clubbing wether it be about the music they are playing the set up they're using were they buy their music what labels they like.

I recently got back into DJ’n and I practice mostly on the weekends. When I’m practicing I just create a vibe off of what I’m feeling and not necessarily a set. Should I be trying to create a set and practice that set or just keep creating a vibe off the top of the dome?
