Went from the RB DMX 1 & An XP1 for control to the wolf with my XZ in standalone. This is the way forwards 10/10 product. If anyones panicked about the movers in the video leaning to one side it's bc he had the position on the left and not the centre on the move page. (I have a video of my Rig being controlled by the W1 on my channel) I'm a relative DMX dummy and I've had amazing results out of this. Fantastic device!

Wow! This thing looks awesome! I absolutely could have used this a few years back when I was getting into dmx. I still may get one in future, depending on the state of world of course. It looks to be about as plug and play as you can get. Combine that with the level of functionality and the features it offers, you would really struggle to find something similar at this price point, without deep diving into which midi controller and software will work as a lighting desk (even then, you’d need a laptop). Anyone who has looked into getting their own standalone lighting desk with any decent functionality will know this is definitely a great option. Very surprised, and actually very stoked to see something this capable at that price point. Thanks for reviewing this!

Salutations, Mojaxx! I presently use SoundSwitch for my lighting system. Whether that be with Engine Lighting, or Standalone Mode with a Laptop. I use the Control One and Micro DMX interface interchangeably depending on lighting applications. I use the Micro DMX interface with my labeled Akai Pro APC mini for dedicated fader control for Groups, and as well as being able to manipulate positions and colors at the same time. I use the Control One with Engine Lighting which I have been loving since its been out! Looking at this standalone unit you’re reviewing, I’m most certainly intrigued by it! It reminds me of a micro lighting console, minus the faders and whatnot. But something I would be interested to possibly try out in the near future!

Should be receiving this unit after a short wait of a month here in New York where it seems purchasing anything these days takes a bit to get. I’m a fan straight away because it is not dependent on a computer making it a quick and simple way of adding and controlling fixtures. Although it has BPM detection, would like the option of plugging into your dj laptop or direct into standalone dj units and running off of the dj software for bpm accuracy ( if possible). I originally started with soundswitch and was put off by having to do all the foot work especially for moving heads. They have over time added presets and a hardware controller option but still like the freedom and independence of the Wolf. Looking forward to this unit and will retire soundswitch for use with my studio lighting. As always your review gave me enough info to pull the trigger on this purchase. Cheers !

New to DMX, got this bad boy and love it! I have some movers, wash/beams, uplighting, creating scenes with the visualizer is actually super easy for me instead of setting up all this stuff. So when I set it all up, most of the work is already done, I just need to tweak a couple items. Also, that DMX IN/WLINK I found a sweet DMX foot pedal that can trigger the presets, next/previous, so as a solo musician or 2/3 piece, I can essentially automate my songs with various scene changes to match the song, this thing is wonderful!

Thanks for your thoughts Brent I’m on the fence about getting this. I’ve been reading that it doesn’t do a good job of moving heads. It doesn’t sound like that’s been your experience?
@brentcurtis511 ай бұрын
I only have 2 movers, the ones from Shehds. It was a little tricky to get the correct Fixture Profile, but once I was able to get that, the movers worked perfectly for me. Zoning the parameters, Setting up preset locations, i.e., Center Point, Ceiling, whatever, and changing scenes and having them automate to the next position. Also using the 'Live Edit' gives you more freedom with isolating 1 or more to different locations. It would be neat to add some lasers and do all that magic, but I'm fairly positive this does not do those very well or at all.... So there's that. @@TheZenithphoenix

Great video indeed. I looked at the most Wolfmix video's now and still have the following questions before buying: 1) Now I have two seperate dmx-controllers so 2 universes. I read there are 2 universes standard on the Wolfmix so it seems I can do same thing, so both running their own preset independently BUT can I also address them both by 1 Flash key for example? 2) what about gobo, prism, and their rotation (directions), are they also be saved into each preset or only functional with Live Edit? 3) what about manual movement? Sometimes I need one (of my two) moving heads as a followspot, do I need to set each MH in one group seperately to be able to move only one MH and not the two together? Thank you, Dirk

in my beginning I used Freestyler on my DJ Laptop. After a vew years I switched to DASlight on a touch-laptop, with sometimes using a korg nanocontrol. Currently I am looking for an update. Either Wolfmix or SoundSwitch. What I like: WM has the "touch-and-feel" with buttons and knobs but SoundSwitch is a "once-setup-and-forget" solution. What I don't like with SS: there is so much programming needed to start...

While this definitely has a place in the market for the set and forget DJ/LJ, I still lean toward Soundswitch with the Control One. Having completely customized, unique shows, per song really appeals to me. However!!.. For those moving to standalone controllers and ditching the laptops, this is a no brainer. This is a spot on piece of kit for their intended market and I can't say a single bad thing about it.

functionally... there are things i don't like that might not matter so much to others: [1.] color effects and effect speeds are global; you cannot set different effects between fixture groups. [2.] with fixtures that employ LED colors in addition to RGB such as Amber / White / UV / Lime (*cough* ADJ) etc., color accuracy becomes hit-or-miss. this is also the case between manufacturers of cheap LED products, where RGB channels at full value don't produce an accurate looking white. [3.] as is the problem with daslight/compushow/mydmx, a bad fixture profile can be a hindrance to functionality, so there is a chance you'll need to bust out your product manuals and learn how to create fixture profiles. [4.] strobe / blind / wolf effects are pre-programmed effects that relies on the DMX traits of your fixture profile, and these effects also cannot be isolated to specific fixture groups.

looks like the AutoLoop/StaticLook functionality of SoundSwitch but missing the scripted tracks. although might be much easier to set up / design those loops in real time with knobs rather than draw them on with a mouse. or not.
@Mojaxx2 жыл бұрын
Obviously I do love Soundswitch, mostly for that scripted track functionality. Where it falls down, though, is that if you aren’t able to use the scripted tracks - say I’m performing with Traktor, playing a vinyl set, playing a lot of tracks from Beatsource LINK, or with another DJ who doesn’t use Soundswitch - then all you have to work with is the 32 Autoloops. Whereas a solution like this has 100 presets, and all the live FX to work with on top. Ultimately they are just very different approaches to lighting, and both have their own strengths.
@MrCalebgrayson2 жыл бұрын
@@Mojaxx thanks! i use SS with Traktor via MIDI Clock so i can use Auto Master Deck and then i just Shift+Play to reset the Cue to the beginning of the phrase. if i could only get real integration with SS and Traktor i’d leave Serato and my MCX8000 and use my S8 exclusively. i just don’t like using multiple platforms but can’t do all the tricks i love on anything other than the S8. and Beat-Link is so much better implemented in Traktor than any other platform. love mixing my locker and steam tracks into any playlist. i bet SS will implement more of those WolfMix features but not the advanced controller.

Wolfmix gives you eight groups to categorize your fixtures in any way you like. However, each fixture can only be assigned to one of the eight groups. When programming either static settings or dynamic effects, you actively choose which groups are affected by each setup or effect. The controller has three types of effects: color, motion, and beam, whose parameters can be preset and/or modified in real time. Again, you actively choose which groups are affected by each of the three effects engines. However, only one color, one motion, and/or one beam effect can be activated at any point in time.
