Really cool piece of equipment, I love that Pioneer introduced the 4 band EQ to go along with expanding to a 6 track mixer. Makes sense if you think about expanding to something that will already cost so much, throw in that 4th band. I learned to mix on a DJM 450 but when I tried mixing on a xone with that second mid it changed the game IMO, probably because I mix techno and house mostly but I think it's a huge difference in the ability to shape your sounds. Also full kill, love that! I'll stick with my Xone 96 though, but excited to see this start to show up in clubs and hopefully get a chance to try this bad boy out. Great review!

I'd be very happy with this replacing the 900nxs2 as an install. Although for my home setup I'd probably buy a high end rotary, Model1, or FF6.2L if I had $3200 knocking around.

@@happens4656 I feel that for sure. It's never going to win over a lot of hardcore rotary/analogue heads, or indeed turntablists, for their own use. I'm having a particular love affair with the Xone 96 myself right now. But judging this as a club install mixer, the combo of flexibility and quality here is unsurpassed today. IMO.

Dead on review: best mixer on the planet. This is truly a leap forward in mixers and a new evolution in mixers where that has live remix capabilities. I had a Pioneer DJM-1000, the best built mixer Pioneer ever made. Back when it was 4,200.00. I was about to purchase Xone-96 and Pioneer RMX-1000. Overall, that was best combination for 6-channels and an effects processor. Love the feel of the Xone-96 channel faders, as well. Then, this was released. I've owned the DJM V10 for 3 months. Initially, it's a very intimidating mixer. After a week, I finally understood what did what. However, it's going to be months to fully comprehend its potential. You can layer effects, on top of effects. The number of permutations with sculpting sounds on the V10 is beyond vast. As in, I've created sounds that I haven't been able to recreate again. Yes, you can tweak that much on this mixer. The one factor I think most reviews haven't really delved into is the internal send features. It's complicated on how it works, initially. You can create choir like effects because you can duplicate one track into the other 5 channels and EQ and add additional layers of effects to each channel (beat effects, send effects, external effects, and filters). That alone has absurd potential. That's what most people will never realize about this mixer. You can have two CDJ's and still use all 6 channels in terms of effects with the send features. I've played on the Model-1, while it has that "phat" sound, I don't need features like external power supply, balanced mix bus, linking two mixers, dual power supplies, D-subs ins/outs... all great features but I have no utility for that level of connectivity. The best way to sum up the DJM V10 = Xone 96 + DJM 900NXS2 + RMX-1000. Best mixer I've ever owned. I miss my Pioneer DJM-1000, especially the sliding fader knobs (I wish Pioneer would adopt that in their mixers). But I haven't had a piece of machinery that has gotten me to mixing for 4 hours per day for 3 months straight... ever. I'm back, baby!

@They Caged Non progressive house, progressive breaks, and ambient. No sir, you're not creating just noise. If you know how to use effects you can really add layers of sound that follows in sync with the original material. I will give you a prime example of what this mixer can do. Suppose you have a vocal and you loop it. With the send feature, you can send that vocal to the 5 other channels. What can you do with that one vocal (or any sound from a channel)? Channel-1: add send-delay to vocal on normal EQ settings. Channel-2: add a beat echo to the vocal. Channel-3: add send delay, remove mids and highs on EQ setting on the vocal, Channel-4: add LPF with send-delay on the vocal. Channel-5: add send dalay and focus on mids with an external effect. With one vocal, I've just created a small 6 voice chorus of layering with 5 distinct vocals sourced from the original vocal in real time. I can understand how you can come to the conclusion of just adding noise. I would have thought the same as well. It took me over 2 months to even realize understand these parameters on this mixer. However, you really have to understand the full spectrum of each of the individual effects. In addition, you can cross the effects to add more layering of sounds. I'm in no way saying I understand the full capabilities of this mixer. Which I don't, but I know there's so much possibility with the layering of sounds. In the cases with tech house, suppose you have a very minimal sounding track. If you know how to use send effects (separate from beat effects) you can layer complexity of a simple beat with delay and dub echo. Ellaskins does this in one of his videos. Where he makes a simple beat sound a lot richer. What other mixer on the market allows for this level of flexibility? I'm asking because I've played on the Model-1 and Xone-96 and a Rane MP2015 and none of those mixers have the capabilities as a STAND ALONE mixer on what the DJM V10 can do. Let me be clear again. Up to this point, I preferred the Xone-96.

@They Caged Non your first statement is very curious. "Just play the original track." I'm not doubting anything you've said about you being a DJ for that long. I've been DJing close to 20 years myself. That being said, once you've truly mastered an effect in terms of knowing how to control resonance, tone, and it's time/beat parameter teaches the diversity of the effects capabilities in manipulating sound. When I 1st started DJing, I would have agreed with you completely: just play the original track. However, when producers are making tracks, they use effect processors and effect modulations to create new sounds, as well. Now that I've become a novice, when I hear tracks, from classically trained artist, like BT or Hybrid, I hear the delay, echo, reverb, tremolo, and so forth. They're using the same effects in their original productions. How is that any different? Let me be clear, personally, I hate to "hear" effects when a DJ is playing. Again, I agree, it takes away from the original track. A very skilled DJ knows how to use effects to the point that it's seamless. In other words, to the point, whether I don't know whether the track is an edit or an obscure remix. Effects and modulation only become powerful when done right and a lot of DJ's have not taken the time to learn what works. However, in today's climate of DJing is evolving. DJ's no longer have to worry about beat matching because the SYNC button on their software or CDJ's. They don't have to worry about knowing their music, as well because they there waveforms to rely on. They don't have to worry about counting their bars or phrases because they have counters on their software or CDJ's. This overall, has made many DJ's very lazy and the art of mixing, in many respects is being lost. On the other hand, this has freed up many DJ's into utilizing samplers, drum machines, and effects processors. Thus, overall DJ is beginning to blur into live production with the most talented players. Personally, I don't utilize effects or get technical with 3 minutes of mixing in tracks in a crowd. There's no need for that the majority of the time. Yes, you're playing to what the crowd wants so I agree with you there. They could care less and don't even have technical expertise to even know what's going on. The only time effects come into play is for build ups in utilizing delays or echos. Well, unless, you're a DJ like James Zabiela or Sasha or you're playing at an underground venue that caters to "real" techno where your audience likes producers like Pan-Pot or Luigie Acidmachine. Overall, this mixer, personally, is for doing complex mixing at home or in the studio or unless you're DJ with exceptional talent in effects and live production. If I were a DJ, and saw a DJM V10, I would advise a DJ to only use the beat effects, if that. All of the other parameters take time to learn. In addition, the majority of DJ's I've spoken to already are using the V10 with instrumentation, beat effects, and so forth. DJ's who are very technical on their sets and cater to a more underground sounds. This is evident with the V10 levels of inputs and outputs. Again, I've never seen a mixer with this level of capability. This is an evolution of a mixer that is catering to live production which will require a mastery.

As far as the effects of delay, echo, and so forth... well, if you can't don't know what those effects do to vocals, there are plenty of videos on that.

But you seem to more of the purest DJ in terms of rotary mixers and privy to that phat analog sounds. In other words, if you had a choice between a Pioneer DJM-1000 (world's 1st all digital 24/32 bit mixer) vs Allen & Heath V6 (completely analog with dedicated hard circuitry), you would choose the V6 everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. Mind you these mixers were both above $4,000.00 when they were released. What type of music do you play... I'm assuming you're a house or tech-house DJ? Overall, I understand your point. I agree with you, for the most part. I agree, using effects, for most DJ's many times takes away from the music. However, there are those DJ's that know how to utilize effects, drum machines, and so forth that are able to create something new. At this level of competency and mastery, it can really make you stand out. Listen to the first 6 minutes of James Zabiela mix on DJ Mag without looking at the video. He proves the points of implementing effects to the point of being seamless. It's like listening a remix of track. Hey @erwinschrodinger64 just got one. Had only one chance to mix al day but definitively the send fx to channels are a beauty. Im also incorporating my old RMX1000 so I have a shitload of fx to work with... im using channels 5 & 6 as returns for send and rmx respectively. Im having a hard time mastering the send fx as the time parameter seems to be unsynced from the master time, therefore shifting pitches / time in a weird way. Im loving it this mixer a lot!!

It is interesting that Pioneer uses the ESS 9016 Sabre DAC chip which is very low , most commercial DACs have a ESS9038Pro and one per channel , the 9016 is a very old chip ( 2013 release ) THD , SNR , noise floor etc are not up to current standards. Even the Chinese can achieve 0.0005% THD and SNR around 120dB or higher. Seeing that DJMs are use in very high output environment - you would expect focus on noise fl., THD , SNR etc.

Yeah, the CDJ's seem like stone age tech compared to the sc6000 and even the sc5000, but this mixer is incredible, and totally blows the x1850 out of the water, but costs 3x more

Honestly i thought the same thing at first but when I actually got my hands on one and mixed on it... I noticed that since the HI and LOW bands of the EQs are full isolators - I didn’t need both filters at once, because just the EQs pack a lot of cutting power. Then the smooth full range filter on each channel and the 3 band isolator on the master were icing on the cake. It actually feels nice to be able to just slam the filter to the hard left to be fully open too.

Mojaxx: Looks like an optional/side product that was designed at first for the Live/Undergrounds DJ (dubfire, JorisVoorn, luciano... etc...) but was released and labeled has mainstream to fill that categorie to be sure they have something mainstream to show because they come up with nothing this year at NAMM while Denon have a full line of dj/mixer players for mainstream. I would not be surprised if at that time they planned to show their new prototypes of XDJ 2000 Nexus players and mixers at the end of the NAMM to be sure they have the best DJ media players and mixer that year but cancel those plan when they see those new prototypes DenonDJ come up that surpassed a lot with so more features their next XDJ/CDJ & Mixer Nexus line at affordable price. I remember everyone Online waiting until the end of Namm to see the Pioneer presentation thinking they will show the new Nexus line... - XDJ-XZ standalone dissapointed release that was make with old parts of old nexus line (I think they could have outdone it because they fabricated it way too early before Prime4 released or as a deseperate move for saving $$$) this is why I am sure this is related...

Venomynous yes, this is my setup... I love that the 96 can send pre-fader too on one of the sends. Can get the rmx’s effected version back in on a channel and can even cross fade between the effected and the original when I want. Slight timing offset when doing that due to the digital conversion in and out of the rmx, but for cutting in and out quick it’s not noticeable, just when blended it sounds like a flanger effect going on. I had the V10 first and it’s nice... Might get it again sometime. But really shameful they didn’t allow for low and high pass on each channel. Another biggie - can only send to all the insert effects as a group... so each channel will have the same effects! Unlike the 96 where you can send to 1 and 2 independently for each channel.

Agreed, its a lot of money i looked at getting one but i cant really justify it. its a big heavy brute as well! I use 3nxs2s,(looking dated now with the 3000s) an A&H xone 62, and various effects (rmx1000, efx1000/500 chaos pad) to have much of the functionality of the v10 (6ch, 4band eq effect sends) + some analog warmth, the A&H also has long faders, which i like as it gives me more precise control of mixes- something pioneer has now emulated in the v10LF, in fact the v10 is very A&H-ish in its design

i hired V10 at the start of the lockdown and just didn't like the sound it made playing vinyl just like the 900 nxs2. It does sound amazing when hooked up to digital players and the 3 band isolator is class. After this mixer went back I hired a Xone 96 and ended up buying one a week later.

@@juliocruzjr.5307 yeah I did the compression and it did improve the sound of my old vinyl. But I just found the Xone to give a better sound without compression. The V10 is a great mixer just not worth splashing nearly 3 grand on for home use. but It's definitely an improvement over the 900NXS2 but not much and the nxs2 is still overpriced. the V10 reminds me of my old Korg zero 8 and I would rather have the zero 8 over the V10. if only korg would bring a new one out that would be great but unfortunately Pioneer DJ have put a end to that and driven to many good mixer brands out of business.

Firstly, this mixer isn't for me. Second, and the real reason I'm making this post: get an overkill mixer if you can. I had a 92 for eleven years. I then picked up a 96 and it was a BIG jump. A couple months ago I jumped on Formula Sound Direct's sale and picked up an FF6.2L. In a word: WOW. Not as flexible as a 96, I honestly think of the 6.2 as a Xone92 taken to its logical conclusion. The sound quality... OH, the sound quality. And the SUMMING. I like my mixers big and analog, and I'm in heaven with the FF6.2L. A go on one of these (V10) would likely be fun, sure, but Formula Sound has me super spoiled at the moment.

The Formula Sound FF6.2 is an amazing mixer, in another league compared to this digital Pioneer. Congrats on the purchase ! I own a xone 92, but i'm also thinking of switching to a Formula Sound, purely for sound quality playing vinyl. These digital mixers are a scam, they never hold their value in time, but they trick people with loads of FX, functions and deliver this ultra clear digital sound that is just FAKE and inferior. The DJ scene shifted it's focus from music to FX toys, digital sound, abusing the FX instead of delivering amazing music.

When Pioneer DJ made the DJM 2000/Nexus that was aimed at the Honors students so to speak, that's why it was so niche. This however, is still AP Calculus, but as long as you've taken a 101 course (any DJM since the 600) you should be fine! What this mixer shows is why Pioneer DJ has been and continues to be the club standard for some 15 years now!

Having owned one for a few weeks now, it’s a great mixer and not an overkill. Having various routing options and the ability to send fx to different channels is useful. The only thing I’ve found odd is the RCA inputs sound noticeably brighter than digital inputs on cdjs. Basically digital inputs sound slightly flat compared to a NXS2 900. Playing vinyl through this mixer is vastly improved from a NXS2 also.

Mojaxx thank you so much for the V-10’s best review by far since nobody else was bothered to mention analog source and you’ve started with exactly that. Hat off!!! Pioneer improved their analog preamps (the XDJ-XZ has decent analog preamps) but I still feel for this amount of money, you need the best possible sound quality, I would have created 2 different circuit to separate analog from digital (just like A&H did) Shame!

question about the eq on each channel. from a different review it was discovered that it's not a full cut to infinity on the bottom EQ knob. It only cuts 20hz to infinity which is not really a full cut since speakers really don't go that low. So the cut is some kind of curb cut and makes the bass sound like it's bleeding when fully cut. Methinks this may be a bug but wanted to see if you saw the same.

Guys…help me decide between V10 and Model1 full analog. I’m on buy button and is a very hard choice to make. I’m ready for Model1 with an external audio interface Antelope Zen Tour Synergy Core. I’ll play traktor and ableton with this setup. Soo …i can see the power of V10 with integrated sound card and the FX it looks everything you need…also the cloub standard but otherwise i feel like it has no soul ….still thinking at Model1. Can you please help me with some ideas …i’m thinking about the 4band EQ from V10 vs sculpting thing from Model1 and filters… do we have better control on mixing with the 4band? If not i think i’ll go with Model1 …

Great review as always! I'd like to get some opinions if possible... currently I have 2 CDJ2000NXS + DJM 2000NXS, I'm looking to upgrade to the CDJ3000NXS. Which mixer is "better" the DJM-V10 or the DJM Tour 1? I have loved my DJM 2000NXS. Sound quality is important to me. I like the screen and the onboard network card of the Tour 1, but I also love the compressor on the V10. I'll pair with either CDJ3000s or CDJ Tour 1s but really want to know what people think of the combo options...

@@jgcamil thanks for the reply. I suspected so. I'm annoyed there isn't' a more direct replacement for the DJM2000NXS I love it so much. For me, if the V=10 had a network card in the back and a 3-way EQ instead of 4-way, I'd buy it immediately! The sheer ease of setting up the DJM2000NXS at parties is fantastic, turn up, plug into the relevant port, off we go. Solid as hell and everyone can use it instantly... I also worry that on the V-10 in a dark room people will think the bottom pot is bass and so two up is treble... but it's not of course. Any other thoughts, much appreciated...

Thanks for the review! Looks promising! I'm hesitating between Module 1 / Xone:96 DJ mixer / and this. This looks like it's got all the features i need. So if i'm not mistaking it's also an audio interfase? Will be able to route for example channel 1-3 to Ableton and 3 -6 to Serato. So i can create a dj / live set? What about the send and returns can they go true some Ableton effects?

I've DB4 it's 2 years..I'm going to buy V10 to keep it at home using DB4 for gigs, for me it's best option around.. I'll plug 2 turntables + 2 CDJs in V10 keeping 2 channels left as Built In effects

Hey, great review. I'm considering this for a hybrid setup (an SC, octatrack, keyboard, sax - I need some FX + maybe some artistic expansion ;)... !!! ). I notice you can direct the internal FX directly to the master, so I want to ask if you can send external FX returns directly to the master output also? I guess I'm wondering if this can be used as a 6+3 channel mixer really? (i.e.by routing the 1,2,IO return channels without the use of a standard channel) thanks!

This mixer is excellent... I just wish the eqs were full kill, vs only minus 26 db for the mids. Coming from a rotary, I used to work my out going track out with the eq, vs using the volume pots. Also,Vinyl sounds amazing on this mixer, vs the older djm mixers.

If you come from the rotary you should know that real rotary djs don’t use eq to mix, hence the ars 4100 urei 1620 the real bozak.. just sayin

I have a Zoom F6 to record my mixes. This recorder only uses XLR inputs. However, the V10 mixer only has RCA for record out. What do you recommend for me to use (cable wise) to record from this mixer to my recorder? Gonna use to record at home not at a venue. Was thinking Mogami RCA to XLR. Not sure though. I use an f6 to record my mixes in 96khz from my A&H xone 62 (surprizingly similar to the v10, 6ch 4band eq effect sends) & cdjnxs2s, if its just for recording you could use the main outputs of the v10 with balanced xlr jacks at each end (& use the booth out for your monitors, obviously) or the f6 has combi inputs (xlr/1/2 inch jack) so you could just plug the record out of tge v10 into the f6 using jacks anyway

Mojaxx I realized after watching this video and how you demonstrated the send reruns to the extra channels, that I could still use that feature with my rmx 1000 by over dubbing the roll feature and assigning the loop to an extra channel from there just like the 900nxs2! Thank you!

MP2015 and X1700 still sound better, which is curious because those both have isolators in the channel paths at all times, but at least the DJM-V10 isn't quite as synthetic or especially as bloated sounding as the DJM-900NXS2. While the DJM-V10 isn't quite as analog-sounding as the digital Xone DB4 or an actual analog mixer, it's an interesting happy medium like halfway between the sound of the DJM-900Nexus/DJM-2000Nexus and the dry-sounding X1800, but with hybrid tone controls closer to the Xone 92/96. Surprised that they abandoned the variable trim-gain system on their analog inputs they've had since the DJM-800/DJM-1000 and finally perfected the monitoring of on the DJM-900NXS2/DJM-Tour1, and have now instead adopted the same type of analog input system as Numark, Denon, and Rane. I hate the DJM-2000-style dry-wet filter knobs and the way the settings for it are shared across the channels. Should be frequency based and independent. Lame for such a supposedly powerful mixer. Dithering is also not some special thing, by the way. It's just noise to cover up quantization distortion due to changing bit depths from 64bit DSP to 32bit DACs. If you have music playing already and it's not just something like a single triangle clanging against a black digital background, it has no benefit and only adverse consequences. Basically, dither is just necessary when doing bit depth conversions on hardware if you want it to measure cleanly when no music is playing.

No more noise. If you have an rmx1000 you’ll have the noise effect there. Space and slip roll are also gone. Filters are hp or lp on the individual channels themselves or the master.

@@Judasz696 I went from a xone 92 to Model 1. My friend has a xone 96, it’s an excellent mixer but Model 1 is next level. He gets regular sound drop outs on the 96 sound card which he has never got to the bottom of. I use a Traktor audio 10, never missed a beat. My friend plugs his kit in the Model 1 with an Traktor audio 6 to play back to back and works fine. The channels all melt together perfectly, impossible to go wrong!

The first thing I looked at was to see if it had multiple Ethernet ports. That's a BIG let down. Always a pain in the ass trying to find a place to put the Hub. Especially for a neat OCD guy like me. This is like when Pioneer left out post effect on the DDJ SZ. Plus the vertical isolator. Didn't like it on the DJM 1000 either.

The mixer was more focus on producers that use alot more laptop and Xone. I honestly cannot see majority of clubs using this mixer, when majority of DJs only use two channels. This would show up at festivals, ones where producers would use all channels. Cool effects though,

Back in the 1000 days the internet wasn’t as big as it is now. Sure, it was there but not to the extent that it is today so of course you didn’t see that much marketing. I went to Pacha in London in 2011 and it’s the only time i’ve ever seen a 1000 in the wild. The 2000 on the other hand. If i recal correctly Pioneer marketed the 2000 as their new flagship mixer but people weren’t buying them. People still stuck to their 800’s until the 900 came. The lesson to be learned here is i guess you don’t mess with what people are used to. ”If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”?

DJM 1000 is a six channel mixer. First gent Six channel. DJM 2000 is four channel. SVM-1000 4 channels was a great mixer as well.

PioneerDJ couldn't handle the fact better analogue mixers (Xone 96 and Model 1) are dominating the techno scene... so the design team rehashed a bunch of half-baked ideas from those superior mixers and made a bloated monstrosity. Get ready for when PioDJ discontinues this mixer in a year or introduces a $7000+ "DJM V10 Nexus 2" that will have built-in lasers and a smoke machine.
