The "fool" in the title was actually his younger sister, who'd just gone through a bad breakup/divorce if I recall correctly. That said, this is the version I prefer to his later re-recording, which I find lacking in comparison. As always, masterful work from DJDIscoCat.

The second version was nice, but for those of us who heard this version first it remains the definitive version. "New Light Through Old Windows" was the title of the greatest hits which I understood to mean re-recorded. It was a success on the Adult Contemporary radio "On The Beach" got to #9 AC, pretty impressive! That means the next generation heard the second version and that one will be imprinted on them. But I choose "On The Beach", it is well paced and grooving, laid back and sonorous....the last song is uplifting "Crack That Mold" and listen to the entire album. Oh and thanks for the compliment!

In 1978 I was 11 yrs old and heard this song a lot on the radio as well. It didn't hurt that my sister had it on vinyl and played it a lot also. While our parents were still at work and we'd come in after school, she would put this on the stereo she be doing the dishes and I would dust the furniture as we listened to it. We had fun during this time (one of the few times that we didn't argue or fight with each other LoL), just listening, no talking, and getting our work done. I miss those days, I don't get to see my sister very much anymore because we're on opposite sides of the country but do still talk quite a bit on the phone and will play the "Remember When" game...still fun times together when we can....without the arguing or fighting LoL.

I played this song over and over when my husband passed away this past May 2023, (I heard it while I was in the grocery store). He and I both loved this song, we grew up in the 70's so by the time this song came out, we were teenagers. We used to listen to this whenever it was played on the radio a lot. Love to all ♥

The 70's is the greatest decade of all times. Fool is one of those INMORTAL songs I have a 26 year old daughter who has no idea what good music is. We were lucky to have been brought up in times when there were great singers and true song writers !

The year my son Langdon was born my husband, his father, played this song on his guitar and sang this with so much love. My son a few years starting doing the same . His father passed away years ago , too young to see him go . But it brings tears to me everyday and every time my son reminds me again how much this song means to both of us …. DJDiscoCat, you have lifted your bar to perhaps its greatest height with this one. “Fool” was released the year I lost my father, and it played almost in a melancholic loop on radio that fall as my life changed forever. It hurt like hell for years to hear it, but time would soften the hard edges of pain even as the song slipped from the playlists and was much more rarely heard. I listen to your remix tonight and truly, for the first time, I appreciate the lyrics and musicality. Chris Rea was, and is, a gift. Now I hear this song as I should have from the first listen, profoundly moved by it, and it is so much better to embrace it late than never at all. Thank you for this typically brilliant effort.
