I think Jared's is tuned a bit too far down ... Jared's sounds a lot better when he plays up closer to the bridge but it really flubs out when it gets to the lower notes. Rob's isn't quite so low so there's more tone I think.

If you look at the little box near the joint between the handle and blade, that is an active pickup. That is how it sounds so much like a real guitar. Active pickups are typically a bit more aggressive sounding. The wiring is probably on the back of the shovel//

Nikomak99 yea so a 7 string instrument with a guitar shape (better known as a 7 string guitar) is not a guitar due to the fact that it does not have the standard E A D G B E six string configuration? or at least that's what one could understand out of what you said... if the instrument holds any more or any less strings than a standard guitar you cannot call it a guitar? so a nine string is alien tech by your standards? does the number of strings on a guitar really amount to one's ability to call that guitar what it actually is? I think not... this fancy names such as "djent stick" "djent shovel" are just fancy names for what is to all intends and purposes a guitar with a lesser amount of strings (in this case 1)... and the ones with more strings have simple adjectives in front of the "guitar" noun describing the number of strings it has, which means that a "guitar" is a standard six string and a "x string guitar" is still a guitar but with a "unstandard" number of strings... you get my point?
