@ first and foremost it’s one of if not the most reliable NTT in the system has 8 cars which fits the M is CBTC equipped, and It’s a train that’s barley used and only limited to the L train with a select few on the J.

Correction: Crosstown CBTC is still in the works and won’t be fully complete and activated until 2027. The summer shutdown that happened this year (2024) was just to expedite much of the preliminary work needed to continue installing CBTC.

Well the M is based out of ENY yard alongside the J, L & Z trains so makes sense that the R179s would eventually make their way to the M line and who knows maybe possibly one day the L line next 🤷🏼‍♂️

The R179 has entered service on the L before, it was during the early days of the R179s, but they were taken out after problems happened and were later relocated, most to the 8th ave lines and some to the Nassau ave lines

If the section from Essex St to Myrtle Ave was transformed into a 4-track line, the M could be completely de-interlined from the J and reverted to brown and put the Nassau St Line’s unused northbound tracks to proper use. This would result in the disadvantage of eliminating direct services to Midtown Manhattan, therefore requiring transfers but it would increase train capacity and efficiency by de-interlining. Just look at the level junction at Myrtle Ave. Even the Williamsburg Bridge is said to be a severe bottleneck due to trains merging.

The R143s CBTC is different from the Queens Boulevard, 8th Avenue, and Culver CBTC. It might not run there because the R143's and the Canarsie are equipped with an Old CBTC.

@CLBT7437 Well it's most likely due to CBTC, which means they have to do something about the B, since not only is QBL getting CBTC, but 8th Avenue is ALSO getting CBTC, and the B/D both use SMEEs as of right now, so more than likely both will get R160s at some point, meaning the N/Q/W will likely get their R160s back but will run with R68s and R68As from the B/D until the R268s inevitably come.
