Technically speaking, the alternator does not waste much energy - it generates a load on the engine depending on how much current we draw from it, so using this charger will slightly increase fuel consumption. Nevertheless, it is a great solution for one or several day trips out of town :)

You are correct sir. There is some minimum constant energy that the alternator produces. And if unused, that is wasted. But after a certain point, the alternator will generate more load ask more from the engine (if the AC is turned on for example). And that will affect gas consumption slightly.

Hi. Great video BTW! But I have a somewhat odd question for you. I'm interested in what table you have set up behind you. I know that's an odd, very odd, question but non-the less I'm wondering what brand, model number if possible that table is. It looks just perfect for my clicking finger charging setup for a day out crawling on the rocks. So if possible can you please let me know what kind it is. Thank you very much and I look forward to your next rc video!

Can this confuses the ecu on the car

I've used several models. They are not connected to any of the computer modules in a vehicle. When connected to the battery the alternator self-regulates and the battery itself acts as a bit of a buffer on startup. Plus there is protection circuits in the attachable charger as well.
