Fyi, writing to the government didn't help. there aren't enough people in this hobby to actually affect anything from writing letters. it's simply DJI lobbying Democrats.

IF, IF, DJI is collecting or can collect data sensitive for national security, our individual freedom of choice falls flat. Likely this story makes DJI make the choice, stop selling or cut off information collecting. I'm Swedish and don't use DJI clouds, accounts, or whatever there is. My flying is none of their business, except for the Swedish authority giving clearance for publishing the recordings. What a mess......

Calm it down a bit. When I fly my DJI drones, any of them: Mini 2, Air 2, or FPV, they're not getting any data. There's nothing to sell. My system is off network. My drones don't have my WIFI, and the phones are outside the WIFI coverage when I fly. There's no over the air 5G data because my phone is configured where I can see it, plus when I fly I'm creating tens to hundreds of gigs of motion video. If this was being transmitted, I would see it my my apps data, and phone data usage numbers. Its not. It's also not stored on my phone because the storage is maxed out (less than 1G avail of 64G on the phone). Now, it does store a very low res thumbnail. It does store a log of my flight path, but that stays on my phone. It does not upload it, unless I go in there and turn on "Cloud sync". If you're worried about yours, just go into your configuration settings and make sure it's off. It's really silly to think China is going to use my 249g drone that flies over a dirt field for anything nefarious. They didn't "dump" it as I paid more for the DJI than a Holy Stone, or any number of clones out there. They can't get video of power substation control systems for 2 reasons: I don't fly by power lines, and 2nd, power controls are inside a building not out in the open. There's a litany of additional bogus scare-mongering out there but those are the initial ones cited in the US Department of Homeland Security Cyber Bulletin on "DJI dangers." Its extremely unprofessional, misguided, and just flat out wrong about a huge chunk of what it cites, "is significant risk."

They aren't. They've even put out multiple statements on such things. They've stated that 1. They don't and CAN'T look at anything recorded on the drones. 2. They condemn the use of their drones in ANY lethal military applications, and have even severed ties with vendors that were found to be modifying DJIs with lethal payloads. 3. Any GPS data that IS transmitted, is a scrambled 5km grid before it is uploaded, so DJI can't get pinpoint accurate data from it's users. 4. A majority of the company is owned by the company itself, they are not a public company, don't have shareholders they need to appease, or anything like that. Frank Wang, the founder owns about 45% of the company himself, the other C-Level Executives own close to 30% split between them, around 15-20% from American Venture Capital (north of 100 million), and 5% owned by the CCP. Frank has also stated the CCP has zero influence on how he conducts HIS business. They also went ahead and disabled the ability for users to upload flight log data manually. So DJI has ZERO GPS information for the last couple months, they do not care about it.

I love and own DJI drones but I’m also not naive to the crookedness of communist China either. Another issue is that they could take total control of the company any time they wanted to. We really do need to quit depending on China alone for a lot of things and not just drones and other electronics. I’m against a ban as well but I could possibly understand something like a review of firmware before release. Seems like everything is just strong rhetoric and all or nothing these days with government instead of taking a measured approach.

If you go and find the Zoom meeting with the Reb politician who raised the bill, the FAA and others, then you’ll hear the Republican say that they’re Chinese and he doesn’t trust them. With asked by the FAA what proof he has that DJI are a threat he says nothing. There was no proof to start with and it’s nothing more than a bill introduced by a racist.

I think it's hilarious that you actually think Skydio has any kind of control over this situation. Skydio doesn't have that much capital to lobby. DJI is out lobbying skydio by millions of dollars. DJI is lobbing Democrat politicians. Skydio doesn't have that kind of money. They're just a company that's adding insight to the situation. Skydio has nothing to do with this. There are simply people in our government that don't trust China, for good reason. if there's any money being exchanged, it's going from DJI to the Democrats.

This debacle has everything to do with the war in the Ukraine. Once they open Pandora's box I am certain we will see remote shut offs or frequency hijacking from our Banana Republic.
