Good to have competition and this has obviously been put together by people that understand MTBs, not some hack. However, I don't think there's enough room for improvement in the 250W mid-motor only category for anything to be game changing. The Pinion MGU and possibly other motors with integrated transmissions are where it's at.

Well you answered my questions of how much of that power is available in all assist modes and would it overheat . never the less , five thousand $/€ is a bargain for carbon and such a powerful motor . i've been a good boy and haven't ranted about the Sachs/BMZ for awhile but this video prompts me to chime in 😂 two of the amazing aspects about the BMZ is that ALL of the power (112 Nm) is available in all assist modes and at RPMs as low as 40 to 60. the other is it does NOT overheat . i've ridding the bike for five years now on some very long and steep hills in tour mode and it has never overheated . Sorry Sam , i just had to mention those things . Good video . lots of useful info . 👍

This is evolutionary. Time will tell how it holds up, and how the warranty/repair support is. It’s a good looking bike too. The only thing I really don’t like is the kinked seat stay. Could limit dropper choice. But otherwise I’m pretty blown away
@glencompton29494 ай бұрын
Holy crap that looks amazing on first impressions. I’m very keen on the Pinion MGU but this has come out of left field and seems really promising. The proportions of that frame make the motor look quite discrete for the rated power figures. Seemed very quiet. Can’t wait too see how it goes on steep climbs, consistency of power and how much if any thermo throttling you experience. Characteristics on technical and chunky terrain. Things like the overrun, how smooth/aggressive power coming.
@Silverbeardedsurfer4 ай бұрын
@@glencompton2949 I don't think I need 120nm and that much power is going to be hard on the drive train. But innovations like this are great for us consumers. I'm keen on the Pinion MGU too. Sick of cleaning chains. It's rarely dry in Scotland.
@glencompton29494 ай бұрын
@@Silverbeardedsurfer I’m so over cleaning chains. I love that my wife rides with me, but having double the work is a pain. I’m in a wet part of NZ with horrible clay. I also don’t need that much power and agree it can be heard in components & chew through battery but that’s the beauty of the software power modes. Like you I just appreciate the innovation.

This is great but i really wish they had done something like a belt drive and either the motor compensate for a lack of gear of a single speed or maybe something like only 2 gears directly integrated in the motor. Because the problem of the emtb is the costs on the long run that come with wear and tear that arise from having a chain and a cassette which wears out components

Very nice review! Hopefully, DJI can put a rest to some of the 'safety' issues regarding e-bike batteries (ie. catching fire). All the bad press on e-bike batteries really causes some issues with rules/laws/regulations in specific areas or settings. They use what's called intelligent flight batteries on their drones.....I'm sure they're doing something similar in their e-bikes. Looks like a smart move for DJI entering this market. Thanks again for the review!
@aleszverca4 ай бұрын
It's really a beautiful bike and great integration, interested into the internals of the motor. EU laws won't allow it to sell with those specs, it will have to be factory detuned, unless the mentioned 1000 W of peak power is really just the power spikes(peaks), like in the 90s sound boxes had a rating of 500W in reality it was just about 100W or less. I can easily get my Syncdrive to peak of power in the realm of 900W+ so this not really a surprise. Also when you up the Tourqe the Power falls, so there are ups and downs with this. There is also the massively increased consumption if the motor is not a 48V system, the last point availability of service centers etc...IMO the most important thing when ebike buying. The 12A charger IMO as an electrical engineer is actually a safety concern, way to much heat into the small amount of cells.

@SamsBikes hi Sam. As a rider, this is my view. Yes it 'looks' good however the motor is only there to take us to the top of the hill for the most important part: shredding down the trail. How it actually rides is way more important than whether it has 110nm or 60nm. Most guys with heckler SL think 60nm is actually enough so yeah. Does the bike ride well over jumps, through berms, and on steep terrain is what matters. Not the peak power.

The obvious questions will be around build, reliability and the service network. The frame will be built by an OEM in Taiwain or China, so there's no fear there. Reliability on a new motor will be hard to gauge, but time will tell and this leads in to the service network that (at the moment) is non-existant and will take time to grow. Groupset, suspension & other components will come from the usual suspects. Looks great though.... if only I hadn't just bought a Levo!
