Any issues with GPS in Antarctica? When I flew my Mavic 2 Pro in Fairbanks, AK, there were some days where it wanted to wander even though it was connected to plenty of satellites. I asked DJI about this and they warned me that I may experience just GPS glitches in the polar region and I should use caution. Some days, it was rock-solid stable. But there were some days that I really had to stay on the sticks and make corrections. I'd be pointing the stick forward to go straight, but it would start to drift to the left or so. Part of this could be because I was so close to "true-North" and "magnetic-North." So maybe you'll less likely have issues in near the South Pole.

The single biggest reason to get a Pro 2, is 10bit Dlog and the variable aperture. Low light video is noticeably better as well. The footage doesn't look so much a like a GoPro anymore. The controller holds an iPad mini, which is more than enough.

Great video thank you ! However I understand your feelings about the added cost of the new DJI Smart Controller.. I had those feelings as well until I got one.. all I can say is .. Wow.. the brightness of the screen, the even better signal strength and the integration very well done. No more fumbling trying to mess around with setting up phone, etc. Also just a note, I do carry the original controller with me as a emergency backup.. however since owning the new DJI Smart controller it makes the whole experience less cumbersome and the screen so easy to see even in almost direct sunlight ( We still have Winter in Canada , reflection of sun off the snow ) and yes I agree ND & ND-PL filters help keep those camera settings in check and produce great shots! Cheers from Waterloo, Ontario Canada ~!

I'm a travel videographer- flown the Phantom 3 and Mavic Pro- all over the world- but had some REALLY scary incidents taking off/landing from boats and almost lost it in HaLong Bay/Europe/Mexico... but somehow managed each time to not lose it, just barely. This has made me scared of flying from any ship. However, I may be filming a trip in Antarctica later this year and aerials from the ship (as you have done) would be important- so I'm intrigued by your experience taking off/ landing- and is the Mavic 2 Pro worth an upgrade for this feature alone? Thanks

How is the crash avoidance? I have gotten stuck in branches too many times with my original Mavic Pro. I do real estate photography. Does the camera housing seem more robust? A fall of 8 feet busted my gimbal on the original Mavic.

Enjoyed the Video. Thanks for posting. I have the Mavic 2 Pro, having upgraded from the original. I am off to Antarctica at the end of the year and had few queries. I appreciate the rules but at the end of the day it is going to be up to your tour operator if they let you fly. Did you have any compass calibration issues? Calibrating while on land and not make any changes while on the ship has been suggested. I've flown other DJI drones (P1, P2, P4, I1, I2) and occasionally had issues when taking off from areas where there is lots of metal (from bridges and piers). Do you have any suggestions or tips. Thanks in anticipation. David B

It really depends on the situations. I generally try to keep the shutter speed double your frame rate - if shooting 4k at 30p your shutter speed should be 1/60. Set your ISO to 100 and your apeture to whatever setting you need for proper exposure.

@@PacmannProductionsTv This isn't a thing. All countries that do research on the continent of Antarctica have signed a treaty banning mineral extraction (oil/gas/ore etc mining) and are not allowed to militarize but there are international research stations ALL over the continent including the interior. You can find maps of these locations. At certain areas along the coast where the larger glaciers meet the ocean you can find ice walls- they are the edges of these glaciers as they enter the water. No big conspiracies here. Most of what we saw in Antarctica was beautiful snowcapped mountains.
