DJI Mavic Air 2 Review

In this video review, I am taking a closer look at the new DJI Mavic Air 2 that DJI has just announced. The Mavic Air 2 is a massive upgrade from the original and now features Ocusync 2.0 with a 10 KM range, 4K 60 FPS capable camera, 34 minutes of flight time among many other new features, and enhancements. The new Mavic Air 2 features low noise propellers so it is much quieter than the original. In this video we do a quick unboxing, go over all the new features, and take it out for our first flight. I also offer up my thoughts and first impressions and what I think of the new Mavic Air 2.

There is no comparison to the Mavic Pro (Platinum) on yt. Mavic Pro has the basic functions of the Air2 for a better price (and many used available)? Better quality and transmitter than the Mini? So if you need no fancy stuff is it the way to go?

I bumped up the saturation about 5% Just because everything is still blah looking after the snow melts. Not a lot of color yet

HDR is an overloaded term. In video, HDR can mean that the TV displays the video with a different transfer function so that you can physically output brighter light and a wider range of colours. In photography, it generally means taking multiple exposures and doing some maths to produce a false colour image that looks interesting. Question is: what do DJI mean by HDR video? For an example of HDR video, look up Jacob + Katie Schwarz or "The HDR Channel" and play some of their HDR content on compatible hardware (such as a Chromecast Ultra connected to a HDR capable TV). It would be amazing if we could get that sort of output direct from the drone. Although shooting in D-Cinelike and doing HDR colour grading may also be an option for that.

Hello In your review for the mavic Air 2, why didn’t you reveal and point out that there was no advanced gimbal controls in the app? Was everything supposed to be positive because they loaned you the drone to try out? I thought you were unbiased.

That is a really good point. The thing you have to remember when reviewing these beta products Is that the firmware is still in beta many of the features that are now available on the Mavic air 2 Were not available on the beta firmware. For example Apas Was not present until the final firmware was released after the Announcement. So it’s hard to comment on something us reviewers don’t know if it will be there in the final release. The feature is there if you launch the fly app Without being connected to the drone. So I assume it will be coming at some point. When reviewing these early releases I try not to mention or comment about beta software when I do a 30 days in or follow up review That’s when I will bring up some of the software issues Because it is no longer in Beta.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately we make our purchasing decisions based on the reviewers comments. It also didn’t help that the DJI FLY App Guide is for the Mavic Mini. We all assumed since it was present in The lower end unit it would be there in this unit. I did read and watched reviews on the app before I bought the drone. Future updates? The new Mavic Air 2 has over heating issues. There are lots of posts on the DJI groups and forums about this.. Several people said when they get the error the drone auto lands wherever it is. So do not fly over water with it!!! DJI does it again after the Spark compass errors fly-aways, as well as all de mini problems. I canceled, done with beta testing for DJI!

issues with this drone, currently 24.6.2020 you cant control the gimbal except vertically (up/down) theirs NO horizontal manual control .... Yes I own a Mavic Air 2 European version aka UK. also the 2 function keys, currently you can only change these functions from activating light on/off & centre gimbal. thats all... nothing else. even with a recent update on Drone, battery & controller & the App itself. The flying telemetry is fantastic no break-up/lag (I've not pushed it too far due to uk reg's) flight time is very good, The DJI fly app is good, it even has a editing feature however this is where it drops away unfortunately.. you can record in 1080P 2.7K & 4k however editing with the app you can only edit in 720 & 1080P no further options available so video quality is then made limited. Editing as a whole theirs loads of features, except any form of scene/cut blending... its all hard scene to hard scene feature only nothing making your footage that bit more special "as other apps & editor programs allow" Aw & the gimbal is weak cheap plastic which makes damaging this very easy, having some kind of added protection would be advised & either insurance or the DJI refresh for peace of mind "insurance is cheaper & more value for your money" for all the research & production DJI still fall short with Drones.... Mavic Pro2 has size, power & a very good camera yet lacks in flying features, the Air2 has good flying features yet not as good camera & lacks sensory protection... all these & the editing still limits amateur drone flyers from producing good footage to share, well, unless owners buy/use 3rd party editing software.....

Get the free app AirMap. It will tell you if you can fly in a given area. Also for a given airport the floor increases as you go further out from the airport

I wish this would let me use the Crystal Sky. It's the brightest screen I own and cell phones tend to heat up when they run at max brightness for a long period of time. I live in a hot place and my iPhone shut itself down numerous times due to heat from the screen when flying the original Air.

Yes you can use an iPad mini but you have to use a third-party mound. It works quite well I did upload a video demonstrating it

I wonder when the Mavic 3 Pro will be out? I do really like the Air 2, the video and photos do look big improvement on the original Air and even in some situations the Mavic 2 Pro but the tracking still isn't quite good enough imo. The Air 2 doesn't keep up with you if you are moving too quickly (like on a pedal bike or skiing or heaven forbid something motorised) and it doesn't have enough sensors (no top or arm/side sensors) to be able to see things coming to reliably move around them like say the Skydio 2 does for example. I'm sure the Mavic 3 Pro will up the anti even on the Skydio 2 but could 6+ months away still. This lack of sensors does produce some creative limitations too beyond just banging into trees above you that it can't see. For example the Air 2 can't fly right along side you to film you because it needs to be point itself a little forward to use it's forward facing sensors to see things coming, so what it does is hangs back and off to the side as a compromise. It still looks ok but that fully parallel shot is way better. At the end of the day the Air 2 is significantly cheaper than the Mavic 2 or Evo 2 or Skydio 2 so it was never going to have everything and the Air 2 does move things along a lot with it's much better designed controller, OcuSync 2.0 transmission system, 34min flight time, improved image quality from the IMX586 sensor, RAW images, 4K60, 4K HDR, 1080p240, and although not perfect the tracking and obstetrical avoidance is still improved. I guess at the end of the day, many people are happy to pay more for a phone every 2-3 years so maybe these aren't too expensive if you think of them in that mindset rather than waiting and waiting until there is the perfect drone with everything you want which my never come because there will always be something over the horizon that would be really cool to have on them. Which is an interesting thought, where will drone development go in the next 10+ years? Obviously things like flight time, image quality, tracking systems, obstetrical avoidance and raw speed will all be natural progressions for them but I think zoom lenses (or multiple lenses) will become more common as they are doing on phones right now as this opens up much greater creative options. But I wonder what other things might get added in the future that we haven't thought of today?

Standard power banks know. Power banks that have an AC built-in yes and I actually filmed a video demonstrating this. I’ll be uploading the video early next week. Do you want unfortunate thing is that it’s not very efficient and you can only get 1 to 2 charges out of the power bank

I'm having difficulty Activating my MavicAir2. When I click "Activate" it takes me to the Binding Agreement page. After I click Agree, it asks me to then click Activate. That doesn't work and suggests I need to contact Customer Service. I've tried re-entering my name and password, and following the same procedure - that doesn't work either. Can anyone help?

Tbh here, the footage doesnt look so much better than the footage of the mini, or am I wrong? I know the specs are better, but the videos didnt look better in my opinion
