Billy! I just got my first Mavic today and it already is down for the count. I have previously owned Phantom 3's and 4's and I'm very familiar with DJI stuff. I powered everything up, did the firmware update, calibrated the Mavic. It flew well for about five minutes during its maiden when suddenly, while hovering about 20 feet above my driveway, all the motors stopped and it fell to the concrete. I picked up the drone and instantly felt how insanely hot it was. Next thing I knew smoke was coming out. I removed the battery as fast as possible and the smoking stopped. It was not the battery it was something inside the Mavic. Have you heard of this happening? And yes the little cooling fan was working during the firmware update so I don't think it had to do with that. I will call DJI tomorrow but I'm already dreading the long wait time and difficulty to come to get this Mavic replaced.

I have heard of the Mavic having overheating problems, but have never heard a story of it falling from the sky! This has got to be an internal problem with the hardware, definitely get that replaced.

Yah I got a weird fluke for sure. Contacted them this morning. The gentleman was very helpful on the phone but then when I received the support email it was regarding a "Return to home fly away" which was not my issue. So now I replied and am waiting for the proper support to get my Mavic sent into DJI. The guy on the phone said I will get a brand new one tho with what happened so that's good to hear.

The mavic, phantom, etc. are not meant to be agile, acrobatic quads. They're for flying and shooting video, not doing flips, loops, rolls, corners, etc.

I believe fpv and follow me mode are two different things. (Correct me if I was wrong) fpv stands for first person view, and just shows you the quads view through its camera. Follow me mode is self explanatory

What i noted is that on fix wing mode. Throttle stick gets in your right thumb as a mode 1 controller most used in EURO. Normally a rc airplane(fix wing mode) you fly it with throttle/rud stick on left thumb and AIL/elev on right thumb. Try customizing your controller stick so it gets as rc plane then.

voongnz i though the same thing, when you get into fix wing mode, your controller get as a mode 1, when you normally fly on mode 2. It means that throttle/rudder stick is on your left thumb and ail/elev on your right thumb, but on the fix wing mode for rc airplane flyer is not good. Try to get in customize controller stick on the menu and then custom your sticks as left stick get Forward on the down and back on the up so you accent as it is on an rc plane. Right stick get your up/down so when it is on fix wing mode you get your controller as your rc planes

Do you have any news or thoughts on how to avoid the lost signal RTH into the sun or bright cloud and the mavic stops dead thinking its an obstical leaving the mavic in a hover in no mans land and with no signal your only chance to recover is get closer to the mavic to regain signal.

As did I. In typical DJI fashion, they released a feature with little to no settings to optimize. They usually come out with these settings at a later date though.

Did they fix the gimbal action in gimbal FPV mode? I hate that they don't just make the gimbal stay fixed, but instead they make the gimbal exaggerate the roll of the quad. It's incredibly annoying if you have experience flying FPV drones with fixed cameras.

I tried FPV mode on my phantom, and if the quad tilts left or right the gimbal tilts as well which give an exaggerated roll on the screen. The gimbal should stay in a locked position, so only the tilt of the quad is what you see, not the tilt of the quad AND the tilt of the gimbal also.

You shouldn't generalize what the sticks control. For instance, the left stick only controls the altitude if you are using the 2nd mapping

I have tried this out today, but for some reason, whenever I let go of my right stick, the mavic just start hovering, and doesn't want to enter to the fixed wing mode. Any ideas what could go wrong?

Make sure you hit C1 to set the speed

Did that. After hitting C1, I got the airplane sign on the left, and then as soon as I release the stick on the right, the airplane goes away and the speed stops and the drone starts to hover.

+Cristian Damian It is known as peak focus threshold. Make sure you have it turned off if you don't want the red outlines to be there.

Based on what I read, you can vary your speed from 3mps on the low end to something a lot faster using the right stick. It's a fixed minimum, not a fixed speed.

It just switches off the Fixed Wing Mode if the speed becomes slower than 3 m/s by moving the right stick down.

FPV mode locks the gimbal, allowing it to move side to side with your movements giving you the feeling of flying. Gimbal mode allows the gimbal to always stay horizontal for smooth shooting.

This is not all about it! Right stick forward will increase speed. Let the right stick go and it will decrease again. Also you can switch to sport-mode and the result is a more aggressive turning and also higher speed with the right stick moved forward.

Both ... of course the mavic banks during a turn, but the Gimbal is used to increase the effect. While climbing oder descending the mavic behaves like in normal mode and only the Gimbal creates the sensation that the nose is up or down like in an plane while in fact the nose is always down while flying forward.

Hi Kyle, Did you get error information when you update the 03.06 firmware version of mavic? I tried three times but every time failed when progressing 74%, DJI support customer told me I need to send mavic back the company because this is the hardware problem.

Today I sent my mavic back, support customer told me it's gimbal camera problem. many mavic drones have the same problem, so next whole week I need to wait for my mavic. there is some latency but it is minimal and I does not seem any more than when I used to use the HDMI out on on Inspire 1 Im using fatshark Dominator HD 3 goggles and Sony HMZ-T3 goggles which are amazing I also tried to use my iphone 6S plus and airplay using an apple tv as the hdmi out but it was too laggy and dropped out

yeah I was hoping the Apple tv would work but you have to mains power the apple tv and you have to hot spot yout iphone to the apple tv to get appleplay to work but it was a fail for fpv due to drop outs and lag the microsoft wireless adapter creates it own wireless connection which just works and works great no dropouts and smooth video and very clear I will wait and see what DJI want for their goggles and let others try them first. I doubt they will be as clear and sharp as my Sony HMZ-T3 goggles which provide a 750 inch display and so sharp and clear. Also will DJI goggles have anti fog fans like the Fatshark goggles have. My sony goggles fog up in the colder weather until they heat up a bit.
