Always the best range tests. I'm glad that you showed the search-rescue process, they are rarely shown on youtube videos, yet we will all need to know how to find our drones when we overdue the range, lose battery power, or have a malfunction. It shows that you always want to land with a few percent battery left, so you can turn on the lights and beeper when you get close.

WOW Dustin! One of the best videos yet rofl... scared the crap outta me just watching this. I have the original mavic mini, but you know, this range test does give others an idea of just how far these things can go, and for those who just want to fly a kilometer out can most likely do it safely. Also when it wants to land, you have shown how to milk it a little to squeeze a little more out of it. Good job. Happy Flying

What a thriller and great ending. By the way I noticed the height @ landing around -115 ft due to elevation difference between take off point & landing point. So if someone lives at the bottom of the hill and they are sending drone up the hill, they may want to set RTH height and adjust for uphill terrain elevation.

If you tap the battery status meter with your finger it will open a menu that will show you the time remaining until RTH, and the time remaining until Forced landing will occur. It also shows time until battery depletion once forced landing is in progress.

@BigHeadDP3 жыл бұрын
So, what i was really interested in was how much flight you could have. this video was 22 minutes 41 seconds pushing it to the limit. The other video i watched you made it out and back and then did other tests with the last of the life of that battery, and lasted a little over 21 minutes before it forced landing. So lithium Ion - 22 minutes 41 seconds Lipo - 21 minutes 12 seconds (based on using youtube time bar, measuring from the 18 minutes of recording point)
@DustinDunnill3 жыл бұрын
Good analysis. Some difference can also always be due to the wind speed and direction. Even 1mph wind difference can mean a lot for flight time 🍻
@dubmob1512 жыл бұрын
So has anyone done any testing to try to determine the optimal speed for maximum travel distance? Is it somewhere closer to the max speed end vs. slow?

had a little trouble finding this.. but want to see the test result. Dustin, I enjoy your thorough videos, and checking the limits of performance. Wind is the wild card in the range test, but not so much in duration. This is true of real airplanes as well... we learn to work with averages an keep track as we fly, and I am learning from your videos, that drones are no different.
@peaceone97333 жыл бұрын

is it possible to land earlier around 10-20% on a safe spot like a building or something and then drive to the drone. And then when you close at the drone you can just let it fly back to you? this way you can still see the pov of the drone if someone try to steal it. Or will the drone be auto turn off and you cant turn the power on from distance?
@DustinDunnill2 жыл бұрын
Yes but the FPV link will likely disconnect anyway when you land if you are far away then reconnect when you get closer. Then you can fly or choose return to controller if power is sufficient 🍻

Cool test once again, the only trouble is since you didn't make it back, I am not sure how to gauge the MINI 1 battery advantage if any. I think if you took a half mile off your range you would have made it back which means its a little better at 3.5 miles than the MINI 2 battery at just under 3 I think on your test, although you even goofed around a little when you got back with the MINI 2 range test I think. Still guessing the MINI 1 is slightly better. What do you think? Wish we could see your battery power percentage number a little better during these MINI2 tests, but cool tests !!
