Love my mini 4 pro, fantastic little drone, very capable. Good to know how well obstacle avoidance works, but I prefer to keep it out of forests! 😂

I don't know what's more amazing, the APAS technology or the adulation you express at how well the technology performs on this little drone. I say all that as a complement. Keep up the great videos, Rick. ;)

Thanks for the post and these are all "one take" and unfiltered tests so it's hard for me to hide my excitement when a small flying robot like the Mini 4 Pro can navigate deep into (and out of) the woods on it's own while missing all the hazards. I appreciate you watching and I'll have more content posting soon. Happy flying!

I watch this video over and over, it’s just amazing…I’m just waiting to register my MP4 with the FAA because I purchased it with the fly more combo with the Big Batteries…Thanks again for your video. Hopefully you will post more obstacle avoidance videos with the MP4 👍

I noticed, many times you explain the concept and then give details. Excellent. First time I understand what apas is even though I've heard this word. Also in the video regarding Altitude indicator you explained the concept and added details. It's an excellent way to understand concepts. I finally understand both concepts with a simple explanation you gave. Well done. It is ability and talent. thanks

The trouble is that too many newbies have been relying on this too much, then end up crashing their drones, they should learn to fly a drone properly without the sensors first, love your enthusiasm 👍👍

True. When you consider the cost of a drone and or repair cost, it's not worth the risk.

Agreed. I fly very carefully, doing my best to not put the drone in a bad place, but I love that the collision avoidance is there to save my ass if I need it.

I've been applying for many many years now. I find RC jet EDF's and turbines. I've heard this reasoning many times over the years. And I understand it, because of this technology many people who would never have flown or flying today. Technology is actually increased at least customer base.

Impressive, but I was really disappointed that you stopped and pulled back when the going got a little tough. I was really looking forward to see how it would've handled the thicker woods...

Wow. That was pretty amazing. I would assume at some point if it doesn’t see a path it would just hover ? Also, does this work with active track as it follows you into the woods? If the apas works for active track, this would be a game changer for following a subject in the woods and navigating around without worry. Great video.
@harrison88322 ай бұрын
it does work for active track, and if it can’t figure it out it just hovers. I have one and it truly is amazing !

Rick, thanks for putting your M4P through the woods to confirm its APAS capabilities, wow 😅. Can’t wait till temps cool down to go flying. Triple digits in feels-like temps here in Miami for sometime now…🥵

@davannaleah2 ай бұрын
As good as it all seems. It all depends on what risks you are prepared to take with your expensive little drone. If you already know it can handle a particular situation then fine, but most of the time you won't know until you try... Best of luck!

APAS is great technology. In my experience, it just does not make sense to fly a drone in these types of conditions. The drone will not be able to detect and account for all of the small twigs and branches. In the process of avoiding a twig or branch, it may smash into others. It is good that APAS can detect and go around, over, or above objects and this is a good demonstration of what it can do. What it boils down to me is responsible drone piloting and not subjecting an expensive piece of equipment to conditions like this. New drone pilots will most like crash their drones if they do this. Only speaking for myself here, I did not purchase my drone to take risks with it. I would never fly it in dense wooded areas. I know it will avoid and navigate tree trunks. It is the small twigs and branches it will have a problem with. The ambient lighting conditions play a major factor in what the drone “sees.” Newbies should be cautioned not to do this.

Yeah, easier to put the osmo action 4 on a stick and pretend to fly on the woods :)
@artykohl11182 ай бұрын
I flew RCs, so much in the '80s I just like flying it all myself. I feel better just staying alert, being careful, and flying the sticks manually. Also, I have launched where I was alone because I don't want to attract attention and seconds later, ten people all pile into a mountain turnout and then just hang out there forever. Usually I move to another spot and leave my drone hanging in the sky until I get there, and then fly to my new location. If I can't do that, I bring it in close, but keep it hidden, and then find some dead bushes to crash into, go for a little nature walk with my drone bag, and collect it and fold it. Nobody knows.

Is the only difference with the Pro the transmitter with the built- in screen? I know it has APAS,but It’s 3X the price!

you can get it with the normal controller, the bundle with screen controller costs more. 759 vs 959.

Skydio did this years ago
@DronevalleyАй бұрын
Skydio had the most sophisticated crash avoidance tech on the planet a few years back with their "trinocular" lenses and then abandoned the hobby & commercial market to chase the bigger bucks in the defense space. When they did this, they left all of the hobbyists (like me) that bought their gear and supported them high and dry. They got even more evil and started hiring lobbyists to convince some simple minds in Washington that their main competitor (DJI) was a threat to national security in order to eliminate the competition. All bad moves in my opinion, and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth about a company that had SO much potential.

It only has WIFI and not OcuSync 3.
@Dronevalley2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the post but the DJI Mini 4 Pro is using the latest Ocusync 4 (O4) transmission technology, which is a proprietary schema. Even though it rides on the 2.4 & 5.8 Ghz bands, it frequency hops as needed to maintain a solid signal. It's hands-down the most robust transmission tech on the market today for consumer drones.
