Impressive what you can do with a $200 drone (ignoring the FPV costs here) and the quality of it. Beautiful job. I keep hearing and seeing horror stories of people flying the Neo over water so I was surprised to see how well yours did.
@SteveCouttsАй бұрын
Thanks Chris! I never intended to splurge on the goggles when I bought the Neo but I am sure glad I did. What an incredibly fun way to fly! Yeah, I've read some horror stories regarding the Neo and water as well. You definitely don't want to use the Neo in Palm Control mode over water because in that mode, it will just land on a low battery condition, so you would be screwed over water. One story a viewer told me sounded clearly like a case of the drone malfunctioning. DJI did replace his drone and it didn't cost him against his Care Refresh. That's nothing new to DJI drones based on my experience. Many of the other incidents I read about sounded a lot like folks being stupid or simply pilot inexperience. I came pretty close to hitting the water very early in this video and that would have been totally on me. Happy, safe flying!

Be careful over water. I had a situation where it lost GPS for no obvious reason. Beautiful day like this, clear skies, zero obstacles, no restriction area. On my return, while 50m over water, it just nose dived into the water. I couldn't control it. DJI attributed my crash to "flight control issues" after reviewing my log. Not pilot error specifically. My suspicion was the loss of GPS meant it had to revert to visuals only and over reflective water, it got for very confused. Also, great scenery! Looking to do some similar shots shortly in Ottawa.
@SteveCouttsАй бұрын
That's crazy!! Did DJI replace the drone? I've had my NEO drop in to ATTI (attitude) mode (no GPS) a few times during flight very early on but it hasn't done it since the last firmware update. ATTI mode is pretty scary because the visual positing system only works up to about 10m of altitude so you're kind of on your own. The NEO and wind are not friends - haha! Yeah, water is always risky but I just couldn't help myself. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Happy, safe flying - cheers!
@OnlineLucАй бұрын
@@SteveCoutts yes, new drone sent and it didn't count towards a DJI care refresh claim either. I just got the replacement and haven't had the weather to test it out. But I'll be watching satellite details closely. I'm also experimenting with diy styrofoam floats. We'll see if any of these ideas pan out.
@SteveCouttsАй бұрын
That's good they replaced it without costing you a claim. Not a bad idea on the floats. Cheers!

Can we fly over water same way using the RC n3 controller? I saw couple of videos telling not to fly over water.
@stankozniewski9385Ай бұрын
There's always a chance of the sensors going out of wack from the reflection and thinking you want to land, especially the neo has that feature baked in where you put your hand out it lands within a second
@SteveCouttsАй бұрын
DJI specially says do NOT fly over water with your NEO in Palm Control mode. Palm Control mode is especially dangerous over water because it will just land, wherever it is, even on water, during a low battery condition. Flying a NEO with a controller is fine to fly over water but regardless of what drone you use, flying over water is always risky. Cheers!

Great FPV flight Steve, that was a scenic location and you got some awesome shots low over the water. I received the Neo since we last talked, but I haven't flown FPV style yet. I really enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing.

Wow! Spectacular views!! Where was this?? I was really enjoying the natural beauty of nature and then I saw those big smokestacks and it ruins it. Lol! Good video though.

It's in Trail, BC, Canada. It's a super ugly smelter that's existed for over 100 years and the source of all my background noise in the video. It certainly does spoil the view. Thanks for watching and the comment, cheers!

Gorgeous views, Steve! Fpv is so fun and immersive! Lol ....always wave at a drone! Careful on the battery life...it has a tendency to just land!
@SteveCouttsАй бұрын
Thanks Don! Yeah, maybe I picked the waving bit up from you - it's the law, right? I have flown enough now to know the NEO can get really aggressive about low battery landing. I got sucked in to those amazing reflections - haha! Cheers!

Great FPV flying and very nice place to fly👏👍👌👊Also very beautiful colors. Did you use a ND Filters? I find the Neo footage even better when using ND filter for cinematic look. I have used a Freewell ND 32 in my latest video and also the FPV footage will look even smoother I think. Keep enjoying your Neo 🇳🇱
@SteveCouttsАй бұрын
Thanks Geert! Yes, a beautiful spot to fly except for the noisy, ugly smelter - haha! I did not use ND filters. I just got some from Freewell on Thursday but haven't even had a chance to try them out yet. I will definitely share the results when I do. Thanks for stopping by - cheers!

I get a kick out of putting the Neo in the zippered net in the Avata 2 sling bags top. Who knew the best accessory for Avata 2 would be another drone, it's little brother! Just learned that Rock Steady/Steady Horizon in camera stabilization requires fast shutter speeds to avoid the weird blurs/artifacts action camera type stabilization gets, so if we use ND filters, it might be better to turn thst off and use Gyro Flow in post. Beautiful flight Steve!
@SteveCouttsАй бұрын
That's funny! Good to know about the ND filters John - thanks for the tip. I'm a total FPV newbie but I am just having a blast. I would have jumped at the Avata 2 but flying sub-250g in Canada is just so frictionless. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
@IdahoQuadcopterАй бұрын
Well done Steve! What an amazing place to fly. I really enjoyed it when you got low on the rapids. I suspect there's an Avata 2 in your future. 😄
@SteveCouttsАй бұрын
Thanks so much Marcus! Yeah, getting down low on the water like that just looked amazing. Funny, it did get me thinking about the Avata 2 but it would be really tough to give up the sub-250g freedom. The NEO "Pro" will be the ticket - haha!
@IdahoQuadcopterАй бұрын
@@SteveCoutts Oh yes, sub-250 is the ticket in Canada. 👍
@FoolWithACamera0Ай бұрын
Despite the specs on the camera, very good footage. I am on the fence about getting a Neo, though, as I own an Avata 2 and an Air 3. The only advantage I can imagine would be the tracking capabilities of the Neo, which I hope DJI eventually upgrades into the Avata. Otherwise, I really can't see any advantages of the Neo over my current stable of drones.
@SteveCouttsАй бұрын
The NEO does a pretty decent job with video in good light. I agree. I think the follow stuff is one of the killer features of this drone. I also think it's big advantage is getting a quick capture without need for a controller or phone. It also has the advantage in Canada of not requiring a spotter for FPV flight because it's sub-250g. I think you have a pretty awesome fleet! Happy, safe flying - cheers!

Who in there right mine would buy a Neo for that kind of flying over water for maybe 15 min, fly a mini 2 with a lens cover for half an hour. LMFAO
