DJI Neo - I found a problem - And why i Dont TRUST it!

Another fabulous video Nobby. Great advice about landing it Manually and keeping a close watch on what it is doing, or in your words don't "trust" it. A couple of my other drones have "Percision Landing" and good as they are, it is not at all foolproof or consistent! I don't want to come across as a spoilsport to viewers but it is worth mentioning that ... We are all required to maintain control of the Drone at all times. That means also in the various Autonomous modes, being ready to jump out of that mode and taking Manual control. We've barely got a legal leg to stand on when things go wrong (as one fella found out earlier this year as I recall). That said, a man of your calibre was aware and in control. So thats not a critique of this video or you.

good tip on landing it manually with the rth on the rc2. it would be no icnic if it landed in the water...lol although i did buy the refresh option. hope not to use it either. all the best!

Im unsure how this can be a fair test. Two different drones and two different weights both dealing with the wind according to their power to weight ratio's. The NEO can be trusted providing you don't expect too much if your flying in unsuitable conditions. If you fly any of. the DJI drones outside of the environmental recommendations then it will present the same issues, just because one drone can handle certain wind speed that doesn't mean the lighter drone will do the same. I have tested the RTH on the NEO and it has never failed and always got within 29 inches of the take off point if I then fly the NEO with strong wind warnings then the result is totally different, more often than not it lands a fair distance from the take off point. I think your video means well however the circumstances for the comparison does'nt reflect its ability when flying limitations are exceeded

Yes the wind factor should be taken into account, even in windless conditions, it fails by a long way. But then again, its no Air 3 its what it is. IT will come back but its not accurate. Thanks

Would calibration of the compass or imu maybe help the Neo it did seem a long way off for sure based on a gps position log rth scenario. I did a couple a week ago and landed by my feet both times 🤔. I love the little thing , I've had the mini series from the beginning all great drones

Yes its a great little drone but it has its limitations. I like it, just wouldnt trust it on the RTH. Although it do do a lot better second time round. Thanks

@nobby-green yeah it's more of a fun drone for sure no real worries about breaking it , people saying if it had a better camera but tbh photo editing is so easy now even on a phone to make things look alot better. Yes it could have this and it could have that but it would also be alot more expensive 🤣. Keep up the good work

Be interested to know if the neo uses an m8 or m10 gps chip? I would expect a very small m10, to be fair tho the RTH feature is for when it all goes wrong. The drone does come back to near the take off point so you can take back control after a loss of signal etc. That's a win in my eyes, I've flown other brands that go totally out of control on a RTH. Did you do a compass calibration before the flight? Don't know if it makes a difference or not?

Not sure I'd ever use RTH on a riverbank regardless of the drone, seems a bit risky. I feel much more comfortable hand flying my drones home. I might use RTH if I'm in the middle of a field or out in the open. I don't think this is a prima facie case of not being able to trust the Neo, it's just an example of an entry level drone not having a super accurate RTH and that's not uncommon. My Mavic Mini never had a fantastic RTH accuracy. RTH is an emergency feature to get your drone back to your vicinity when you've lost track of it or lost communication I've never really thought of it as a feature to auto land your drone right on the landing pad.

@@techlifebio when possible it’s always best to fly back manually as I do. Obviously this was a test to see how good the RTH is on the Neo. Obviously if you lose signal and it returns it’s best to take back control and fly it manually again. Thanks 🙏

I'm not sure that was a fair RTH test for this little drone. When you took off, I think you should have had the camera facing down. Because of the wind, I would have liked to have seen Neo's location when the home point was updated.

@nobby-green I just feel sorry for this little drone. Because it's a DJI, it's had a lot of stick. For £169 it's given a lot of people the chance to own their first DJI drone. I love it and will probably use it often.

It seems with AI, dji could take a memory photo of the landing pad (home) upon the initial takeoff. As it performs RTH, at the point of descent AI would use the photo to adjust the landing spot.

I really don’t get all these tests trying to fly it like a £600 drone when the whole purpose of the Neo is a social media type drone for quick clips and pictures. It’s not what it’s supposed to do or be ..

@@terrytaylor8364 primarily yes it’s a quick use drone and most will use it for that. However DJI have designed it to be able to fly as a cinematic or fpv drone hence being able to buy it with the rcn3 controller and others. It’s no way a £600 drone and never will be but you do get the option to fly it with a controller with most of the features in the fly app. That’s why I conduct these tests for that purpose. Thanks 🙏

Anyone should understand if the drone is 135 g and only give you 15 minutes of power you should not be thinking the drone is going to stand up against a powerful wind. Basically the drone is a video vlogging drone. I think that is DJI focus point with this neo drone. I think it's designed to be below min 2 series. Because DJI said this drone focus is for the people who have absolutely no drone experience.

Only Problem was Pilot error, you were given clear screen warning that you fail to heed: 6:23 - 7:51, put the blame where it belongs. The Problem is Not the Neo aircraft but the Pilot!😖😵‍💫

I think too much is expected from this wee drone. It isnt meant to be used for what you tubers are touting it as. It was made to compete with the Hover Air remember. Not the mini 4 pro/Air 3 etc. It wasnt made to perform like even the original Air.

@@garybean9628 It depends on what you are flying with. If you are using a controller then it will help if you were to fly further distances it will come back to a certain degree. However there is no RTH when flying with your phone but it’s limited to 50m. 👍
