This video is extremely helpful and whets the appetite for using the DJI Neo. I've never heard of Lightcut before! I rode my motorbike to the office today with my new GoPro on my helmet. I edited the video with Lightcut, it looks so much betten than the original footage. Even this boring ride looks like a little adventure now. :-) We will soon start our motorbike tour through Vietnam. I am an absolute beginner when it comes to using drones and action cams. But of course, the DJI Neo will be joining us.

Impressive as always. Really nice to have you back online. Tempted now to add a neo to the collection and use it alongside the mini 3 pro. Do you see any 'real' advantage to this?
@DroneFilmGuideАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment as always! As an owner of a Mini 3 Pro (still an epic drone), the Neo could be interesting for close quarters FPV footage for example. It's not going to substitute the Mini 3 Pro for any traditional cinematic shots though. Much as you can make the Neo look good (especially with a controller and manual exposure/WB and -2 sharpness), you'll notice the difference in quality between the two drones for sure. Mixing the footage could clash a bit if you're looking for high quality results. The Neo is a LOT of fun and it's a good entry point to FPV if you have the goggles and motion controller. But for 'normal' drone shots, if you have a more expensive Mini 3 or 4, there's no contest.
@thewebstylistАй бұрын
Great video and tips brah! I just wish the captures were smoother, most have more of a handheld feel
@DroneFilmGuideАй бұрын
Yup, we're showing what the drone is capable of hopefully but no doubt, there are limitations that you have to work around. But then it does cost $199 and a more 'serious' beginner could look to a Mini drone instead.

Stuart, as always a really good video, very powerful stuff. Is the editing app a DJI app or is it a third-party because I couldn’t see it?
@DroneFilmGuideАй бұрын
Thanks! It's called Lightcut. I think it's technically not a DJI app but it's been created for them or adapted for DJI. CapCut is also very good.

I was at a Hindu Festival last night, where one of the people attending had a Neo and it looked tiny. My Mavic Pro mk1 looked tiny when it came out. And when my Dji Mini mk1 came out it made the Mavic Pro look massive. However there is one thing about the Neo, that I don't like which is that it screams very, very, very loudly. You may not see the Neo but you most definitely know its around. The drone could even be heard above the energetic drumming of the band. Even so, there are some excellent filming and composition tips to experiment with and create cinematic masterpieces.😀
@DroneFilmGuideАй бұрын
Very valid point. We are yet to do our proper review of this drone but one downside for me is the noise. The last thing you want is someone nagging you about using a drone when you are in the middle of things so I love how quiet the Mini drones are (3 and 4 in particular) and the new Air 3. Ten metres away and you would hardly know they are there. The Neo definitely draws attention.

@jonnylakewood7767Ай бұрын
Stewart, super ideas. I can't wait to add the Neo to my DJI list. *You've inspired me to do some editing, construct some shorts -and just get back in he game! Your footage looks pretty good. How were you able to dial back the sharpness while flying autonomously? Others have complained sharpness is too heavy and not adjustable without using an actual remote.
@DroneFilmGuideАй бұрын
Appreciate the comment! There is no sharpness adjustment in this video because all the footage is auto and the mobile app is being used. In the previous video we used the controller to lock a manual exposure and WB so to be honest, this results in much better image quality (in addition to the -2 sharpness). But in this video we wanted to show what beginners can achieve if they focus more on how to craft good shots rather than settings. That being said, I will be very disappointed if DJI don't roll out manual exposure/WB and sharpness controls to the mobile app, in addition to a less aggressive 'Normal' colour profile. These things are holding back an otherwise good camera - seemingly in the name of keeping things simple for beginners.
@jonnylakewood7767Ай бұрын
@@DroneFilmGuide Thanks for the response. I agree, I hope when the Neo comes back into stock, they are upgraded.

great drone, but I have to complain about the "direction track" that oscillates too much to the right and left and therefore risks crashing into obstacles easily. The "follow" instead is perfect, even in the woods.

Hmm.. not too bad. In seeing other video samples from this drone, I have not been impressed. I still intend to connect to my Goggles 3 and drop the sharpness. However, this looks pretty good by itself! Question: Do you know, if I drop the sharpness using the goggles 3, will the drone save that setting the next time I use it in an automated flight mode?

Helooo Stewart & Alina. I am biding my time, and enjoying your Neo videos, since DJI has deemed US Customers must wait until next month. I understand that they are trying (unsuccessfully) to avoid out of stock events. Ahh well. Hey, I know your photography background lends itself to cinematic drone Mastery, less so than FPV Piloting, but if I might suggest, a break out to full manual flying would be very appealing to your subscribers 😮. Not saying you need to drop a video of the struggle to attain Mastery of Neo/Avata 2, but if you were to get decent control of the aircraft on your own time, saving some moments of the process, it could make for some appealing videos. Just a thought.

This would be a no-brainer if you could switch to a flatter color profile, from the App. As of now, it's a controller only feature.

How come your footage from the Neo looks so good ? Im totally confused and want to buy one but other folks footage looks dreadful
@DroneFilmGuideАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment. We've been careful to show lots of unedited, raw Neo footage in this video so as not to mislead anyone. That footage looks decent even though it's on full auto exposure and there's a lot of flicker as a consequence. Really, shots like this should have a locked, manual exposure as you can see in our previous video. If using default auto camera settings, you'll get the best results in flat light (not direct sunlight), with the sun behind the camera. And that's exactly what we have in most of these shots. Then, as you can see, we've heavily graded shots for a 'look' but ultimately, the essence of getting good shots is understanding the limitations of the camera. I guess the problem is this requires an inordinate amount of expertise given it's a drone aimed at beginners. It's a bit of a problem with 'cheap' cameras. The worse the camera is, the better you have to be to get good results.

My only concern with the DJI Neo is that I am not seeing any shots where it is tracking from the front. Now I understand about hitting trees etc but that limits the shot to a tripod type of shot. It's a great flying camera if you always want to show your back side (tracking) but nothing showing your front (tracking). I also have not seen how it tracks in crowds or even with a few extra people. Most of these videos like yours only show a single person. However, I do appreciate your video and the editing information. Thank you.
