Hello. I just got an Action 4 after much research. I've had a Gopro 9 and an Insta 360, but just couldn't get the quality I wanted for recording rides on my mountain bike. I took the Action 4 out for its maiden shoot using a chest mount and all of your settings--no filters yet, but I'll probably eventually get some. The footage was nothing short of beautiful. I got right out of the box what in the past I had been spending hours in post failing to achieve. A tweak here and there needed in places, but really I love this camera. Thanks for getting me started on setting it up. I'm looking forward to seeing your future work with this camera.

How does your ulanzi tripod fair against harsher winds? How do you stop it from falling when its windy but you want to travel ir hike light. Do you have a hack to secure the tripod stand or you just use a more expensive heavier one?

Too vid as always buddy. How steady do you find the tripod for stability on rough ground? Is there enough clearance with the base?

Thank you. Yes I find the tripod to be pretty stable, especially with how wide I can spread the legs on it. The base can also be adjusted to have less of a spread depending on the need. For a less than $30 tripod that also doubles as a selfie stick I’ve been quite happy with it.

My test, experience: this information is hardly mentioned on KZbin. Set your OSMO Action4 to at least 1/160sec or better 1/200sec in Rock Steady mode (digital stabilizer). The stabilizer is overwhelmed with shorter exposure times and you get unusable, blurry images. So you can forget about the often recommended 25/30 images with a 50/60sec exposure time with ND filter "Motion Blur" (180 degree rule) for smooth images. You almost always need digital stabilization switched on with an action cam.

I’m thinking of getting an action camera and torn between the Gopro hero 10 and the Osmo Action 3. I’m a beginner that wants a easy camera and won’t have to do any editing . Which camera do you recommend that would be a good choice?

Great question. Between the Hero 10 and the Action 3, I like the Hero 10 better. However, if you are considering the Action 4 I do like the Action 4 a lot more than the Action 3. It has some nice improvements and better image quality.

My big complain about Dji action 4 it's because I am underexposed most often ; In theory the EV should compensate to capture more light on the subject at +, but it's overcast, it goes to minus and even lower.

Hello mate say I wanted to upload my landscape footage to Tiktok or KZbin Shorts what settings would you suggest so I can use landscape footage to portrait without losing any quality when uploading it / stretching it to screen. Id prefer to just record in landscape and use that footage as portrait as well rather than switching all the time

Well if you crop a portrait secti9n from landscape, itll be a bug loss of resolution. You can do 2 things to mitigate. Record landscape (16:9) for a proper landscape but record in 4k so you have maximum resoluti9n. You can record in 4k 4:3 which will give you more leeway for cropping portrait section but wont be as wide as a landscape in 16:9. So in this mode, youll need to crop for both landscape and portrait. Id choose option 1 (4k 16:9) if captur8ng in landscape is of primary importance. On smartphones, the cropped clip won't be that bad. Of course, youll have to ask yourself what platform you want to target - uoutube, YT sports of tiktok ot ig reels. And then make the resolution choices.

I tried uwing ND filters on my Hero 10 and the slower shutter speed messed with the vibration reduction of fhe camera. Does this not happen with the Acrion 4?

I used this and it really looks great, and then I applied original dji lut from the official dji site and prepare my video on davinci resolve (4k 25fps)H265 and upload to youtube. The problem is that the file on youtube doesn't look as clear and as rich coloured as the file on my disk, I can see like 10-15% difference. Should I set some bitrate limits or what should I do ? I mean your files look a lot more saturated and I do not know if this is because you do it manually or it's just a youtube conversion loss for me.

Great question. So the file I uploaded to KZbin was exported as h.264 and had a bitrate of 56Mbps. I did add some saturation to the level of my liking. It is worth noting that KZbin will apply some compression to your video, so even this file here looks better on my computer than it does on KZbin.

@@GreatDayForAHike Okay thanks for the fast response. So as far as I checked official yt limits, for 4k 25 fps they recommend max 45 Mbps and for 60 fps max 68Mbps. Of course we also have HDR settings that are max 56 for 25 fps and max 85 Mbps for 60 fps but I assume that we cannot upload in hdr with this camera. Maybe putting an upper limit on the bitrate when exporting to 45 Mbps will force youtube not to compress this agresive ?

It depends on several different factors, including lighting and what you are filming. Also, smartphones are not meant to be action cameras. In other words, the Action 4 can do things and go places a smartphone cannot. However, if you’re just vlogging, a smartphone may be all you need. Then again the Action 4 costs less than $300 and most smartphones with a decent 4K internal camera cost at least twice that, so the cost is also a consideration.

Hi, may i know if your Action4 unit have hot pixel issue during long exposure photo or time lapse shot? I tested 3 units and all have some form of hot pixel at above 10 sec exposure, even at ISO100. Keen to know if other owners have this issue too. Thanks.

Yes, this camera does handle Auto WB pretty well. I simply like setting it static so I for sure have the same WB for all scenes I film in a particular location or time of day.

Absolutely. The mic is mainly if you want great audio while filming. Anytime I’m filming where I don’t need the audio I don’t use the mic.
