DJI has better sound and i like the stock colors a bit better. I think its slightly cooler and less warm. Looks more “natural” to me. Sound is less muffled. Other than that.. very similar. I think the magnetic mount of the DJI is a big selling point. DJI should have a slight advantage in low light due to its slightly larger sensor and i believe that why its stabilization is slightly better in low light.

Am I the only only too immersed in the trails and not paying much attention to the comparison lol. These trails are sick! I think DJI has more saturation while GoPro seems less saturated but brighter. After color grading they are both doing really good.

same here.... hahaha! I only noticed later on that the it's more brighter when is't on GoPro to which I prefer... :)
@autiebleSam2 ай бұрын
While the DJI has more natural color, the GoPro does seem to make the color contrast pop, making it easier to perceive the natural landscape, especially at higher speeds. The warmer tones are a particular strong point for this kind of filming as it draws attention away from the natural foliage off the trail and more towards the trail itself. I do wonder if you're working with two brand new cameras. There's a muffled quality to the GoPro even with the automatic wind reduction off that makes me wonder if the microphone may be gunked. That said, it does sound like the DJI has some kind of built-in windscreen. Given the speeds you travel, I don't know that the difference in image clarity is overly meaningful between the two. I can say for sure that neither are comparable to the Insta360 you usually use in terms of image quality.

But slap the max lense on the 12 and... the field of view is kindof unbeatable? Or does the Osmo have a wider setting?
@mangoshake4 ай бұрын
Great, super direct comparison. With that being said I'm preferring the DJI overall. The GoPro's Hyperview looks like it was designed to compete with Insta360's fisheye. There's just slightly more distortion on the GoPro than the DJI. I like the flatter colors and the less muffled sound on the DJI as well. Stabilization is about the same, until it gets dark, then the DJI edges out the GoPro once again. Overall, I think GoPro didn’t notice DJI as a fast-growing rival with an extremely competent lens and related software. They were too preoccupied with trying to get Insta360 converts back that DJI got them right under their nose with that 155° FOV and massive light sensor.
@mangoshake4 ай бұрын
Unrelated though, but my personal favorite as a consumer would still be the GoPro Hero 9 Black with the MAX lens 1.0 mod. Perfect amount of stabilization so it looks natural, GoPro color wasn't overboard with the HDR yet, and super minimal distortion compared to today's cameras. The DJI's FOV is excellent, but it has a tendency to elongate people in front. Lanky riders like Dale Stone look like Slenderman on the DJI and it throws me off.

A really useful feature of the GoPro 12 is that you do not need to mount it vertically, you can get a vertical video even if the GoPro is horizontal. The video makes it look like the lack of ease of vertical mount could be a drawback but actually it's the other way round. That's a really big plus I find, just go into the GoPro settings on your phone to switch horizontal to vertical between 2 runs. I also like the default video / color on the GoPro better but low light for sure DJI wins. Also the difference in details without post processing is in favor of GoPro significantly I find as most people do not post process their video.
@quithollerin7276Ай бұрын
Does the DJI have a nice tidy phone app for on the fly editing? Otherwise, I'm dubious to switch out of what already works. I'm shining it on with my Hero 7 at the moment, and it's past its prime. Were it not for helmet mount, the quality would be much more chattery. So stabilization with a little more wide angle is all I'm looking for. I have scant need of much more...
@johntate52844 ай бұрын
You really have the DJI dialed in quite nicely, so it's hard to find any fault with it. To me (although may be KZbin related), the DJI appears to be the sharper one when the video plays at the FPS you were shooting, but this also may be related to the differences in color balance. Both appear to quite capable of returning very good footage though. Always great to ride along from your perspective and thanks for a great comparison and your observations:)

I have the DJI A4 and from what I see here I guess I made the right choice. Never owned a GoPro but friends tell me my footage is better, more lively just on basic settings. On your point about the longer mounting part on the DJI I have to point out that when you purchase the adventure combo there's a normal and a shorter mount. The short one is just a tiny bit longer than the GoPro.

To me, before your own observations: the Osmo looked sharper (maybe less motion blur?), better stabilisation in low light, and less "squished" (maybe lower FOV?) - also sound was better, and maybe more noise in low light too? Hi, how are you? Can you give me some advice? I bought the DJI Osmo 3 and I can't get good videos with it because of the low light. I had a Go Pro 7 Black before, but it lacked battery and stabilization. So I copied setups from several KZbin channels to the Action 3, but it was bad, but it was good with light. I'm thinking about buying an Osmo Action 4 or a used Go Pro 10? On the Go Pro, I used a setup and it was good, I didn't even change the colors or anything. I know there are a lot of sponsored videos, so I bought the Action 3, but I don't like it. If you could give me some advice, thank you. Is there much difference between the Action 4 and the Action 5? I've never used an action camera, so these questions may be dumb, but my thoughts that I didn't hear discussed: Are the run times comparable? Recharging speed? Number of batteries that come with them? Does the battery case recharge the batteries in the field (like earbuds), or would that be too heavy?
@ddangerousddave4 ай бұрын
From other testers, it sounds like the Action 4 has better battery life, although I didn't mention it because I didn't have a chance to test that myself. Neither brand has a charging case like what you're describing, but DJI makes a 3-battery storage/fast charger case that stores and charges three batteries at once when plugged in, shows you the approximate charge level and has storage for two spare SD cards as well. It's a much better design than the GoPro fast charger. As for recharging speed, I never really considered that to be honest. I always carry enough spare batteries with me to film a whole ride and swap them out early so as not to worry about the battery dying in the middle of a trail.

FYI; You are missing a deadcat placement on the GoPro 12 (the microphone on the side). The GoPro footage has a lot of wind noise as a consequence of this.

Are you sure? The GoPro website only lists microphones on the front and top: gopro.com/en/us/out-of-the-box-experience/hero-12-black
@snokefilmmedia4 ай бұрын
@@ddangerousddave 100% sure. The manual cryptically calls it a "drain microphone" (12 in the schematic you linked), but I guarantee that it's a separate mic. If you enable raw audio with the lowest amount of processing, you will get an audio file with four channels, out of which three will have an audio signal. You can use this to test my claim :) This mic is especially sensitive to wind noise, so putting a deadcat on it really helps the overall audio. Note that both openings must be covered.

Stock color for stock color I think the DJI has a slight advantage. Stabilization is good on both but I feel the Gopro has a slightly smoother quality to it. Sharpness overall the Gopro has a better image, the foliage really shows this. All that being said I have the DJI on my list of next cameras to buy for a couple reasons not really considered in this vid. First I am tired of Gopro releasing buggy updated models with marginal improvements. Second There is not enough image quality or stabilization difference to scare me off. Last but not least the magnetic mount is a huge QOL improvement, set the angle once and not have to fidget with it again. I have been using the X3 from Insta with a magnetic mount and it has been great, the issue is in 4k single lens it doesn't have any stabilization and in 360 mode the image becomes soft in a bad way to my eyes.
@theterrifictrio55144 ай бұрын
Why do you prefer the mounting system of the Osmo 4 if it requires you to have the small clip before attaching it to a mount? The GoPro has in-built mounts that mean you dont need a seperate clip, so you can move the camera from one mount to another without first moving the seperate clip like the DJI. Please let me know if i have missed something because it seems odd that you prefer the system with more parts and effort to change mounts
@MisterGradie4 ай бұрын
It's useful for positioning because the element not attached to the camera can be left in place permanently, so once you've found the perfect angle you don't lose it. It's also handy if you're moving a single camera between multiple positions as its quicker to detach the camera from the magnetic release than it would be to unscrew the gopro.
