Hi Gene, many thanks for excellent video and documentation resources - much appreciated. Still setting up my S1000/A2. Testing the Control Mode Switch for manual/Atti/GPS attitude works fine - however when I turn off the T14sg to mimic a TX failure I don't see the Control Mode Switch in the Assistant flipping to failsafe. Versions of everything are up to date, tried on Mac and Windows, not keen on testing it in flight.

Ben Clark Are you directly connected to the A2 with your 14SG or going through the Futaba receiver then to the A2?

Thanks Gene: I have the Windows laptop running A2 Assistant connected to the A2 LED port via usb cable. The Futaba is unwired - so communicating direct with the A2 via transmitter.

Great videos. I've watched all three as I work on setting up the S1000 we just acquired. I was wondering if you put your A2 flight controller on top just to leave the space on the front left open for another component? I've noted in the S1000 manual they show the A2 mounted in the lower front location. Any reason for me to go one way or the other?
@Troybuiltmodelstbm10 жыл бұрын
Chris McGinty While our mounting methods seem odd there is a reason for them. Not always but sometimes we get a failed component or need to troubleshoot so we have everything in a place where it's easiest to get to it. This allows us to troubleshoot MUCH quicker than mounting it in a "cleaner" looking position. We also only use velco (unless it's the IMU) for the same reasoning. For someone building their own, double side tape and hidden components are an option but we are function over form oriented!

This is excellent. Can you point me to a good tutorial to set up the controllers with the A2 and Zenmuse? Is one controller bound to the A2 and one bound to a RX(for the zenmuse?) Any advice on this would be much appreciated.
@Troybuiltmodelstbm9 жыл бұрын
Randy Scott Slavin This is the only setup video that we have at the moment. You are correct, one controller gets bound to the A2 while the other one is completely separate and connects to the Zenmuse via a separate Futaba or Hitec receiver depending on what brand you're using. The A2 software makes it simple to bind channels to functions within the A2 and the Zenmuse has preset channels to use for pitch, roll, etc.

Excellent vid and manual. I realize the smart thing to do is to buy a Vision first and practice. However, at $1200 or so, that is a lot of money that could go towards the S1000. Having said that, could someone start with the S1000 giving it plenty of time to learn it and fly it? Another question is, are there insurance policies for it like auto insurance? Liability, comp and collision, etc? Would insuring it under a business be better like a photo business?
@Troybuiltmodelstbm10 жыл бұрын
For practice, we actually stock the original Phantom: www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/DJI-PHANTOMRTF.html This is less than half the price of the Vision but without a camera. I would recommend flying this to get your orientation and it's robust enough to take some accidents! For insurance and things like that, please email president@troybuiltmodels.com. Hi. Your Videos helped me much! Thx a lot for them. But i have one question. We have a S1000 with a Lightbridge and a T14 SG and a 6EX. I want to fly with an Camaraoperator. How can i bind both Transmitter? Must i use a secont reciever for the Gimbal functions? So the T14SG will send directly to the A2 and the 6EX to an second reciever or the T14 over the Lightbridge and the 6EX to an sec. reciever. Perfect would be: The T14 and the 6EX to the A2 ( wireless Trainer function?! ) because i dont want to have a wire. I heard that the Futaba-Fasst Protokoll has no problems so send parallel with the Lightbridge Protokoll. Thx from Germany.
@Troybuiltmodelstbm10 жыл бұрын
MultiMediaCopter I'm not sure I completely understand your question. If you want to use two transmitters then the best thing to do is use one for the copter control and one for the camera control (using a separate receiver). If you wanted to do everything on one transmitter your options will be limited but it's still possible.

Great video, I have learned a lot! One thing I would like to know, the RTH function - Alt Go-Home. You are saying that the copter will descend to the value you set in A2 assistant, are you sure about that? I have heard that it will stay in the alt. it is in (IF above the set value), and not descend before it is above the GPS start point.
@Troybuiltmodelstbm10 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I've only personally tested it "under" the value and observed it gain altitude before "going home". I'll get with Gene on these and see if we need to make an annotation on the video, thank you! -Tone

Flying is done with one person and gimbal control is done with another. You could however rig it to control certain things on the gimbal with one transmitter but only WITHOUT lightbridge. If you use lightbridge you can only use 8ch per radio!

it looks like the IMU & GPS mount setting is not correct , can you explain how IMU "z" setting could be -6 as its already at ground 0 lever thanks
@Troybuiltmodelstbm10 жыл бұрын
This is because the CG for the Z axis is not on the plate where the IMU mounts, it is under it. The camera and battery weight affect this greatly. It's hard to calculate this number but even with the landing gear up, the Z number can't be 0, it has to be under the plate which is a negative number.

Troy Built Models, Inc. You are always a very comprehensive presenter and you really use to take care all of the points , will it be possible if you can make a small video about calculating the Center of Gravity for DJI S1000 or S800 , believe me even expert hobbyist do not know it correct and normally we leave it in approximation of confusions :) it works but I felt if this is not 100% accurate may be we lose flight progress a little bit. Hi there, do you have any experience flying the S1000 in cold temperatures, as in below the -10 C that is suggested.
@Troybuiltmodelstbm9 жыл бұрын
Darren Susin We personally do not. One problem I do know with the lower temperatures is the batteries just do not perform as good as they can.
@nsvr69 жыл бұрын
Darren Susin Agree with the battery remark. One of the things about cold air, the colder it is, the better your performance will be. You would be able to carry more weight than in the hot summer air just like flying regular airplane or commercial jets. I doubt anyone has run performance numbers to determine how much more weight you can carry in cold air.

Hi Gene, Looking at your recommendation for the IMU position, X = -10, is this to compensate for the IMU being at the Rear of the centre frame...The DJI manual does not mention this fact. My IMU is in it recommended position. Thanks
@Troybuiltmodelstbm9 жыл бұрын
Paul Gilmour If you have your IMU in the normal position for the S1000+, you will want X to show -10cm. That is the normal location. If you look at the center of the copter, the IMU on the X axis is 10cm below 0 which makes it -10cm. The manual shouldn't state this since you can put it on any airframe or in any spot you want. The A2 assistant shows you in the picture how you should come to a positive or negative number per axis.
@PaulGilmourTheVerticalView9 жыл бұрын
Yeah the manual doesn't state the CofG difference. When I saw this mentioned in your Video I checked again, then measured the approx dist ~10...went with it. Thnx.

Troy Built Models, Inc. Thanks Paul. Do we measure from the center of the IMU or the nearest edge of it to the CG point?

One other question I have, This will be my first flight with the S1000+, my thoughts are that I should do the maiden flight without the GH4 gimbal??? any thoughts on that. Thanks again
@Troybuiltmodelstbm9 жыл бұрын
Paul Gilmour If this is your maiden flight, it may be wise to leave the gimbal off in case you are worries about a crash. Here are a few things to remember: make sure if you don't have the gimbal or camera weight, you place your battery towards the center of the aircraft to have the correct CG. There will be no counterweight for the battery without the gimbal so that's why it needs to move center. Take off and fly over grass, this will minimize damage in the event of a crash. Take off at full throttle only, do not fly it off the ground like a phantom, go full throttle then once it goes up, go back down to half. Take off in attitude mode so satellites do not matter even though you should only take off with full GPS lock either way. Other than that follow our checklist, there are many things in there that should be checked.
@nsvr69 жыл бұрын
Paul Gilmour Paul, how did it go? I put a counterweight on mine weighing 4.1 pounds and it flew great but I was very hesitant to push the throttle up to 100% that very first time. Flew over grass with semi-high trees on 3 sides to catch it if it took off. Also had a nylon tether on it to help retrieve from said trees if it got stuck. Maybe a bit too much but no problems the 1st 4 flights. Battery got a little low.
@PaulGilmourTheVerticalView9 жыл бұрын
hi, it went well. I used 3 x 2200mAh old LIPO's. I have flown now 5 times without gimbal....time to put the Z15 GH4 on and test... its not good not knowing how much life is in the LIPO....kind of like flying with the Phantom V1 so it will be good to get the iOSD telemetry on my monitor.
