It has its place in a quadcopter arsenal for sure. It looks like a toy, is less noisey than a Mavic Air, and less intimidating than a Mavic Pro. It really is more fun to fly than its bigger brothers. This is still the quad to keep with you on the daily. I have some decent footage on my channel.

What do you guys think is better I have a phantom 3 and I kinda want a spark because they seem a lot smaller than the phantom and they seem a lot more agile so you can fly it in places that a phantom can’t

Thanks nice video. Unfortunately saw it after my vacation. I have Phantom 3 standard and while it is getting really great footage, it is way big for vacation shoots. Also, sometimes I would like to film indoor. So is the DJi Spark still the best (for devices of up to 500USD) and what are cheaper but still good alternatives. Thanks
@DigitalNinja36 жыл бұрын
Darko Sola The Spark is hands down the best to take on vacation. It has 1920x1080p image quality at 30fps and perfect for KZbin. Pair it with your phone footage and it’s great. 4K is awesome but a pain to deal with as far as editing and storage if you don’t already know. I’ve recently travelled with my Mirrorless Camera and a Mavic Pro and it just was all a bit cumbersome. I have great footage of Maui but I wished I had brought the Spark. You definitely need the controller though. This isn’t a filmmakers camera per se, it’s just easier to carry, less of a noticeable device, and more fun. People really just think it’s a toy. My personal opinion is The Mavic Air/ Mavic Pro are the quads you take camping, kayaking, or climbing mountains, or for mini-movies. The Phantoms for Indy filmmaking, surveying, real estate, etc. The inspires for Commercial/Big budget productions....but the Spark is the one that will always be in your car/backpack. It just pairs so well with smartphone footage. It is built tough too. I have some footage on my channel that you can check out. Hope this helps.

I had my first spark for a couple years and i ended up breaking an arm after it clipped the top of a tree trying to return home and it spun out of control into a fence post full speed. I glued it and continued to fly it till i hit something that messed up the camera. Forgot to mention the first crash that made me kinda forget about being careful with it was when it spit the battery out flying full speed over concrete. It crashed and bent three of the motor shafts and all the props. It ruined that battery. I replaced three motors and continued to fly it. It still works but the camera gimbal is screwballed. Lol it really is a tough drone for what its been through but I really wish it wouldn't have ejected the battery in flight. Im not sure if it wasnt clicked on good enough or what but other people have had it happen. I haven't used it in a while because two of my three batteries shot craps.. and you cant shoot videos with the gimbal all crooked so I just ordered a whole new spark. Cant wait to have a nice fresh new one again. Hopefully i can keep this one in good shape.

I got the spark, not the combo (will be getting the controller) but I have two batteries and I really don't like how the only way to charge it is by putting the battery in the drone and then plugging it in. My first drone.. Happily it arrived the day before I flew to Hawaii. Yes, I ordered the fly more package, hardshell carrying case, total of 4 batteries with charging station, and controller and the landing pad. WOO-HOO! !! Unfortunately (everyone get ready to laugh...I did) I was on the most beautiful island of Kauai'i. .. .and smallest which means there was no where to be found the connection cable from controller and phone. Nope. No where. I looked. 793 mi in 10 days...not one one the island. I was not about to launch my new 'baby' only to have it try to find home somewhere downtown L.A....still smiling. I still have my drone and enjoyed very much looking at it every day and especially felt very proud carrying it in its own case through the airports. Now (everyone get ready to cry...I have not yet but Might.) My trip was Nov 2017. It is now May 2018. I still have not had it out of its case...mostly because the FLIPPIN INSTRUCTIONS ARE TOO DAMN SMALL TO READ EVEN WITH READING GLASSES AND MAGNIFYING GLASS...But also, just too much life going on. BTW, yes I got the connection cable and no It is not for sale lol. As a Spark owner for a year (and now on my 2nd .. a factory refurbished model) there are a couple caveats. Always be SURE that you have GOOD GPS reception 12 birds or more. I flew mine over a stream deep in a valley, which reduced the quality of GPS signal. This wouldn't normally be a BIG problem, but to make very Cinematic video, I had mine in Tripod mode, which gives it a fwd. speed with full fwd pitch of about 2.5mph. Mine was flying 2.5 mph in Tripod mode, then I lost adequate GPS signal, and in about 2 seconds, it switched itself to ATTI mode (dropped out of Tripod), and with my pitch stick pushed full fwd., it shot forward at 21 mph, right into the side of a cliff, damaging the gimbal. DJI didn't find this a problem on there part, and wanted to charge me $400 to REPLACE the entire Spark, which only had a bad gimbal (and even then, it would only have the remainder of its original warranty). Therefore I opted to get a factory refurbished unit for $279, which came with a full 1 yr. warranty. Since I already had the RC, extra batteries and charger (and other accessories) from the Fly more package, this was the best I could do. I also have a P3A, which is my main camera bird, but when I want to throw something on the back of my bike, the Spark is a very nice small package to transport. There would probably be no market for it had they not lowered the price, and if asked which bird to buy, I'd probably recommend the Mavic Air over the Spark .. its like 5 times the quad that the Spark is. All that said, there is still room for a Spark in my fleet.
@Honeypot-x9s6 жыл бұрын
Bill Somrak the spark is too fragile with its on board systems. 1 system goes down and entire drone is all wonky. No redundancy layers or anything to keep the bird happy, just flips to atti Many times I have flown without GPS signal on my Mavic Pro, opti mode works solidly up to 30 feet from the ground (or water) and in the event my drone cannot get a solid GPS lock because rocks or dense clouds I set home point to my iPhone in the app, so my drone is happy and I just fly within 30 feet of the ground/water surface and I use “Cinematic Mode” which is like Tripod mode but faster and motion is more like the drone is floating in fluid so very smooth. I do have the mavic air and a spark and honestly I barely fly them as much as I do my Mavic Pro. I feel like the mavic Pro is more finished product and and the spark was the result of DJi rushing stuff. And mavic Air is somewhere inbetween finished product and feeling rushed.
@billsomrak6 жыл бұрын
Biggest problem with the Spark is that if you are flying in Tripod mode, which requires almost full fwd. pitch to have it move at about 2.5 mph, if it suddenly goes into ATTI mode, the stick position behaves as though you are in Sport mode. This problem could be eliminated with proper FW programming, so that if, while in Tripod mode, if it drops to ATTI, the reaction to the stick remains the SAME. With this consistency, a lot of problems/crashes (like mine) would not have occurred. Because of its lower price, I don't think its possible to have the system redundancy that more expensive craft like the Mavic Pro and Phantom 4 Pro have. You just have to be VERY CAREFUL when using the Spark, realizing its shortcomings.
@Honeypot-x9s6 жыл бұрын
Bill Somrak fort of all, common mistake people make (even I did it years ago when I started out) is that in fail-safe Atti mode, there is no reference.. whatever was measuring 4.5MPH ground speed (or relative ground speed) is no longer capable of measuring that’s why it is commonly referred to as manual mode. And not uncommon to have drones rocket well above advertised max speed in atti mode if GPS isn’t being fully utilized (such as fail safe atti) infact I gotten my inspire to upwards of 99MPH in fail safe atti mode rocketing back to me when a storm was approaching and winds helped out a bit (20mph winds). Question of is it software of hardware.. bit of both... I don’t claim to be lord haxor or anything but I have edited my firmware files on my spark before so I made Atti mode more relaxed (wider title angles, longer period between exception changes, etc etc and while it does sort of help.. some of it hardware limitations of how dji built it. The spark’s system is really basic for how advanced it is. For example say Vision system fails... the spark will trigger fail-safe atti mode. ..why? I don’t really know but what indonknownis it is constantly using the down firing camera and it’s likely linked to IMU to correct drifting. Same issue with the compass, compass error usually results in the spark taking down entire intelligent positioning system.. GPS is lost, IMU isn’t happy and VPS is a coin toss if it will work. Take the GPS offline and spark is in full atti mode at that point and everything below the GPS fails, so it’s full on manual flight. Mavic Pro for example let’s say the GPS failed mid flight.. every other system on board is now working over time to position lock my drone.. the dual down firing cameras and ultra sonic sensors are attempting to pattern lock and sense a surface.. even if can’t use ultra sonic sensors to sense a surface it can still use down firing cameras even if one of them goes offline it switch to the other and just use simple pattern matching technique to reference itself in position.... entire time it rebooting its GPS module.. and during all that you can click the land button and it will just bring the drone safely down and softly land it where ever it maybe.. If compass fails on mavic pronit just switches to the other compass which located on other end of the drone shielded away. Could DJI have added dual compass to spark... absolutely it’s cheap and tiny tiny parts.. they could have even don’t a second IMU stack as well, but just not isolate it off main board and add large attenuation to it so internal vibrations don’t upset it too much.. and defiantly could added a second camera even right next to main one Incase dirt flies on the sensor of one of them or moisture or something.. plus it could use dual camera for basic depth sensing.. part cost to all off this in China where they are located and source from would probably be less than $2 per drone assuming wholesale pricing in bulk and matching existing parts..
@billsomrak6 жыл бұрын
Could DJI have added all those things you suggested? Probably (very small package to deal with), but I think they were most interested in getting out a CHEAP selfie drone to compete with the Yuneec Breeze (and other selfie drones). At this point, I DO NOT expect that DJI will extend much effort on improving the Spark with FW updates which could make it better. They are too busy with higher end, more expensive products, where they make more money. The most important thing to DJI is their own "Bottom Line" (how much they make), not the satisfaction of the customers. When I sent my Spark back for REPAIR of the gimbal (which was the only part damaged), they WOULD NOT REPAIR it. They would ONLY REPLACE it, at a cost HIGHER than what the Spark is currently selling for. This tells me that they are NOT interested in Spark REPAIRS .. that would not be "Cost Efficient". They will simple say: "Pilot Error ... Very Sorry ... We can send you a new/rebuilt Spark for $400". I've seen the complete Spark gimbal/camera assembly (original DJI part) on eBay for $130 ... their cost is probably FAR LESS. They COULD have repaired my Spark for $100, but WOULD NOT. So, I had to buy a "Factory Refurbished" unit, and since the DJI Online Store didn't have any in stock, I had to buy the replacement from DroneNerds (Florida), an official DJI outlet. DJI has ALWAYS been inconsistent with their customer support, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I'm hopeful that, at some point, manufacturers like Autel, Yuneec and/or Parrot will eventually start making products which can compete with DJI on an equal footing, to give DJI more competition. Only when DJI feels a little pressure will they be likely to change policies and put their Customers FIRST, instead of their profits. BTW, before I retired, I had a long background in Electronic manufacturing, production, QC, Repair, Programming, etc., so I do agree with much of what you stated and lament much of what DJI has done and still currently does.
@Honeypot-x9s6 жыл бұрын
Bill Somrak I know and it is counter intuitive since a lot of people I spoke with are interested in the spark.. they should treat the spark as a flagship product and everyone with a spark issue as such. Infact I know a girl who wants a spark and found an amazing dji refurb deal on fly more bundle for $350 and decided to the risk was too high for the cost of unfinished product.. long story short she decided on waiting till they are very cheap or until mavic air drops to $500 then get that. If dji doesn’t want to actually fix the root issues here they need to offer the drone much cheaper.. I think $350 new for fly more combo is perfect if DJI is cant fix the hardware and software, atleast compel people in another way. Atleast $350 new means around $200 refurbished and either price is perfect and impossibly competitive at the same time...

You do a pretty good job of hiding the fact that English a second language for you. There’s only a very slight, subtle hint of an accent when you speak. The dead giveaways would be when you talk about price in terms of dollars, but then reference distance in terms of kilometers. It also didn’t help when you said “provement” instead of “improvement”. No native English speaker would ever say that, even accidentally.

I personally returned the spark with the controller and an extra battery that came out to be about $600 In favor of the yuneec breeze that was only $190 with a controller and an extra battery including tax I felt yuneec Breeze while I did not have long range, and a mechanical stabilization. The yuneec breeze had consistently better video and pictures for a hell of a lot cheaper.. Also the yuneec breeze was faster, easier to use, and went father when just using your phone... You don't have the controller for the DJI spark it's pretty much not fun and useless. Yuneec Breeze is also better indoors. THE BREEZE IS QUIETER, AND BLOWS LESS WIND.. MAN THE MAVIC AIR AND SPARK ARE SO LOUD AND CRAZY ANNOYING FREQUENCY.. I used my yuneec Breeze for about 5 months now waiting to save my money up for the MAVIC PRO, or MAVIC AIR... THE SPARK WOULD JUST MAKE YOU WANT TO SAVE YOUR MONEY AND SAVE UP FOR SOMETHING BETTER!!! And I'm happy to say I ended up picking up A USED MAVIC PRO FLY MORE PACK, and it came with everything including goggles probably a $1,300 value for a grand total of $730!! Yep I picked the MAVIC PRO over the MAVIC AIR.. I watched hundreds of videos.. the mavic pro was just more consistent, more reliable, the OCUSYNC ( Rock Solid connection with 1080p fpv, was so much better ), Wireless goggles, , better controller, better mechanical stabilization, IN MY GOODNESS SO MUCH QUIETER WITH THE PLATINUM PROPELLERS THAT CAME WITH IT!! ALMOST TWICE AS QUIET AS THE SPARK, OR MAVIC AIR!!!! Yes I'm giving up some things that's better on the MAVIC AIR like portability, gesture features, slightly better camera , but the MAVIC AIR connection of enhanced Wi-Fi ALL OVER THE INTERNET IS JUST BEEN SO INCONSISTENT SOMETIMES ONLY GETTING A THOUSAND FEET WITH A BAD CONNECTION!! I will never regret getting the YUNEEC BREEZE THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A USE FOR IT WITH MY GRANDSON, USING IT INDOORS ETC... IT'S SO EASY AND FUN TO USE.. ;)

muzikmon2267 I heard that the DJI mavic pro 2 will come out before the end of the year. Wait for that and then the original mavic will drop in price

deathraydave Nope I couldn't wait LOL I found a guy selling a mavic pro delivered to my door for about 730 he only used it 5 times, never crashed it never any damage only two months old with the fly more pack. Two different types of backpacks, 64GB SD card 16GB SD card range extenders, controller obviously, goggles, car charger, multi charger, I mean everything you can imagine I think the package now brand new would cost about 12 or 1300 It's a no-brainer for me when the mavic Pro 2 comes out if it's worth it I could sell this and get my money back easily.. But these drones are now becoming like cell phones I understand that market because I'm a certified computer network engineer I have my own business selling and fixing phones and computers. Every time they come out with a new Galaxy phone let's say yes it's definitely better but it's usually not worth it unless you upgrade three or four years.. I have the Galaxy S7 Edge even though I fix the newer phones 4 Apple and Android. Comparing my Galaxy S7 Edge to the Galaxy S9 there is a difference but in my opinion it's not worth spending $1,000 right now.. They will be upgrades with the mavic pro like an upgraded camera, sensors on the back maybe the sides ( in the censors don't always work with the mavic air anuways), maybe an LED colorful screen on the remote, two or three minutes more flight time, a couple of more modes, couple miles an hour faster, I MEAN THAT'S REALLY ALL YOU CAN DO. but it's not going to be a major difference to make you want to go run out and spend 500 more dollars. SAFE FLYING.

Mavic air is defiantly like a spark 2 not very much like a Mavic Pro alternative. I prefer my Mavic Pro over my mavic Air. Feels like a more finished product

You are not supposed to be flying over anyone. Any of these dones could fall out of the sky and hurt someone.

So you got one to work? I tried buying a Spark but it was a piece of junk and never worked! I sent it back because the Wi-Fi wouldn't work and I couldn't connect to it and it got quite hot and the battery ran down in just a few minutes just sitting on the table while it made a smell of burning plastic! DJI sure is a horrible company, their Android app is so bad it won't even run on my Galaxy Note 8 and I contacted their tech support which wasn't any help at all so it went back.

I own a DJI Spark, and find it terrible to use unless there is almost no wind. It drifts in the slightest wind. Image quality is great, but it just can't handle any sort of wind or breeze.

Hi Gavin. Yes, I am sure of what I am experiencing. If I just left it to hover with a slight breeze it would slowly be taken away with the wind. I bought a Spark after having a Phantom 4 (the weight of the Spark puts it under most Canadian drone regulations). After 10-12 flights, I can't really see using it any longer. It behaves more like a kite on a string, aways pulled by the wind.

It has GPS stabilization so it shouldnt move in light winds. I have shot smooth video at over 20kph winds and flown it in much stronger
@NH-bz9jv6 жыл бұрын
You probably have a faulty spark then because mine can easily manage in winds of up to 20 mph.

@@barrylyon6074 Yeah, and if he's flying it in ATTI mode, well, no GPS stabilization.

If you shop around you can find them for $349 with controller, that was good enough to get me to finally upgrade from my Phantom 1
